OT: Hokie Yarn

GF is looking to start knitting some Hokie related items in the near future, but we are having the hardest time finding the right yarn for it. The yarn she is looking for needs to be good quality (so nothing from Wal-Mart, etc.), but not the hand-dyed stuff, as that would be cost prohibitive. Both yarns (maroon & orange) need to be of the same type, so they blend together on a sweater or scarf well. We were looking at buying from the same manufacturer, but we could only find one color or the other that fit the criteria.

Anyway, not sure if anyone here can help me, but if you are a crafter, let me know where you get your yarn. If you know someone who has knitted Hokie related items in the past, can you ask them where they got their yarn?

I got mine from the yarn store in Blacksburg across from University Mall behind the
Starbucks. http://mosaicyarns.8m.com/
I made my hat from a wool blend sock yarn. The colors are exact. I will try and post
a pic of my hat later today. Hope this might help. :)

Sweet-
You should sell those on etsy- I'd grab on for sure.

Haha thanks but I should give the credit to my Mother. I just bought the yarn. LOL
I am not a crafty girl unfortunately...

@AMB4VT

I'll ask my mom. She made some stuff for my son, I know it was an acrylic for wash ability. I'll post up when she replies and post pics.

My girlfriend crochets and is a whiz at yarn selection. I'll see what she can recommend.

EDIT: Response. Hope this helps!

Can be purchased at the link above.

If you want something machine washable and dryable the same colors are available in Cascade 200 which is a Superwash that can handle being run through a washing machine and dryer."

/\ he wasn't kidding when he said his gf was a whiz at yarn selection

Be jealous, y'all. These were made by my kids' grandma (my wife's mother). She's a regular at Mosaic in Blacksburg at University Mall.

Jealous!! They look so cute!! Would be perfect for my Niece!

Did anyone else think this was gonna be some far fetched tall tale some way related to Hokies?

That's the only reason I clicked the link.

Hat
Sweater

My mom made both of these. She used the acrylic so that it was easy to wash because it was going for a baby. the hat has orange in it too, but sometimes tough to see.

She got hers at Michaels, and she thinks it was Loops & Threads Impeccable in Burgundy. Not sure what the orange was.

Love it!!! She did a great job!

Great pics. One question - what is the wording on the bottom of Little Guy's orange socks?

If you can't get to Mosaics in Blacksburg, look on Knitpicks.com. They have a bunch of yarns in different materials, different weights, and different colors. Their yarns are inexpensive without being cheap.

Orange yarn: http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/Orange_Yarn__L30013006.html (obviously not all of these are the right orange)
Red yarn (closest they'll let you search for maroon) http://www.knitpicks.com/yarns/Red_Yarn__L30013007.html

Since you can't search for maroon yarn, it may be more helpful to search for the type of yarn you are looking for and finding the colors you want.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

I'm personally a huge fan of Essential Fiber's yarns for any time I want a semi-solid/tonal. It is hand dyed, but I've purchased sweater quantities from her before, and if you pick the right yarn, it's quite reasonable. 375 colors is nothing to sneeze at, either.

Also, you should tell your GF to get on Ravelry. There's a lot of resources there, including a Hokie Crafters group. She can also use it to find local yarn stores, where they can definitely help with picking out yarns and colorways.
