Imagine you are 18 years old and the top recruit in the nation. You have the choice to go to any school in the country (except VT because otherwise we'd all choose to Hokies).
Where do you go? Why?
Post for football and basketball, they don't have to be the same schools. Don't berate people for going to rival schools.
My choices:
For football I would go to Georgia. Warm weather, girls in sundresses, premier conference, team with something to prove. Obviously I'm a QB and they've done pretty well with those recently.
For basketball I would go to UNC. My parents went there and I grew up a UNC fan. Playing in front of 22,000 fans in the Dean Dome against Duke with Michael Jordan's jersey hanging from the rafters.

for football reasons id say texas tech... im white i played wr im not tall 5'8 ive got good hands and run good routes decent speed. id see this as my best chance to play and have a shot at the nfl. (you know since you said i cant go to VT and be the next danny coale) and i like cliff kingsbury and the way they play at TT.
for non football reasons i would say USC though. i mean really whats better than southern california??
Football, my top 3 would be:
Georgia - Great tradition, Athens is an amazing town, gorgeous girls.
Penn State - Great tradition, I like that area of the country.
Texas A&M - It's a Texas version of VT...
Basketball:
UNC - Easy classes, great tradition, the Raleigh-Durham area is nice.
I see the similarities between us and ATM, but I just could never like them ever because of what they said about us in 2002. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/scores102/102264/20020921NCAAFTEXA...
I may have just read through it too fast, but I don't see anything insulting/offensive in that article.
I, like many recruits, would weigh options between local school (virginia tech) and some place with great weather. I would definitely take official visits seriously. I personally would probably be that local guy in the end, but I don't know that for sure without being in their shoes.
i'm going to Rachael's or Scarletts... ohh we're talking about football sorry
Duke for Basketball. I respect Coach K and the program that he runs. Plus, Duke has a phenomenal Business school.
Georgia for Football as well. Athens is a cool town that I could live in for 5 years. Playing between the hedges just seems awesome to me. Plus.... Georgia Girls.
University of Texas would come in at a close second. Austin is one of the coolest towns I've been to. Plus, BBQ and Texas Country Music.
It depends. What position do I play and where am I from? Outside of the greatest school on Earth, I'd probably Notre Dame or Oklahoma. Both have bright futures with a decent chance to go pro if you continue to work hard and get better. Notre Dame also doesn't schedule FCS opponents, and you get to play quality teams from around the country (Mich St, USC, Stanford, Purdue /s)
Basketball, I have no idea. Although it would be fun to commit here and play for a proven coach in a hopefully up and coming program like us.
Not gonna lie... I threw up in my mouth a little when I read Notre Dame.
Hawaii. Because... Hawaii.
Why the Rainbow Warriors do not contend for titles every single year absolutely blows my mind.
travelling a minimum of 8 hours to each away game in coach for these big athletes probably outweighs the benefits of being in Hawaii.
Becasue Hawaii's football exposure is terrible, the travel for away games is a pain, and the islands are expensive.
Yeah, but... Hawaii.
For Football, I would go to Oregon or Alabama because Oregon is gonna end FSU unbeaten reign in a few weeks and Bama is elite. For basketball, Id go with Duke or Maryland cause I wont feel satisfied with an UNC education.
I'm a cross country runner, so I don't really know what position I would be good at on a football field. A couple of my running buddies were DBs, so I'll just assume that's what I would be. So now I'm the hypothetical best defensive back in the nation and I can't go to Virginia Tech? This is the worst. I would want another team that relies heavily on defensive backs, so WF, LSU, Mich St. would all be things I would look at. I know a cute girl in Michigan. I guess I'm gonna be a spartan.
Okay. So now I'm the best shooting guard in the nation. I would want to go to UNC or Duke. Both have long traditions of being good at basketball. The ACC is strong basketball conference. I don't like UK. But then I don't like Duke or UNC much either. So Stanford. Gonna go get me an education.
Third curveball. Suddenly I'm the best cross country runner in the nation and I'm 18 again. Gotta be UC Boulder. UC Boulder all day every day. UC Boulder or bust. Unless they don't want me or they treat me like a bunch of jerks on my visit. Then I'm going to Oregon.
WF = Wake Forest? I mean.......
What?
Winston -Salem is the home of Krispy Kreme donuts. Wake Forest should be a no-brainer.
They're just a team that I was able to think of that relies heavily on defensive backs.
Basketball: UCLA, Arizona, or Florida
Football: TCU, Texas A&M, or LSU
i like where your basketball head's at, son.
Football: South Carolina, Georgia, or Texas A&M.
Basketball: Louisville or Florida.
Football: USC. Best location, beautiful people, history of getting people into the NFL.
Basketball: Kentucky. Same reasons except for the location
Football: Oregon, Baylor, or Auburn
Basketball: Duke, Louisville, or VCU
Football = UVA so I could point shave and set their program back a few decades after I write a tell all book describing all the violations I and other team mates committed while I was there. But I wouldn't want to go too far as to get them the death penalty because then the fun of watching them suffer would be gone.
jamies winston is that you??
Hmm, tough call
Football: I always thought that recruits, especially 4* and less would factor in schools who could showcase their talents and project to the next level. Im 5'8", built pretty stout but not very fast. I played undersized guard in HS but I always saw myself as a fullback. Since they dont get much use anymore, I figure I'd have to go somewhere with a run first mentality.
TLDR: Wisconsin, Oregon, or Florida would be my top picks
Basketball: UNC. Gotta love free school and no classes
If you're looking to play fullback somewhere, wouldn't you rather go to Auburn? They make a HUGE use out of their H-back position (basically a fullback). Jay Prosch just left and is now playing for the Texans a good bit (for a rookie FB). They would have plenty to showcase your blocking ability as a FB.
Georgia Tech would be another place for a fullback to go IMO. Or Bama.
If I couldn't get to Hawaii, I'd probably torment myself over South Carolina or LSU.
It would be awesome to be in the locker room and hear Spurrier's and/or Miles' locker room speeches. I bet some of them are show stoppers.
That's when you figure out that Spurrier actually writes Hatin' Ass Spurrier.
Football: Probably either USC or Cal. From stuff I've read, those two schools have some of the highest student satisfaction rates in the country. Plus an abundance of really hot girls, great weather, and nice history (more for USC than Cal I guess).
Basketball: Georgetown. Always loved the DC area, it's only a few hours from where I live, and I always thought G'Town played a pretty sweet brand of basketball. Unfortunately for them, often that brand of basketball gets them bounced out of the first round of the Tourney every year.
Football: Georgia, most definitely.
Basketball: Probably Kentucky. I'm not the biggest fan of John Calipari, but I do like Lexington.
Football: Auburn, Georgia, Oregon
Basketball: Indiana, Villanova, Kansas
LSU, because both my parents went there as well as my grandfather. It's a great football school and the girls there are beautiful.
Football, I would probably go to Notre Dame. My dad loves that school, so I kinda grew up liking ND. Other schools I'd consider would probably be Baylor, USCe, or Tennessee (I know that last one will be unpopular, but I always kinda liked them before I came to Tech).
As for basketball, I'd probably go to some solid mid-major school, such as FGCU, or a lower level big 5 school like USCe, Auburn, FSU, or Klempson. The reason behind these choices is that I think that in basketball, it'd be easier to turn a team around, especially if a top recruit goes there. And with a few other players, could make a team that wasn't good a few years before a force to be reckoned with
football- oregon or penn state
basketball- kentucky
Football- UF, USC, UGA, Ole Miss
Basketball- VCU, UCLA, UF
Football: LSU or South Carolina.
Basketball: Louisville or Wisconsin (Wisonsins arena is amazing)
Really depends on the situation:
If I'm a walk-on type player with literally no chance of playing in the NBA/NFL, I'm going to Stanford for obvious reasons. 4-5 years of free education at one of the best universities in the country is too big of a deal to pass up.
For Basketball: I want to go to a place that's going to maximize whatever my natural talent is. John Calipari is an incredible recruiter but I don't feel like he's really doing that much for these kids to go top 10 in the draft every year...he basically getting guys who would have been top five picks out of high school if the NBA didn't have the 1 year rule. After mentally excluding Kentucky, my choice would be Duke and Coach K. I think Coach K is an arrogant, petulant douchebag but his track record of sending kids to the NBA for two decades is undeniable. Also, I think I'd be attracted to his involvement with the USA basketball team...I'm from Richmond so being 2.5 hours away from home so my family could come to games is a big deal. Also, academics are obviously great and there are UNC girls who intermingle with Duke students anyways (I have a cousin down in Durham, he tells me that most of the Duke kids go to the UNC bars to actually have fun...with the exception of gamedays).
Football: Wisconsin if OL/RB. USC as a WR/TE. Bama for any defensive position and QB...I'd would have a hard time with 'Bama vs. LSU as a DB (since VT is out of the question) but LSU's academics would probably keep me away.
Anywhere except WVU and UVA works for me.
Edit: oops, didn't mean to hit reply
No chance in hell I would go to UVA. I grew up ~1 hour away from the school, everyone I know who doesn't suck hates UVA.
The biggest attraction at Kentucky is that you're going to practice against other guys who will go into the NBA every day. No other team can say that. Their platoons this year are going to send nearly everyone (except Tyler Ulis who will be a great college PG for years) to the next level so every day is a NBA scrimmage.
That's a fair point but you would be sacrificing a lot of actual gametime minutes because of the platoon system.
If I'm an 18 year old top recruit, I don't think I'm caring about whether I get a good education or a great education on my way to the pros. I'm getting out as soon as possible, so I can be paid for my awesomeness.
Football: LSU. I've loved every time I've visited Louisiana. Great parties, great football, rabid fans, great NFL history, I'm going to the bayou.
Basketball: Kentucky. I'm one and done-ing, and Calipari is the best for that. Plus a great chance at winning big along the way.
Football- Virginia Tech
Basketball- Virginia Tech
No school could ever pry me away
Funny...nearly all football schools picked are the same ones ESPN is accused of having a bias toward. Hmmm.......
For football, Clemson, it's the closest thing I can find to VT! For Basketball, UF. Billy Donovan is one of my favorite coaches of any sport.
Football: University of New Mexico. I would buy in to the culture change Bob Davie is selling. Also, the burritos.
Basketball: University of New Mexico. Logistically, this would be the easiest, because I'd already be going there to play football. And the basketball program is actually respectable and The Pit is one the best game day environments I've been in for any sport, second only to Lane. And again, the burritos.
Lottaburger
Giovannis
Green Chile on everything
Good stuff
Football: Probably Washington I've always wanted to live just outside of Seattle, or Denver but that's beside the point, and Peterson is a hell of a coach or Texas I personally think Charlie Strong is by far the best coach in the nation and he runs a clean and morally north program. That being said Austin is the headquarters for flocast sports, therefore flowrestling, which is probably the second most visited site in my history behind TKP.
Basketball: I wrestled from the time I was 4 through high school before absolutely destroying my shoulder. So this sport could literally never exist and I'd be ok with it. But if I have to choose Arizona is my choice beautiful weather, women, and city.
I have always felt loyalty to my home state, if you leave you are a traitor. But if that wasnt a choice, Florida would probably be my choice. The Swamp intrigues me and seems like a cool place to play, their coaching situation is a mess right now but under Spurrier it woulda been cool. Tennessee would be a neat place as well. Duke would probably be my choice for basketball, maybe Indiana. BTW, these arent schools that I pull for or even like.
If I am doing this I am going fully dipped:
Player Bio: Age 18 HT: 6'4 WT: 210 40: 4.81 Preferred Style: Balanced Positions: QB, Shooting Guard GPA: 3.7 Hometown: Lynchburg VA
Average Rankings: 4.7 out of 5
Top Three Football:
1) Tennesse: Close to home, great atmosphere on Gameday, program on the rise with current coach
2) Ohio State: Style of offense will benefit my playing style, NFL pipeline, great atmosphere and legacy, strong development aspect
3) Arizona: Rising program, fast pace offense, less pressure on me than other top schools, offensive minded coach
Basketball:
1) Duke: I mean it is Duke, always with a chance at a ring and a great degree.
2) Kansas: Great coaching, no pressure to be one and done
3) UNC: don't really have to say a lot there.
Given my size, I'm gonna be a slot wideout, a returner, and a gunner. Could go Texas and fill in when they run out of Shipley brothers. Plus Charlie Strong is a good guy, and Austin is fun. Could go to Baylor because I'd fit best in a West Coast offense, and they seem like they're juuuust outside the title picture for each of the last few years. But I think I'd probably go to Carolina, on the one condition that Spurrier is still there.
Wouldn't being just outside the picture be a great reason to go and try to swing things? You're the best recruit in the nation. You can come to a program and make an impact.
That's why they make top three. Should Spurrier retire, or spontaneously combust from all the crazy awesomeness, I'd change my verbal to Baylor in a heartbeat. But as long as they got Spurrier, I'd wanna play in Columbia.
Gridiron: Nevada (Reno, girls), Hawaii (obvious reasons and girls), Texas Tech, LSU, Marshall
Hoops: LSU, Kentucky, Louisville, Nevada, Marshall
I'd have to say though, Marshall would be my most likely choice. I just respect their program and I feel their fanbase has some similarities to ours.
wow, didn't expect to see anyone put Nevada on the list. You from around that area? I'm from about 30 miles east of there
Lol! Nah, I'm from the big VA. But my folks took my sis and I there (Reno) one summer. Nothing fancy but my dad and I drove by Nevada and I observed some future froshies there taking a tour, most of them hot chicks. Also, pretty cool that it's close to Tahoe.
Football - Yale
Basketball - Princeton
Fun facts about the ivy league you can't redshirt, unless it's a medical hardship, they don't officially have scholarships, and you're getting loaded with or without a successful pro career.
FSU because some random will deliver a bag full of cash, great weather/eye candy, and I'll be competing for Nat. Championships for the foreseeable future.
Football: It comes down to Ohio State and LSU. Ohio State has an incredible tradition and LSU has an incredible atmosphere. Both put players in the NFL.
Basketball: Try to explain to me why I wouldn't want to play for the USA olympic head coach in that atmosphere and get a fantastic degree all at once.
Edit: Not sure why I replied. Finals Week- I can't even procrastinate correctly.
Blue Mountain State... umm hello
late to the game...
Football: honestly, VT. I fell in love with VT and Hokie football, which I had never heard of before, the moment I stepped on campus. I would not play for any other team no matter how bad VT was.
Basketball: Arizona. When I lived there I had the opportunity to see the belly of the beast that is UofA Basketball in regards to Boosters and social clubs, and it is GLORIOUS!
We'd all pick VT, but pretend you can't for whatever reason, where would you go?
I would cause a recruiting war between Arizona and Arizona State. No matter which one I'd pick, I'd win.
