Logan Thomas versus Seattle?

So, any thoughts about Logan Thomas potentially starting next week in a massive divisional showdown against the Seahawks? How cool would it be if LT3 beat them to clinch the division for the Cardinals against one of the best defenses (especially secondaries) in the NFL? I just hope he gets a chance over Lindley. VT Football could certainly use the exposure and some good news at the moment.

I doubt it, since they didn't even put him in tonight.

My best guess is Bruce Arians doesn't think he's ready. Putting Lindley in ( 0 TDs and 7 Ints in his career) leads me to infer that. At this point in the season, Logan should have a solid grasp of the playbook, which is why I ignored the "Lindley knows the system" argument.

I would assume Arians thinks LT3 (or 6) needs time to develop and doesn't want to throw him into the fire just yet. Might come down to practice this week though.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

I like your optimism, but the way the Seattle defense has been playing lately, putting LT in would be a disaster. Not that Lindley will be any better, but no need to throw LT to the wolves.

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

My thoughts... if Logan starts, put a lot of money on Seattle. Their defense will be overwhelming for him, and being at Seattle won't help either

It's at Arizona.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Short of an injury I do not see him getting any PT unless by some miracle they are blowing out Seattle late in the 4th and Arinas wants to do a fellow Hokie a Solid and get him some meaningful reps...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

"Exit light..."

3rd and LOGAN!!!

One thing I love about this play is the end. What did he do with the ball? Flip it to the official. Act like you've been there before. Respect.

Doubt they throw the rookie into the fire in the midst of a playoff hunt. If they were out of it and you think that he's the future of the franchise in the next few years (like the Vikings, Raiders, and Jaguars) then maybe, but in this situation you have more to lose than gain unless Lindley plays terribly.

I'm not sure that is the exposure VT football needs right now.

Why? Because he might lose?

Nobody outside of some paranoid Hokies would point to Thomas' failure to perform in the pros as an indictment of Hokie football.

'Hey, look! That guy who QB'ed Virginia Tech last year just got demolished by the Seahawks!'

'You mean like Peyton Manning did in the Super Bowl?'

'Yeah, exactly! Boy Virginia Tech must not know how to coach QBs there!'

'Yeah, like Tennessee!'

Somehow, I don't think the VT connection would be the topic of conversation. Just call it a hunch.

Then why do we care? If our pros don't at least in some part represent our ability to prepare them for that stage, then why do we even discuss it?

I mean, the original post actually said it could be good exposure for VT football. That is what I am responding to.

We discuss it because we don't have any jets to track at the time.

I still don't see the negative.

I don't think recruits or anyone would watch Logan and if he lost say to themselves: "it's because he went to Virginia Tech." In fact, I think it's the exact opposite, I think recruits look to see how many kids make it to the next level because just getting the chance to go up is so ridiculously difficult. What the player does in the NFL and it's relevance back to their school is a distant second to the reputation of the school simply getting players into it.

I think what you are talking about affect scouts more than recruits or fans watching. Scouts can view programs with preconceived notions and disregard good players because of them. That's been noted many times before.

It's not that complicated. My comment was mostly TIC because I don't watch the NFL and I don't care much about our NFL players. But the original post said:

VT Football could certainly use the exposure and some good news at the moment.

Since ESPN Radio spent a segment this morning discussing how raw LT was and how maybe they should bring in a guy cold off the street to start, it's reasonable to deduct that LT isn't ready for this spot now (and some would say, may never be). So, yeah, if the team that has the best record in their conference turns their QB duties over to a rookie who is overwhelmed, it very well may be "not be the type of exposure VT needs right now." This presumes that there is exposure to VT from LT playing, which the original post postulates.

my comment was not that complicated either, and not TIC. I still don't see the negative to the statement in the OP that you highlight.

you're speaking of Radio Hosts. Did they name VT specifically as being responsible for Logan's rawness? If Logan was put into the game and lost who is the more responsible party, VT or Arians? Every scout and pundit in the nation commented on Logan being a project that needed a year or two to mature. It's a known variable. So if he was put into the game in a still raw state and lost then wouldn't that be Arians fault for doing so?

And as I was commenting, Logan in an NFL game, losing or not, is more likely a positive for VT in terms of recruiting than him not being there at all.

Logan=Hokie
Arians=Hokie

Either way it's all our fault :(

I guess Manziel's performance yesterday really put a dent on Texas A&M's reputation then.

VT will hardly be tarnished either way.

To those who were saying Cleveland had nothing to lose by putting Manziel in, I kept saying "Yes they do"...

I agree that it will have zero impact on aTm (as it would have zero impact on VT if it were LT).

He's not going to start, and may not play in the game, I was listening to Mike and Mike on the way to work. They were not saying anything bad about Logan, just that Arians had said that he wasn't ready. Then they said that if you have somebody that has played at this level before (although not very well) and has been with the team for four(?) years, then that is the right move when your other option is a rookie that is not ready.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

Rookie QBs are by and large not going to be very productive and certainly not consistent players. Whenever possible, you want to avoid playing a rookie. Sometimes they can be successful (Luck and Wilson in spurts are good examples), but playing your rookie QB means you could really care less about that particular game and are instead building for the future.

What in the world are you talking about? That is ridiculous. If the rookie is good enough, he will play in the NFL. If he is not good enough, he won't. Right now, Logan Thomas is not good enough to start in the NFL. That is it. That might chafe some people to admit, but that is all it boils down to. At least that was the reason Bruce Arians gave - Logan isn't ready to compete yet. It's funny that some folks can't admit that. It is not shameful that he's not starting, it's just the way it is - he is not good enough to start yet.

Didn't Arizona pick up the incredible John Skelton off waivers this past week? Could've sworn I heard that and was disappointed LT wasn't getting a real shot.

I doubt they'd want to burn his redshirt so late in the season.

Too late for that, he already played in a game, week 10 I think. The game where both Palmer and Stanton got hurt. Threw an awesome 81 yard TD. But was 1 for 8 in the game, and they lost.

Well shit, now they are going to have to release him in 3 years instead of 4.

What's the TE injury situation like for Arizona?

Wait a tick. I thought LT3 was 3rd string there. Wth happened!?

Carson Palmer blew out his ACL.

Drew Stanton sprained his knee.

LT3 is now competing with Ryan Lindley for the start.

I wouldn't be surprised if they used Thomas here and there. I don't think they're against it, Lindley's not exactly good and has 0 touchdowns, at least Thomas has one!

Surprised they don't get a journeyman QB with better chops... I guess knowing the playbook means something, but... shocking they don't trade for a guy whose contract is up this year, will be a free agent. Some of them around, probably can be had for cheap.

Big problem with the QB play has been WR injuries. AZ could have been a nightmare this year. Probably figures Lindley executing playbook with a healthy WR corps gives them a shot.

Pretty sure trade deadline has passed or they would.

That would be about the toughest team for him to jump in and start against.
