4 star QB Dwayne Lawson will most likely flip from Miami to VT

The crystal balls are starting to flip to VT, it appears:

This sounds like a good get and could make things even more interesting come spring.

In his last 2 seasons, Lawson has thrown for 43 TD's and only 9 INT's.

Now, I'm not saying that this directly translate to college, but these are the stats we need at QB. Start feeding that kid some Campbell's Chunky Soup!

If this happens, which QB currently on the roster transfers first?

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Hands Up Leal..

Durkin. Hands down, Durkin.

Durkin won't be going anywhere as long as Scot Loeffler is the offensive coordinator. He was directly recruited by Loeffler and made the choice to attend VT before even visiting.

Ford, I have no idea. But I think both stay. Two QBs in one cycle can be a bit awkward, but I feel like it is smart to try and land one QB every cycle that you believe can win games in your conference. Some won't pan out. Other times you may have someone win a job and get hurt. VT was very lucky during Tyrod and Logan's time at QB to not have injuries when they had zero depth behind them. As we saw with Vick (forced to play Grant Noel vs Miami in 2000), you need to have someone behind your starter who has starter level ability. Not Dave Meyer/Nick Sorenson/Ju Ju Clayton.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

I also imagine we will have package plays for Durkin down the road no matter who the QB is. (ala Duke, Florida with Tebow as a freshman)

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

Very good point. Yes, incredibly lucky given Tyrod and Logan's mobile-ness. What about Motley?

Say what you want about Sorenson but he had a nice long NFL career.

On the other side of the football

yes, if by "the other side of the football" you mean special teams.

I recall him playing as a DB also.. but either way, the original point about him not being a starter level QB still stands

Yep, pretty sure he played safety. And got burned by FSU so badly that we put Midget at safety and put at CB a freshman who had a lot of hype named Ronyell Whitaker (who made the cover of SI (getting beat for a TD while committing a PI)).

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

I was referring to him playing DB in the NFL.. at least for a few years anyway

French. First you downgrade Kendall Fuller. Now you're smack talking Deep Ball Dave. You trying to start something here?

Obviously French forgot how he could make those throws into far-away trashcans.

Meyer was good. I agree. I would take him any year.

He was good enough to beat Pitt in 98 with me in the stadium, so no hard feelings for Long-Ball Dave. But, there were lots of running plays that day.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Those VT-Pitt games from that era were great.

Meyer played against miami in 2000. Not Noel

Tyrod did it, Mikey!

Good catch.

Given the success of Miami's freshman QB, this makes sense.

I wish he was an EE but I am still very glad to get him if he does indeed switch.

Anyone have a timeline of when anything will happen on this?

T_Sprad3

Speaking to some Canes friends of mine, they're expecting him to flip, but would like to somehow be able to hold onto him. There isn't much playing time available at QB for Miami with Kaaya likely being entrenched for the next couple years, so a few of their QB recruits are looking to bail. Lawson supposedly is a bit of an underrated get, and should pay off for us if we get him.

lol

I like how he's been trying to say that Miami is getting the better end of the deal because they've been able to flip a couple low 3* OLmen while we are flipping Lawson. I mean, don't get me wrong, we need OLmen, but the guys we're getting are of the high quality variety.

You obviously never used one of Shultz Hall's late 80's era subs as a step-stool. They worked well in a pinch.

In the late 90's it was the Detrick Dash. You couldn't put on weight eating there because you deposited it about 5-10 minutes after eating. Very glad to hear that it has gotten MUCH better in the past few years.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

So it was originally Tech's Taco Bell?

I doubt you have been to taco bell then.

One of my friends found an unrolled condom in his pasta. This was about a week after he found a spring from a pen in his food. Taco Bell would be a step up from Detrick.

Edit: For clarity, he found those items in his food in Detrick, not Taco Bell.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

To be fair, Dietrick has come a long way since the 70s when the nickname was DieQuick.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

My freshman year it was Dietrick and then sophomore year it was D2. D2 was so much better. I think I maybe only ate at Dietrick twice and that was because we had a big group of people and West End was packed.

It's come a long way since the 90's as well. Good for them.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

They actually have already announced that they're going to revamp the entire menu. I got a chance to see a lot of what they want to do when I used to work there (switched jobs over the summer) and if they can pull it off it'll be fantastic. As a former employee, though, I have absolutely zero confidence in them being able to pull it off. The student staff aren't there long enough to help with any of the prep, their job is to serve, clean up the shop, then the dining area. The actual staff.....well......I mean no disrespect but I haven't been back since I left the job. Spent waaaay to much time there and learned way too much.

Taco Bell is like banging an ex-girlfriend. It feels great while you are doing it, but you feel like complete shit afterwards and question what you were thinking.

It went from $2.49 to $2.99 overnight at my local taco bell. Not pleased one bit.

I have no problem with the Bell but I can't bring myself to try breakfast there.

It is well worth it. The AM crunchwrap is on point.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

I felt the exact same way when they first started advertising the breakfast. I tried on the insistence of my girlfriend, now I'm a huge fan. Do your self a favor and give the am crunchwrap a try.

OK. I'll try one tomorrow morning and report back.

RIP

I recommend starting with a regular sausage wrap. Tortilla filled with hashbrown, sausage, egg, cheese, and jalapeno sauce(this is optional, also great with out it). Then transition to the Country wrap where you take all that but replace the jalapeno sauce with sausage gravy. It is gooooood. my wife likes the california wrap.

The Taco Bell near my house was closed for renovations so I will have to try another day. My apologies to all who endured a sleepless night waiting for my review.

I hear ya. I used to pressure clean hoods & ductwork way back in the day. Never did any fast food places, surprisingly enough.

Believe it or not, Mexican places were the best. We'd roll in after they closed, and they'd have their illegals shoulder deep in the ductwork wiping it out before we even got started. Filters & hoods were spotless. I'm barely joking when I say I'd eat off the floors in those places.

It's been years, so take that with a grain of salt.

Worst places: Chinese restaurants. Those guys as a rule seemed to thinking cleaning was beneath them. Prep surfaces piled with offal. Spills from God knows when festering hear and there. And the grease build was like a thick silicon cement you had to peel off with a zero-tip at 180 degrees. And then they'd try to stiff you on the bill.

We came into one place after hours. I'm not going to name it because I don't want anyone to get litigious, but they may or may not have been on Draper Ave. They were on their way out, and just told us to lock up when we left. It was dark in the kitchen, and my partner grabbed me before I stepped in and said "Is the floor... moving?"

We reached in and flipped on the lights, and it was like a horror movie -- they were everywhere, shiny and creepy and scattering for the dark recesses. My partner looked at me, and in his best Indiana Jones said "Cockroaches. Why did it have to be cockroaches?"

We got done with that place, locked the doors, stripped down to our underwear and sprayed each other off, and tossed our clothes in the dumpster.

Glad we didn't get pulled over that night.

The place that may or may not have been on Draper may or may not have been closed at least once (maybe twice?) by the health department during my time at VT. It may or may not have also been the place where all of my friends who ate there may or may not have gotten very ill at least once.

Anyone familiar with Pal's Sudden Service? My first job was at a Pal's and that place was seriously like hospital level clean. Once a week the ENTIRE restaurant got wiped down floor to ceiling with a bleach solution. They had us climb on top of the freezers in the back to wipe them down. I would feel safer eating food from Pal's than food made in my own kitchen.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Pal's is home to mostly the East TN area. It's the only fast food place I eat at when I have to. Glad to know it is clean.

I will be having Pal's tomorrow night after I drive from Orlando to Bristol. Pal Barger is an ex-marine and knows how to run a business right. Over the years Pal's has garnered national attention for their innovative and efficient processes as well as how their business is run at the top levels.

And the food is delicious. Most of it. Here lately they've experimented with the menu and had a few misses. Mainly the grilled chicken sandwiches and the philly steak on a hot dog bun thing.

Really? I loved the Philly dog. Never had the big chichen but the chipped ham is a fave of mine and I'd always imagined the big chicken was similar.

Their breakfast is amazing as well.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Breakfast is awesome (CHEDDAR ROUNDS!!!!). And yes, the big chicken is as amazing as the chipped ham. Big chicken isn't on the menu anymore but you can still order it.

Dietrick. Good lord. I'd go there with my buddies, walk back to dorm, and we all just walked into the bathroom.

Actually, there wasn't much walking...

I lost 15-20 lbs. my freshman year eating at Owens in 75-76. Went straight from the dining hall to stall #3 on the 2nd floor of Miles Hall.

Second floor of Miles Hall!! Hell yes! I was there 08-09.

If we could only get an OL to keep him upright

If we land our top two prospects left at o-line, it may be the least of our concern in years to come. A lot of the guys we have committed right now have SEC size.

Thomas and Nijman? Or are you considering Nijman as DT?

Nijman will be defense if he comes here, the one I was referring to would be Isaiah Prince and Kenny Thomas. I believe we are thicker in that race than most believe.

We're gonna need a separate depth chart for Isaiahs and Adonises.

You and your technicalities. Fair enough though. I suppose I called it that because it left me feeling like a zombie. The sequel was even worse

It basically is a zombie movie in every sense, though. Just easier to kill than Romeroesque zombies. Kind of a tradeoff for being fast and strong.

Movies like the remake of Dawn of the Dead where they are kill the brain zombies but also fast and strong are just overkill, IMO.

Aint that the truth, kinda off. However, Lawson's tape is very impressive. Throws the ball very well, especially on the run. Can run very well also, I saw somewhere else that he was compared to Scam Newton. Im not a big fan of him, but he was great in college. Lawson does remind me of a slimmer Scam running and throwing the ball. Would be a big addition to this class and some real talent.

Lawson wants to be the greatest QB to play the game and wants to graduate. At Tech he can be that and more with players like Bucky, Cam, I. Ford catching his balls.

If you don't know what to watch for, pay attention to John Wall, the point guard. He is playing out of his mind right now and looks like a top 5 PG in the league. The WizKids are currently 19-6, good for second in the Eastern Conference. That is tied for the best start in franchise history and a win tonight would put this team in the record books.

I too am a Wiz fan. It has been hard at times but I have joked often these last two years that it is a strange time when I am looking forward to the Wizards saving my other teams' collective seasons. About a week after the all-star break last year I told my GF that they figured out how good they CAN be and would make the playoffs. When they made a good postseason run and lost, she asked was I disappointed and simply told her that I couldn't be mad, I watched a team that learned not only how good they could be but, one that learned how good they had to be to WIN (consistently). I look at them this year and felt an air of confidence before the season (plus paul, humphries and blair didn't hurt) that told me this will be a very special season. Now it is still to early to say "I told you so," but I feel as though i will be telling a few folks that next summer/ late spring.

Now, long story short I feel the same way about this Hokie team as I did about that Wiz team last year. Will the '15 team be this years Wizards (thus far)?

Weeezards fan here as well.... Besides Wall who is playing like a top 5 PG like you said, I think what will take them far into the playoffs this year will be their DEEP bench. Hopefully they can maintain their 3 point shooting all year long as well. This team is very fun to watch night in and night out. Can't wait until the playoffs this year.

Welp, now I know who to blame for putting the hex on the WizKids last night. Probably second worst game of the year from them behind the Toronto game this season. Last night was painful to watch.

:( I know, now I know to keep it away from this forum. Hopefully we start another long win streak tomorrow though.

It's the damn name! Go back to be called the Bullets! They are doomed forever as the Wiztards!

Because they were winning back to back Championships as the Bullets...

Somebody please start another Lawson thread, I will beg!

I'll admit, it crossed my mind to make an "OT: Off Topic: REALLY OFF TOPIC" thread.

The only thread worth posting after this initial news is when he commits somewhere. If he commits to VT, Joe will be on top of that news.

"Exit light..."

Does anyone know when he will decide I saw 247 posted behind the wall, but I understand how touchy it is not to post that on a free site.

I just tried, but don't have enough legs.

You only need hands with fingers. I don't see how legs help much in this case.

When I attempted to post a new topic it advised I needed 44 turkey legs to post.

Lol just playing with you man I know you needed turkey legs. It was sarcastica. We like to joke around on TKP. Maybe to much at times. As for Lawson its looking like we are at the mercy of paysites/ paywall so might as well wait for the "Hokies pick up 2015 QB Lawson", or something to that effect, thread. More than likely this this thread will *go to shit* or die and come back again.

Just gave you number 44. Happy posting!

Well I haven't posted in a long time I guess they changed the guidelines! Yes, the paysites I use to frequent several of those sites until I found the most awesome Hokie site.

More off topic comments than fans at my spring game.

Did you know I used to be a cop?

Maybe you could call it the Charlottesville Bowl and try to convince your fans that it's an actual bowl game? They don't have enough experience to know the difference.

I went to Washington-Lee high school. I think LOLUva would probably win against WLHS. Probably.

Kind of off topic but for some reason I'm not too high on Motley he didn't really impress too much and the UVA game was the nail n the coffin for me. I think he is the odd man out next year.

On Topic - The Doritos Locos Taco's are awesome...but soft shell tacos will always be my go to.

Motley impressed me running against Duke. I know he had a lot of injuries hampering him this year but I know he has a ton of potential we haven't tapped into yet. I'm looking forward to see who comes out of the Spring's QB competition on top.

Agreed. He's shown some good things in the past year or so, but doesn't seem to really have all that strong of a grasp on the offense right now. Maybe when he's actually practicing we'll see some improvement.

Considering he only practiced scout team for the first 7 or 8 games of the season we shouldn't be surprised that he was rusty and not fully in tune with what the offense was doing. Even once he was thrown back in the mix he still wasn't getting first team snaps either.

Hopefully VT has a fully open QB competition in the spring and, if necessary, the fall to ensure we've got the best QB behind center come the start of next season.

"fully open". The freshmen no longer have the redshirt opportunity hanging over them, so I think everyone will have to be considered, as well as the question "who is the QB of the future". Are we playing the best man for the job in 2015, or looking ahead to 2016? Or does the "future" start with the No. 2 QB or the "special package" QB?, with the best man for the job right now being the starter?
