I understand the Stanford angle, but Newsome? Whats the story there?

Tweedy can run like a dadgum antelope or whatever. I like to use scalded dog. Do antelopes lumber? Cheetah, OK. He runs like a cheetah. He's fast. - Bud Foster

If it's up to Frank Beamer to answer, it's most definitely a sitting in timeout issue.

Leonard. Duh.

Per Bitter, a 1 game suspension for a team rule violation.

Foster got into more detail, saying running backs Travon McMillian and D.J. Reid "have really stepped up,"

Last time I remember CBF talking about running backs Ryan Williams stepped on the field. Hopefully these guys can bring a similar level of play. Lord knows we need it with the injuries we have at RB plus it would allow shai and Williams to redshirt and get fully healthy.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Reid is suppose to have some solid weight and speed. If he has the cuts and the vision, we have ourselves another great back.

I was just thinking we hadn't heard much about Reid. Even with the injuries this year, there's no shortage of candidates for playing time in 2015 at that position.

CBF? Haha. I just now realized after all these years that Frank Beamer and Bud Foster have the same initials when flipped.

"Go Hokies!" - Thomas Jefferson

My take away from this article is that Loeffler clearly expects to be back...

The other think I noticed is that Loeffler said this:
"I think the future is extremely bright," he said. "Its the first time in a while that Ive had a quarterback that is returning, which is really cool. So Im really excited about him. Im excited about our young kids working with them in the spring."

Its pretty obvious he considers Brewer the QB for next year, based on this comment.

-- Stepping away from the current Hokies for a second, it looks like Logan Thomas will make his first career start at quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals this week. As sports historian David Teel of the Daily Press noted, that'd make him the fifth Virginia Tech quarterback to start an NFL game, joining Don Strock, Will Furrer, Jim Druckenmiller and Michael Vick.

What this doesn't tell us is how many Hokies have started at Tight End in the NFL....

VHokie

Reading the article, you get the feeling that Loeffler expects to be back, but his body language during the video tells me that while he actually may be back, he surely doesn't think its a slam dunk deal.

Leonard. Duh.

That may be reading into things a bit too much. If he was going to be fired, it would have happened. The best candidates will be scooped up well before the end of bowl season.

Last time we waited until after the bowl game.

I think there was some stuff going on behind the scenes there as well, and there really hasn't been much if any chatter on that front this season (from people who actually, y'know, matter). On top of the timing, I'd be surprised if Lefty wasn't retained for all the usual reasons: Beamer's imminent retirement, offense already in rebuild mode, etc.

I dunno, the aTm boards said something about lefty leaving so it must be true

Zing, winner.

I'm down with what you're saying. I probably am reading into it too much. But Loeffler looks scared to me.

For the record, I think the Wake Forest game was enough for someone to lose their job, but under the circumstances, the Hokies are probably better off staying the course.

Leonard. Duh.

But Loeffler looks scared to me.

It's probably cause he hasn't slept in 2 years and has a newborn at home.

Seriously though, he isn't kidding when he says he doesn't care what the outside world thinks. He really could give a crap. I'd be surprised if he and Beamer and Whit haven't had some sort of discussion regarding his future.

Glad to see that Loeffler is going to try to build on Brewer. Hope he improves and people around him.

As for Newsome, I'm surprised because we do well with guys who have family ties. Newsome also did have some amount of a role. If they don't play in the bowl game, it leaves us with Byrn and Knowles as the other receivers, a little short.

In the long term, we will have Jaylen Bradshaw and Knowles for next season for depth, perhaps Charley Myers and hope some others step up as well. Liked that bud gave a shutout to my high school guy CJ Carroll.

Stanford might as well be good as gone, perhaps the emergence of Ford and Phillips scared him off. Some guys can't take it when their role is reduced. Let's hope this thing plays out well for both sides.

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

I'm sorry, but the fact that Knowles is still on the team brings zero comfort. Seriously, remember his "performance" this season? He should not be seeing the field at all.

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

BTW, Happy Festivus everyone!

Class of '02. GO HOKIES!

If my research is correct, Lefty hasn't had two years with the same starting QB since he was at Michigan (last season there was 2007). That's crazy.

EDIT (unrelated):
Also, this was a great analogy:

What are all the injuries like? He put it in terms we newspaper writers could understand.
"The best way I can equate it is if you have 14 keys on your keyboard, its pretty tough to write a story at times," Loeffler said. "You can do it. But its not at times the easiest thing to do. Im excited when those guys get back. Im excited where were going. Ive said it for a long time: I think this team healthy, I think this team with another year of maturity, I think this team with another year of becoming mentally and physically tougher, has got a shot."

So was brought up again this time by Brewer: Newsome and Stanford NOT practicing with team. Thanks to Mike Barber for reporting this.

Unfortunately that seemed like a long time coming with Stanford. I hope he gets everything figured out

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

Honestly couldn't be happier right now, he seemed to have serious attitude issues and I have a strong feeling he was a terrible person in the locker room!

That being said I wish nothing but the best of luck to him in the future.

there is no room for a comment like this on this board. It's unfair to Stanford to make bold statements like that. Our resident media insider, Alex Koma, had nothing but nice things to say about Stanford....and he actually spoke with him in person. Where do you get the wild idea that he seemed to have attitude issues. Why do you have a feeling he was a terrible person in the locker room? Those are really crappy things to be saying about someone when you really don't know the situation.

Onward and upward

Stanford will always be a huge case of "what if"
