Andy, is it expected that Loeffler will simply get an extension at his current pay? IIRC, his contract is up in June, correct?

"Exit light..."

Auburn stops paying his salary this year. His contract expires next year.

Loeffler's letter of appointment runs through June 30 this year, so I would guess he'll be extended. Not sure for how much, but raises are built into Beamer's contract as a percentage based on what bowl VT goes to.

Auburn paid a portion of Loeffler's salary up through June 30 of last year. Tech's been paying his entire $400,000 per year salary since then.

Ah, gotcha. I was a year off. Curious why they'd only give him a 2 year deal.

IIRC it's an extension of a year that's already in the contract that triggers 2015.
Edited for clarity.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Good to see that Gray & Moorehead both got raises as well.

Whit is being proactive. I like him more with every news release.

Andy is laying some knowledge down on his Facebook page. He apparently has had enough this season of idiots.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Andy either has the patience of a saint, or the liver of an Irishman. Maybe both.

"Exit light..."

The comments he used to get when they weren't connected to facebook were already bad enough. I remember when he threatened to ban a few spectacularly stupid "fans", especially that one named Jenny. But it has just exploded into absurd territory since linking to facebook. I don't know if Andy has a contractual obligation to actually engage with comments on facebook, because I would just flat out ignore them all. If everyone on TKP gave Joe 10 dollars maybe we could offer the guy a job to get away from such idiocy...

Funny you should mention "Jennie". I was just wondering the other day what happened to her/him. That was some entertaining reading. (And no, I am not her.)

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

(And no, I am not her.)

that was hilarious. No you are definitely not her. You may be pessimistic but Jennie was batshit crazy.

Pessimistic? No, not me! I just bought my husband a 99 jersey because I'm positive the new 99 (Mihota) is going to wear it just as well as the previous 99 (Gayle). Nothing to do with selling out of Fuller jerseys in his size, not at all.

And never fear, I'm not known for drinking bourbon and smoking cigars with the ladies while trashing "Fancy Gap Frank" and hijacking poor Andy's column on a regular basis. I just remember some of that stuff because it was so freaking hilarious. Aanndd I should probably stop now in case she/he is lurking, just waiting for that perfect opportunity to make an appearance on TKP. My apologies in advance if that happens.

"Tajh Boyd over the middle . . . and it's caught for an interception! Michael Cole, lying flat on his back, ARE YOU KIDDING???"

haha, no definitely not because Fuller's was sold out.

And no fear about Jennie on TKP. Doubt she could last a week with her types of comments with so many on here that use statistics and facts in their posts. Actually would be morbidly fun to watch her meteoric fail on here.

I know Whit and Frank are still feeling each other out, but I get a growing sense that Whit is motivating Frank, not in the sense of being worried about a new AD but in terms of Whit's obvious desire to elevate the program being infectious. There's obviously a culture change happening within VT athletics, and the more I hear Whit talk about his interactions with Frank, the more I think Frank is getting energized by it.

Whit is a great hire so far. He does not accept mediocrity, and is aggressive in the pursuit of improvement.

I think you hit it on the head when you said Whit is energizing Frank. Not to knock a man who did so much for us, but I think Jim Weaver was mostly about business. His concern was the budget, and he was damn good at it. However, I think that there was a disconnect between the AD, the coaches, and the fans. I think this disconnect led to a stagnating environment in the Athletic Department, one where doing things the same way as before was the accepted method. While it was good to us for a while, it kept us from keeping up with the pace of change in the landscape of collegiate athletics.

Whit, on the other hand, is wholly dedicated to getting everyone involved and doing whatever is necessary to try to keep Virginia Tech at the forefront of athletics. It's reinvigorated both the football and basketball programs.

Of course, there is probably still some tension between the two. Despite Whit's vote of confidence, I think Beamer is aware that Whit will not hesitate to make the changes he sees fit along the football staff. I think that Beamer was practically in complete control of his staff with Weaver, and the new regime might take some getting used to. Under Weaver, the hands-off approach was probably best, but Whit is much more involved in the entire process and, as such, will be a bigger part of the program top to bottom.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the football program next year, but very optimistic about the years beyond for both football and basketball. Whit was a great hire, and he's showing it.
