Per the press conference this afternoon. Stanford is no longer with the team and will not be admitted back and Deon Newsome was left in Blacksburg for a violation of team rules and will not be playing in the bowl.

Josh Stanford was one of my favorites, sad to see him leave this type of legacy in Blacksburg. It's probably for the best though.
I wonder if Carlis Parker takes on the jet sweep role, in lieu of Newsome? Kind of like how he was utilized in the Sun Bowl.

My thinking is that Parker gets bumped up into Newsome's old role and Stroman is the "contigency" plan for if Parker gets hurt.

Im guessing he will, was surprised he didnt get more of a chance to do that this year. Wasnt he hurt? Is he healthy now? There is no way or him to get a red shirt?
His HS tape was really impressive and the coaches were raging about him in fall camp, I would really like to see him meet his full potential.

Everyone could guess why Stanford was upset when he got benched and left the team for "personal reasons".
It's sad to see someone caught up in so much emotion and then completely reacting in the wrong way instead of trying to make the best of the situation. I think he got benched solely for inconsistent play and dropped balls, but he probably thinks he's a victim of something else. The reality is that Ford and Phillips were simply better, and that's why they were playing instead of him.
this is conjecture...I don't think it's fair to Stanford to make these assumptions. There are numerous possible reasons he may have been unhappy and I don't think it's fair to paint him in a negative light.
we don't even really know if the reason he's off the team is because he was unhappy...at least, I don't know that. I'm not in the locker room.
But it does say josh was dismissed. Not that he left the team. One says I have other issues I need to deal with or am not happy here or whatever. The other says there are issues with josh and the team or coaches that can't be fixed or he did something to get dismissed.
So if they say he left the team for personal reasons permanently then I got it. Best of luck to him. But when they say he was dismissed permanently it takes on a negative connotation.

I just took it from the title of the thread. of course the other thread by joe said he left. Again two different meanings and people with an apparent link to the team say it's for the better due to locker room issues and attitude.
Hope he finds what he's looking for.

Too bad about Stanford. His run against Miami was just about the highlight of that entire season. I got the feeling he wasn't really happy in Blacksburg, though, so maybe it is for the best.
Newsome needs to get back on the field, I like him a lot and he will be good.

Hate it for Joshua but best of luck to him. Newsome will learn and be fine. Another note, and I am probably in the minority but I wish we would stay with traditional unis. Even for the Military bowl. I am as patriotic as anybody but just get tired of all these novelty uniforms, Stars and Stripes, Hokie stone etc. Just don't like it.....can you see Bama, Tennessee, Texas, Michigan, Penn St etc wearing anything like Tech does? Thanks for letting me vent go Hokies!

Traditional uniforms suck, just my two cents. "Traditional" in this context is just another way of saying boring. I hate Oregon's clown suits, don't get it twisted, but I just don't get what the infatuation is with "traditional uniforms." I honestly think we have some of the coolest unis in the nation, and part of that are the throwbacks and part of that are funky helmets we pull out every now and then. I will say I throughly hated the gray unis we wore against Bama last year, but I understand they had something to do with the Corps of Cadets, so that's cool. But just from the eye test, I thought those were wack.
