Get Excited about Trevon Hill

I'm in class so I'm not going to go too in depth here.

247sports has been doing "Future Hokies" interviews (all worth a quick read) but Trevon Hill has stuck out for his responses. (LInk at Bottom)

I've noticed a common theme through the recruits and I think it reflects the coaches pitches to them. The main pitch I've noticed is simple. "Virginia Tech was recently good, now we've dipped, help us get back to that dominating smash mouth football."

We've all noticed Trevon Hill has great potential on the field, but this kid might be the spark in the locker room that this team needs.

Virginia Tech was recently good, now we've dipped in dork magic, help us get back to that dominating smash mouth football."

FIFY

Yes, fully dipped in dork magic.

Dork magic is... like this?

Trevon...yeah, about that. We are going to have to go ahead and ask you to commit to a desert here at TKP.

This is the best thing I've read in a while. I was sitting at my desk at work dragging ass, and he made me want to go do pushups or something. Cannot wait to see this guy wearing maroon and orange.

He's bringing the nasty to Blacksburg. He would have fit right in with the 90's defenses we fielded.

"I'm bringing a different attitude to Virginia Tech! I'm hungry to get a ring, I didn't get one in high school. So now I'm determined to get one at the college level. I will put my all into the program, put my body on the line each and every week. I love competing and proving people wrong. I just want us to get our respect back in Blacksburg and I will do anything in my power to earn it."

YEEESSSSSS!

I love his attitude. We just need James Gayle to do a fall camp seminar on UVA trash talking and this team will be locked and loaded.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

I imagine this being part of that talk from Gayle: "... then when you find their most overrated lineman talking trash on Twitter, and you remind him about how you 'hit him with that spin move for the sack'"

I have been saying for a long time, if I had to pick a defensive end PURELY based on film and not on measurables, reputation, or perception, I would have taken Trevon Hill over Josh Sweat. His technique is fantastic and he is strong at the point of attack, where many great high school defensive ends either overwhelm blockers with their strength or (more often) are just so quick that they run around the edge and make plays. Hill knows how to play the game, and his reputation is that he also has that nasty chip on his shoulder that has always helped elevate past Hokie defenses.

Hill has been a favorite on mine in this class right behind Mook. His attitude, skill, and demeanor has the making of a potential game changer.

After reading his comments I feel the adrenaline flowing.

Welcome to the forum!

There's a lot to like about this class. Hill could see the field this fall and gets a chance to learn from Dadi and Ekanem.

I don't pretend to have studied film of either of the 2 guys. I did watch the ESPN game where Oscar Smith played the team from Florida. Based solely off that game, I liked Sweat better as an offensive player than a defensive end. When he made plays defensively, it was based on his speed alone.

I believe Trevon Hill, Mook Reynolds, and CJ Reavis will be leading our football team the next 4 years. Leading it with success, swag, and passion. The future is bright folks...

"Welcome to the terror dome!"

3 years for Reavis (unless he declares early) as he is a sophomore next year...

Yes, yes he did

If that had been at lane stadium, he would be wagging his finger right near where I sit. He would have also probably said "See me after class"

I expect a memorable career from Motuapuaka as well.

I believe he said that he's better than sweat. Looking forward to watching him prove it. Bud Foster looks out for his DEs stat books

BeamerBall.

Yep I remember that, after he said that Andrew Brown (the overrated DT at UVA, Oscar Smith Alum) started bashing him for saying it.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

Yeah, I remember that talk of being better than Sweat also. And I liked it. Now that Sweat is at FSU, I LOVE it!

Mook, Reavis, Trevon, etal...God, I love these kinds of players. They are just ready to go, ready to show somebody something, ready to do what it takes to earn admiration and respect...from the weight room, to the film room, from the practice field, all the way to the final whistle game day. Every day, all the time, just bringing it.

To me, that kind of attitude, when pulsing through the veins of an entire team, is the great equalizer, especially on the college level and below. We aren't likely to land top 5 classes. Hell, we never have landed even ONE. But with guys like this, IMHO, we don't necessarily need to.

A picture is worth a thousand words. A gif is worth a million.

Guys who talk are always trying to make themselves better, knowing they have to back it up or else. They have the attitude that no one will outwork them, and that talk gets them out of bed on cold mornings.

The talk reminds me of Exum, a tireless guy who came all the way back from knee surgery. He was even talking smack to his knee doctor! And of course ran the best day care eva!

"It's a Hokie takeover of The Hill ... in Charlottesville!" -Bill Roth

We really do need someone to take up the smack talk mantle left by Exum and Gayle.

I couldn't agree more: these young men impress the hell out of me. If you haven't checked out #OneHeartBeat15 on Twitter, you owe it to yourself. I don't know if this sort of thing usually happens and I just don't hear about it, but the recruits from this class are already thinking and acting like teammates.

"Our job as coaches is to influence young people's lives for the better in terms of fundamental skills, work ethic, and doing the right thing. Every now and again, a player actually has that effect on the coaching staff." Justin Fuente on Sam Rogers

thanks for the heads up on #OneHeartBeat15. here is a great example of what everyone is talking about from Hill

love it

This is EXACTLY what I want to see from kids we bring in because eventually with enough kids like Trevon that case won't be empty

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

Some call him Tim.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

"I am really excited to play with everyone who has the same mindset as me: "Winning" and not just winning by a little bit , but dominating teams on the field to make a statement to the entire country."

30 seconds left in the game, we're up by 2 scores, and have just run for a first down inside the red zone.

Trevon sounds like he wants to call a timeout in this situation.

He reminds me of my favorite sea lion.

Can't wait to see him lined up next to Settle in the future. God help whichever Offensive Linemen get assigned that side of the field against us.

Just went back and watched Hill's Hudl highlights again, 'cause, y'know, lab work is boring and stuff. Couldn't be more impressed. Once Gentry has had some time with him, he's gonna be an absolute monster. Might take a year or 2 to get there physically, but once he does, he's gonna be great. He's very active with his hands and he doesn't. rush. past. the. darn. QB. I absolutely love how violent and disciplined he is in his pass rush, and he's gonna make a heck of a lot of plays for us because of it.

Also remember those are mostly Junior highlights!

Sometimes, our DEs rush past the QB by design to force him up into the pocket where we are bring pressure. That being said, I can't speak for all of the other times we do it while rushing 4.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

I've seen it and heard Wiles say it numerous times that they're typically coached not to do that - just makes way too big of a running lane for mobile QBs. Sometimes Wiles/Bud will cut 'em loose and rotate a DT over to maintain containment, but generally speaking, rushing past the QB = bad.
