It would be progress if he hadn't said the same thing in the spring. And the next sentence:
"Were pleased with what J.C. [Coleman] and Sam [Rogers] have done down the stretch and then would like to get Trey in there, and well see how it goes with Jerome and Joel [Caleb] and some of those guys as well as we get into the game."
So by "not using four guys," he apparently means using five or six guys.

He said we'll see how it goes when we get into the game. So if JC and Sam can't get it done and Trey can't go, we might be forced to see how a bigger back can do. You'd think that the past 3 games would be proof enough, but I guess you'll take whatever message you want from that.

"throwing chairs and giving some passionate speech to be talked about for a long time in Virginia Tech lore,"
Hahahaha! I'm not sure just how many times the chair tossing has occurred, but I was told of a time that happened at Western Branch where it certainly worked.
Also...I enjoyed the article...DC born and bred, DiNardo fan, Skins fan. Been a long while, and it took me right back....Loved the VT tour guide: Hokies have eyes everywhere. Ha.
Merry Christmas Andy! Thanks for your work all year.

Shane was hired into Billy Hite's position, taking over both RBs and Associate Head Coach title. I doubt a coordinator wants to be Associate Head. Both OC and DC have enough to do during a game or even during a practice.

Exactly. When Billy Hite held the title of Associate Head Coach he was expected to step in just like Shane is now (my memory may be incorrect, but didn't Hite actually do so once). It is just a contingency plan. The OC and DC have way too much on their plates to fill in for Frank and moving either to HC for the game would require other coaches to assume their responsibilities. This move causes the least amount of pieces to be moved.

Billy Hite did step in once. VT won 30-13 over Tulane that day. That, to me, is key. In Beamer's tenure, the Associate Head Coach stepped in once. We're in "mountain-out-of-a-molehill" territory here. Frank is still in charge, Shane will likely just be handling communication. These cries of nepotism, IMHO, are ridiculous. Are Baylor fans going to scream about Briles promoting his son to OC, as he just did? Maybe they will if he doesn't succeed, but that's all I think this is. People will be critical of Shane, and this is just another reason to pick at him. He was hired by a public university after his hiring and contract were approved by people above his father. End of story. Family ties are all throughout sports. He's been an assistant at a number of FBS schools; he's qualified to hold the position he has. There's merit to the debate of whether or not he's an effective coach, but anything else just sounds silly to me.

Take the name off and see what you have: a young coach with SEC experience who's coached under some really great ones. Literally the only thing that could even remotely raise any sort of concern here is the fact that he's a Beamer. If you put any other name on him, we're all focusing on the game and salivating over the prospect of Dadi absolutely annihilating another QB.

Because it is nepotism. It's a head coach intentionally putting his son in a spot where, with absolutely no experience whatsoever, he gets the reigns to the team if/when the head coach cannot make it.
The Bobby Bowden situation with Jeff was bad, but this one could arguably be worse.

Go home Bitter! Have a good eve and a Merry Christmas and another good eve and then call it a year and a day.
Most depressing article I have read this year on the state of our football program.
We didn't even lose though

Spoke too soon. Doh!

And I still see "police report" first before my eyes adjust to this headline. Merry Christmas Andy!
Not a good feeling for the bowl game, however I think the boys will rise up to the occasion despite the adversity self imposed and otherwise.
If Shane is running the practices instead of Bud and standing in for Beams Sr., why does this have a very nepotismy vibe about it?

I know. You're probably right. But it just feels (to me) suggestive.

Who do you think has more on their plate, the defensive coordinator or the running backs coach?
.... Sarcasm? Or just a really stupid comment?
