The Virginia Tech basketball team came so close to winning the first ACC game of the Buzzketball Era against Virginia on Sunday. Against Pittsburgh this evening, the hardwood Hokies snapped its 7-game losing streak, and head coach Buzz Williams earned ACC win number one. Virginia Tech last won an ACC basketball game on Feb 15, 2014 (Miami).
This team has experienced every growing pain imaginable this season, but they've continued to grind. Finally it paid off. It's been trying to watch, and there's a long way to go, but as a fan this one feels good. As such, let's celebrate with GIFTORY.
By virtue of his 6 of 11 downtown mark, 26 points and clutch shooting, Adam Smith is getting the spotlight treatment.
Splash.

Dish, dish in the sink.

Hand in the face? It doesn't matter.

Onions I

And the dagger angle.

Wonder what Buzz thought?

Onions II

And the dagger angle.

Count it.

Smith was unconscious.
After seeing Buzz all game, wouldn't surprise me if he was as well.
It appears as though Buzz enjoys utilizing Cassell Coliseum as his second wardrobe.
"And averaging three different button-up shirts per game, please welcome Mr. Buzz Williams!"
Officially proposing the nickname Adam "Three Market" Smith
I just want to make sure its pointed out... with the game on the line at Regulation and OT... from the center court logo. Onions. Nothin but net.
From the goddamn center court logo! TWICE!!!!!
I'm not sure I've ever seen clutch shooting from that kind of range in Cassell before. Ever. Those were waaaaay beyond NBA 3 range. That was MTV Rock n Jock 4 point play range.
+1 for Rock n Jock reference
I missed the game, so I went looking for highlights. Here's what I found of Adam Smith.
Holy shit I can see me!!! Im in the black Nike Combat 34 Jersey and painted face!!

My 15 minutes of fame were Buzz's first ACC win and the second to last gif I'm the one putting my arms up before it goes in!
Haven't seen clutch 3s falling like that at Cassell since Zabian Dowdell rocked it.
I was thinking the same thing about where Zabian hit the shot to beat Duke, but he was a little closer to the Tech bench and a hell of a lot closer to the basket. THAT SHOT from Smith was from Roanoke!
Don't forget AD used to light it up.
malc was no sloutch at busting 3s in peoples eyes either
I was think further back than Zabian Dowdell. More like Travis Jackson via 1995. I was at that game at the age of 11 with my dad.
Edit: Man I can't wait till Cassell Coliseum is packed like this with our crazy fans again. Talk about Home Court Advantage!
right between the eyes!!!! *kevin harlan voice!
(if i was more computer savy i would have tried to do this with adam smith!)
I need an Onions explanation, I missed where this came from...
Bill Raftery
Is it a shot so sweet it will make you cry or something?
That was my thought behind it but apparently there is a strong theory it means something a little more "inappropriate for tv" which I think is funny. Good Old Bill Raftery!!

Thank you. I was unfamiliar with 'Onions' as well.
Uh, no.
Love the win. But looks like Cassell is a tad bit empty? Is it weather reasons?
Shouldn't be. It was just a bit cold, nothing falling from the sky.
I regret not going, I need to make a better effort to get to the games while I'm still living in town. Tough to motivate myself to go do anything after work sometimes though.
It was pretty late on a Tuesday night. Unless you're a hardcore fan or live in town, that's a hard trip to make, getting out of work and then getting home to get up early again the next day.
Unfortunately it's more likely "program that was a dumpster fire the last two seasons and hadn't yet won a game in 2015" reasons. I love the direction Buzz is taking the program already but considering the perception of VT basketball and proximity to major alumni population areas, it will take a couple seasons to build the fanbase even back to the point it was during the height of the Greenberg era.
I was waiting for the nets to catch fire nba jam style
Could go with Gus Johnson on this one. Adam Smith was "pure" from DT last night.
