As loud as it has been in many many years. The students represented, the alums/donors represented. It was a foreshadowing of what we will (hopefully) see frequently 3-4 years from now. A great environment, a tough loss this time but lots of reasons for pride.

I know are team is young and learning Buzz's system, but why does it seem our point guard (s) are so timid and hesitant to make the pass inside or on the quick pick and roll?

UVA has arguably the best defense in the country this year.
They are #1 in scoring defense, allowing only 50.5 ppg.
#3 in scoring margin at 19.5 ppg win margin
The one defensive stat that they are not Top 50 in is that they allow 31% shooting from behind the arc. Being on fire without Bibbs from outside is going to be difficult. Smith and Johnston would both need to score 20+ to keep us in this game.
We can hope that the boys stay in this game but unless we find another gear today its probably going to be a painful afternoon.

except his son and granddaughter and anyone else who might have been further to the left. If I was a guy beamer's age, I'd probably want the seat on the aisle too, for, uh, convenience

Really sloppy at times but we are down 3 at half. We have done some things really well but need to adjust on others. They are eating us up inside which isn't unexpected but if we cut down on the turnovers, we will be in this to the end.

Those empty possessions when we could have taken the lead were just infuriating. We need to be prepared for UVA when they finally get on a run of points. It's going to happen eventually. I think if we weather that storm without letting them get too out front we can still be in a good position for the last two minutes.

You lose a year of eligibility, the year you are sitting out. Unless it is completely different for basketball. If you haven't yet, you can use your redshirt that year to keep the year of eligibility. Basketball players don't usually redshirt unless they are injured.

Sheesh. When that ball left his hands I thought he had it. I just made some really loud noises that weren't quite a language and I'm sure my neighbors are scared now.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: ACC teams better beat Buzz Williams now. Big talent upgrades coming to Blacksburg in 15-16.— Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) January 25, 2015

Be patient, dude. The boys fought their butts off for a full for 40 minutes against the number 2 team in the country without arguably their best player. Buzz is building something special here in Blacksburg.

Oh I'm patient. That's why I tailored my expectations for this team. I agree that Buzzketball will eventually be something special. But I also believe and am convinced there are zero such things as "moral victories".

Boom. This. Losing to UVA always sucks (I mean, our football, swimming and wrestling teams typically avoid it, but still), but that was one hell of an effort. At times they played great defense, they had some really good stretches on offense and those guys fought their tails off. I lost count of the number of times I saw guys sprint over to help their teammate off the floor. No one quit at any point in the game, and they almost knocked off a very, very good team. Long way to go, but Buzz is gonna put a heck of a unit out on the floor sooner rather than later.

I'm thinking that they were more in the "expecting to win" vs the "play then toe-to-toe" category. My hope for next season is that the team won't have as many scoring droughts late in the second half. Not trying to be a Buzzkill here.

It's been sooooooo long since I heard Cassell rock like it did today. The excitement and atmosphere in that place was like I hope will continue in the future. We played the #2 team down to the wire and gave them all they could handle. Yes, we could have won. The effort that Buzz generated in the boys today was second to none. Yes, we turned it over but so did the Hoos. We missed foul shots as usual but the let down after we got the first half back to a small margin did not happen until right after we got the 10 point lead. We had a few wrong guys shooting and we had a few right guys not shooting. Yes, we were a little too timid at trying to go inside. But overall, it was a great effort and even a few Hoo fans around us were praising some of the plays and passes that we had. There was a lot of hand wringing around us and it wasn't Hokie fans. The officiating seemed lacking here and there but overall it was a game that I went to thinking we would get blown out again and was treated to an exhibition of BuzzBall and want to see more of it. With no Joey, no Bibbs and our usual mess with the turnovers and foul shots, we still were in position to win.....

I saw the score on the bottomline but didn't see the game. Glad to hear the Cassell was rocking today.
Side note, I don't know who you are, stranger, but you name is awesome, you probably have the best turkey leg/donation ratio out of everyone, and I believe in you.

No Justin Bibbs again today. He must have really clocked his head hard.
So much for that upset
Cassell sounds loud today
Cassell was VERY loud today. My ears are still ringing
As loud as it has been in many many years. The students represented, the alums/donors represented. It was a foreshadowing of what we will (hopefully) see frequently 3-4 years from now. A great environment, a tough loss this time but lots of reasons for pride.
we haven't even tried to get the ball inside at all. even to go inside out
I know are team is young and learning Buzz's system, but why does it seem our point guard (s) are so timid and hesitant to make the pass inside or on the quick pick and roll?
It seems that way
3 pointer is the only way we have a chance, don't be timid.
Beautiful give and go
And our FT shooting woes continue. we look like a middle school team at the line
I would like to see us drive more and try and get some foul calls on them just to get them in foul trouble. It would open up some 3s on the dish too
Fairly solid hustle so far. UVA's D is stout. We just need to make those shots drop and make those friggin free throws.
Devin Wilson struggles to execute simple task of a point guard. Not sure if he is in the right position.
Who the hell schedules the commentators?
Cory Alexander is a uva alum, why was he assigned to this game. Bush move by the ACC Network.
OMG Amed Hill you had that!

We have started making opportunities to score, just not putting the ball in the basket with them right now. We have to stay aggressive.
Shane Beamer's daughter crying on TV. Classic
These blocking calls on us have been total bullshit
Only 7 scholarship players, even if Isiah Ford only put in a few quality minutes the breather for the starters would be beneficial.
when they panned to Frank and Shane and Shane's daughter was bawling, all I could think was "you and me both kid, this is gonna be a long game..."
We're down to 10 players. Any word on when Ford is joining the team?
Matter of if, not when.
Is Beamer there all by himself? It didn't look as if anyone around him knew who he was.
except his son and granddaughter and anyone else who might have been further to the left. If I was a guy beamer's age, I'd probably want the seat on the aisle too, for, uh, convenience
OMG ADAM SMITH SINK THEM THREES.
We are totally taking UVA out of their game. In this run
We need a Buzz gif of his reaction to the charge taken by devin wilson with 3:37 to go in the half
Pierce is trying to become my favorite player. Beautiful blocking to open up a hole on that Wilson rush...er layup
Hill plays so hard but he has made more mistakes than plays this game.

I love the effort of this team, but I have a bad feeling we are going to wear out in the 2nd half.
Can we get a gif of beamer in the game next to Shane and his grand daughter crying. Franks face was killing me
Mueller with the open brick
Did Bennet get a T before commercial break?
I don't think so.
Does Seth Allen have 2 years of eligibility left for the Hokies? I know he's sitting out this year, but will be a "junior" next year, too?
Yes.
He may be redshirting this year to get 2 more years. not sure tho
Nick - I wasn't sure if he redshirted at UMD. Just wanted to make sure.
I love everything and everyone right now. Holy damn.
You don't lose time when transferring, only have to sit out a year.
You lose a year of eligibility, the year you are sitting out. Unless it is completely different for basketball. If you haven't yet, you can use your redshirt that year to keep the year of eligibility. Basketball players don't usually redshirt unless they are injured.
I believe you are wrong, you have the same years of eligibility left but must sit one year.
This is correct. You just sit out a year. No loss of eligibility.
Buzz dance dot gif
Pink bouncy shoes gif please
I'm here....place is rockin and all the boohoos around me are silent like they should be. Just played HORSE ON A TREADMILL and I'm reppin my TKP shirt
You win at life. #HorseOnATreadmill
Are we in a 3-2 zone?
We have been yea. Think it helps negate the size advantage.
Holy crap that was hilarious watching Buzz flap up and down after Smith fired off that 3.
Smith looks like he is jacking up prayers when he shoots 3s but they have been going in. I wonder if he yells BUCKET when it is in the air
Wilson is fast. Fact
What a block by Henry!!!!!!
Is it just me or does Bennett look dejected?
Sabre melt down is getting good
We need to get back to attacking the rim on offense
Paging Adam Smith for a playground 3 ball.
Whelp
It was nice while it lasted.
Gonna need someone to step up
Too late. You can't finish with a W on 1/7 scoring drought. We knew they were gonna break down. It was inevitable.
I strongly disagree. We haven't broken down. We are seriously outgunned but we have done everything but break down.
Agree that we're outgunned, but my point still stands: can't walk away with the W on 1/7 drought with the game that close against the number 2 team.
What has happened? AHH
Shocker, FTs hurting us
Need either a 3 or 2 & 1. Statistical probability?
Clutch D there, guys. Alright you have 31.9 seconds left and down by 3. Adam Smith. We need you. Someone send up a batsignal or something.
Mueller had Johnston wide open for 3
And the statistical majority proves correct again.
SOOOO close
Sheesh. When that ball left his hands I thought he had it. I just made some really loud noises that weren't quite a language and I'm sure my neighbors are scared now.
Regardless...that was one hell of an effort and I feel a lot better about our chances of winning some ACC games that aren't ranked in the top 15 now.
Great game, confidence builder for the future. We are going to win some ACC games this year.
How many?
The only true confidence builder would be a W. Some glaring issues that still haven't been addressed.
Be patient, dude. The boys fought their butts off for a full for 40 minutes against the number 2 team in the country without arguably their best player. Buzz is building something special here in Blacksburg.

Seeing that you can play and beat anyone in the country isnt a confidence booster? riiiiight

Is Isaiah Ford still gonna join the MBB team?
prolly not
how do you feel about this loss? girl or Beamer?
https://vine.co/v/OTbeaumPg3T
That is his granddaughter, Shane's middle child.
yes, I know....
Why on earth did Johnston pass up the wide open 3 on the second to
Last possession?!
I think Buzz was asking him the same question.
You're asking all the right questions,
I think he was lacking some confidence being 0-for on the day
Va was an 18.5 point favorite, we almost pulled off an upset. I know the object is to win but this WAS a confidence builder.
