Unless a coach gets hired away, I too foresee no coaching turnover. Unfortunately, given a lack of ties to the program, Stacy Searels would be the most poachable prospect. Fingers crossed that Whit understands how devastating four OL coaches in four years would be.

i wouldn't worry too much. Mack Brown has a good relationship with Shane and Frank Beamer. Searels was recommended by Mack Brown and I think its a good relationship based on that at least he will hang around for 3 years.

There will be others who will write more artfully about the X's and O's of that scheme

Totally a tip of the cap to TKP staff, I know.

"The Big Ten is always using excuses to cancel games with us. First Wisconsin. Then Wisconsin. After that, Wisconsin. The subsequent cancellation with Wisconsin comes to mind too. Now Penn State. What's next? Wisconsin?" -HorseOnATreadmill

So Andy, do you know how the win will be credited? Does it go on Frank's record or is Shane now 1-0 as HC? It's different from when Billy Hite stepped in, because Frank was totally absent then, but since he was in the booth and still technically coaching, this counts as a victory for Frank, right?

"Exit light..."

Frank was there. He was coaching. He'll get the win.

Makes sense, thanks!

"Exit light..."

Andy - thanks for all your hard work and dedication this year!

We put the K in Kwality

Absolutely. You do Hokie Nation proud every week.

But I gotta say, in a friendly tone of voice ...

I think Beamer is a big picture guy, and when you step back from the season, put some time between that giant egg Tech laid at Wake Forest and look at things from 10,000 feet,

is one of the funkiest mixtures of metaphors I've read in a long time.

"Our job as coaches is to influence young people's lives for the better in terms of fundamental skills, work ethic, and doing the right thing. Every now and again, a player actually has that effect on the coaching staff." Justin Fuente on Sam Rogers

TerribleMetaphorGuy is rubbing off onto Andy.

Stick that metaphor in your pipe and smoke it.

Anyone know when Rogers got hurt? I don't recall hearing any mention of it during the game.. I thought they were just going with the hot runner (JCC)

on top of that, how serious? a fractured elbow sounds like it could sideline him for a while.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

It happened on the goal line I think right before our last TD. He hurt himself when he got down to the 1 on a carry, IIRC, stayed in for the scoring play, then went to the sideline.

Yeah, that play where he stretched to the one yard line, if you watch he gets up kinda tender towards one arm and gives it the once over. Must not have hurt too much because as you stated, he stayed in the game. But you could tell that it was uncomfortable. Hope it isn't too bad.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

Did you notice the crack in the earth where he landed! The earth broke his elbow...and lost.

We put the K in Kwality

(looks down at arm) What, exactly, is the "elbow", really? And how do you fracture it?

___

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

I questioned this, too. The elbow is a joint so wouldn't it technically be a sprain?

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Many thanks.

I'm not sure, but you should see what he did to the field when it happened...

bane

Saw him walking around DT Annapolis wearing a sling after the game.

Every second counts

Interesting tid bit on the 6 dbs. I remember during the game ESPN mentioned a stat where we had given up 8 plays with 20 or more yards to Cinci. Super bend but no break?

The "Mr. Fantastic" defense.

Anthony Shegog...the next DBU graduate, #24 was staying close to his man. Shutting down big time

JCC mentioned doing this "for the senior running backs". Looking at the roster, I see TB Daniel Dyer, and fullbacks Griffin Hite (Billy's son, scout team) and Greg Gadell listed as seniors.

And I know it's completely out of context, but when I read "regressing to the mean", my first thought was 'you know Bud's coming back, right?'

I think i heard him say he was doing it for the Seniors.

Actually saw a second or two of Griffin on television, which made me smile.

1) Stroman is a bad, bad man. dude is a legit threat anywhere on the field... I can see Lefty and Bud both drooling over the possibilities. Andy's article on Stroman HERE
2) Further apologies to JCC can be sent now. If you didn't before do it now, if you did before do it again. Some light flipped on and he has been a real pleasure watching these past few games. I remember when the slightest touch would send him to the ground and now he is running through and around people. Wow. Right now, it should be his job to lose going into the Spring and Fall. Read McFarling's article if you haven't HERE
3) Award for "Most Pleasant Disruption" goes to Nigel Williams. This guy looks like he is going to be special. great to see that kind of talent behind Maddy ready to step up. If only the big guy could have scored...
4) Brewer will and should be QB1 next year.
5) BUD, BUD, BUD.... wow, the level of commitment this man has for the Hokies is breathtaking. Thanks go to #Whitness and Dr Sands
6) Chuck Clark has REALLY improved over his career. It's been a pleasure watching that happen.
7) The "D" in DL stands for DOMINANCE. Our DL next year is just scary. Dadi is back. Maddy is back. Marshall, Ekanem.
8) Fuller doing Fuller things. He straight up robs people throwing his way in the endzone. Imagine the Bears choosing him for an even Fuller secondary.... damn...
9) Shane did a respectable job stepping up and where I think he excels is getting the team hyped up. I for one loved that the Big Whistle, if only for the day, rode Stroman 30 yards down the bench like an ostrich jockey. He was pumped, the team was pumped and it was all positive from there.
10) Lefty. he will be back and for as many detractors as he has I have put money down that next year we will see some fully dipped dork magic more often than not. No one really knows what his offense is but with so many young players being key roles and a QB finally having a full year in the "system", and an OL that is getting recharged (HOLY PANCAKES TELLER!) Lefty will produce an offense we have all been waiting for.... barring, of course....
Bonus) Injuries... Damn... so many injuries this year. Can you imagine if we were relatively injury free? If we can get healthy and stay healthy we can be downright nasty next season.

Great analysis, I see Stroman as a possible JCC replacement. I also believe Bud would stay as DC even if Frank retired in near future, the man obviously loves VT and a new coach would be foolish not to want to keep him. The only thing I might disagree with you on is Brewer. I believe QB position should be wide open in spring practice.

Stroman is a DB and with the amount of RBs we have, there's no way he switches. Unless you were saying that Stroman can replace JCC as the token small guy with an assload of heart. In that case, definitely.

I was more referring to the occasional use as a speed guy running around end, I do know he is a DB.

I was giving you a leg regardless, but "ostrich jockey" put it right over the top.

uv

.

I cannot stop laughing at this. It's like a real life reinactment of those weird Japanese computer animation race videos that were posted here a while back.

If only the camera-person wasn't so entranced by the magical dance of that one ostrich that suddenly decided that it wanted to be a ballerina, we could have seen how the rest of the jockeys ended up on the ground.

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"
-gobble gobble chumps

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

Personally, I get a kick out of watching an ostrich spin out.

There are a lot of GIFs out there, but this one might be my favorite! Shane has got to be a blast to be around. That energy level and excitement he brings every week just seems like it would be infectious.

in Fuller we trust

Wasn't it Shane who head-butted a player coming to the sideline, when the player was wearing a helmet and Shane wasn't? Did someone make a gif of that?

"Our job as coaches is to influence young people's lives for the better in terms of fundamental skills, work ethic, and doing the right thing. Every now and again, a player actually has that effect on the coaching staff." Justin Fuente on Sam Rogers

I believe he head butted Sam Rogers, as unbelievably crazy as that sounds, and he miraculously lived to tell the tale

I just keep thinking what if we didn't have all those injuries and we won the games that we lost by less than 7. What would we be talking about right now? I don't think we would have made the playoffs because we would still have probably lost to FSU. In true Virginia Tech fashion we were so close yet so far away from something really good.
