There's been a lot of talk on here about VT losing/or rebuilding the connection to the 757. So I though I'd look at the results from Rivals 2008 - 2015
Of 3, 4, and 5 star recruits (102 players)
- Virginia Tech 30%
- Virginia 29%
- Old Dominion 4%
- Maryland 4%
- WVU 3%
- FSU 3%
- Tennessee 2%
21 other schools (14 P5 teams) signed the remaining 25 players
There have been 5 5* players
3 choose UVA
1 VT
1 FSU
- Bama got Blake Sims as their one player from 757
- Clemson got Tajh Boyd as their one player from 757
I still don't know what it means or who's winning.

I will say it 1000 times over... any shot that the Hokies have at becoming a National championship contender will be the result of significantly AND successfully expanding their recruiting beyond Virginia, especially for offensive linemen, quarterbacks, and wide receivers.
Yeah, it seems like the 757 always have great defensive players, but only good offensive players every once in a while
Giving a leg isn't sufficient for this one; I completely and fervently agree.

Dude I think you mean phillip sims. Blake is from GA. This data doesn't show how a lot of the higher recruits tend to go out of state. Sure VT can grab a lot of 3 & 4 stars but we need the top VA talent to stay in state if we want to compete on Elite level.
Expecting Elite talent to be 100% bound by the borders of the State, or on school in particular, will only lead to disappointment. Because they are elite, they have the whole country to pick from. Our success will depend more on branching out of Virginia and pulling in more good/great talent.
Just ask the University of Rhode Island
the wanna be tarheels?
Hey, don't insult the Rhode Island Rams like that. They may have only won one game this year, but at least they could pass a 2nd grade spelling test.
Hey don't insult 2nd graders like that, they are spelling savants compared to UNC athletes
You win
what i meant by that
the wear light blue, they're called the rams, they even stole the damn fight song
Surprised, u vee a has landed 29 % , considering their football woes & our dominance over them.
Despite putting together some subpar teams, UVA does seem to churn out a lot of NFL players. And for 757 and 804 kids, they're closer to home.
They turn out good players in a revolving door fashion. Highly rated kids enter and highly rated prospects leave. At tech unrated players enter and highly rated prospects leave. I am not sure UVA "produces" NFL players.
Also dude, not to pick at your data but you left out a good number of recruits, remember just last year Jayln Holmes chose OSU.
Jayln Holmes would be one of those. With Sims and Bama.
We aren't losing the 757 to a horde of invaders. We are losing a ~few top elite programs and to UVA
But maybe, what it is, really looks like is we are all looking in to the 757 to much.
The 757 is not the only area in the state producing good talent. Hand was from Woodbridge I believe?
And if Settle hadn't chosen the good guys, he wouldn't have been counted in this data.
Stonewall Jackson has put out RMFW, Stroman, and now Settle in the past several years as well.
Was Philip Sims from Oscar Smith a 5 star? He went to Bama.
Guy was a 4 star. Went to Bama and didn't fit there very well. He probably would have gotten some looks at play time if he went to VT.
Sims was overrated from the get-go. Honestly, this year is the first year where I felt like the Oscar Smith players were for real outside of JC Coleman a few years ago.
Booooooooooone?
My bad, you're right, don't know how I forgot about him. I guess I was just thinking of 4*+ guys.
They've had a lot of legit FBS talent this year and last though, more so than usual.
Sims was the best QB in Virginia that year so a 4 star was appropriate. Some Oscar smith players have done well, some haven't and that is the way it goes.
Askew, Hailes, Tim Smith, Sims, etc. versus JC Coleman as far as highly rated players go...
Tim Smith went pro
Probably right but he went to bama because that's where he wanted to play football ever since he was little.
What does the trendline look like over that eight year period? Just throwing all the data in a blender doesn't do much.
