I suppose the answer to my thread question is that no one really knows, but screw that. Do you think is it a good or bad sign that we don't have answers yet? Who would you most like to see and why?
I want someone who can coach the position and recruit ANY position.

The rumor is it's Zohn Burden and we're holding off announcing because he's the primary recruiter for 11 of ODU's verbal commits. Take that with a grain of salt, but definitely sounds like a Beamer move.
It does sound like a Beamer move.
And if its true, he better hope that the Hokies don't lose a recruit or two because of not filling a spot that could be out there helping close the deal leading into signing day.
I don't think that would be the case given who we are expecting, but this "nice guy" stuff only works when the program isn't mired in mediocrity. This isn't a rant by any means, but I don't think it's too much to ask for a head coach to be looking out for their own program first and foremost.
The other side of that coin...
If this is a move made at the request of Burden (we're now getting into hypotheticals within hypotheticals) then I think we're getting exactly the kind of coach that will serve the interests of the program well. AMo wasn't too worried about his departure's effect on this recruiting cycle. Just saying.
I think you may be wrong about AMo. His depature left plenty of time for the coaches and commits to digest the change.
Or to get indigestion over it. Thankfully it appears none of his targets are wavering in their verbal (knock on wood) but competing programs had all the time in the world to call up our recruits and say, "Hey, I noticed your guy's in Texas now..."
This isn't a knock on AMo. Business is business, and aTm isn't gonna do unto AMo as we are (hypothetically) doing unto Zohn. But if we're embracing the rumor, we've got a tale of two attitudes here: "Opportunity knocks, and I'm off and up out," vs "Getting the call from the bigs, but asking to get the last out in the bottom of the ninth for your AAA club." One sounds like a decidedly more Hokie mindset than the other.
We might fall up in this is all I'm saying.
The other, other side of that coin... it's pretty dishonest to recruit kids to your school (kids who might go elsewhere if you weren't going to be their coach) when you know you're gonna bounce immediately after signing day.
He could have requested the time to let the kids know that he was leaving, the other other other dark side of that coun.
are you telling me there's a 4-sided coin?
Well, there are 4-sided dice. The triangular pyramid has a corner for each outcome.

Or you could flip the same coin twice and have a 2-bit binary number.
nerd out
Roll a saving throw vs petrification.
I shall risk sounding the P5 elitest here.
If a kid is going to commit to ODU, chances are he's the level of player that's getting mid-major and FCS offers. Does it suck that Zohn might be gone right after they sign? Depends entirely on how Zohn handles it with his recruits. But it isn't like these kids could have gone to Alabama or Oregon if Burden left now. With or without Burden, ODU is still going to be one of the better , on the rise mid-majors in the country and the kids who commit there are also going to get a pretty good education. So if true, the move doesn't strike me as dishonest or sleazy. It means Zohn believes in the program and the school even if he's not going to be there.
Where did you hear that? Not questioning you just wondering because this is the first time I have heard that rumor.
I'm definitely not claiming #sources or anything, I've heard it mentioned a couple times on here, TSL and 247. It makes sense, but could be completely off the mark.
If they're holding off so ODU can sign their guys, then good for ODU, But what about the 11 kids? If I'm them, I would rather find out now.
Who do I want? I think you put it best...
Don't care who, just want whoever it is to do that. If taking our time gets us that, well worth the wait.
That's quite a Burden you're placing on the new guy's shoulders.
Just b/c he's new to VT doesn't (and shouldn't) mean he's new to coaching/recruiting. Any coach we hire should be able to step in and do his job.
swing and a miss GIF? (I still have no clue how to do that)

EDIT: I never knew Jim Weaver was in Get Smart.
Cmon man, why ya gotta call out Stevie?
ugh... this gif always kills me. Messi up and stay on your damn feet. If you weren't such a hack maybe you could have retained possession and kept the ball in striking position.
Hack isn't the first word I associate with Gerrard. He's certainly lost some of his ability as he's gotten older, but he can still thread the needle with the perfect amount of weight.
He's been falling to the ground since he got to the Premiere League. Whether be diving or "slipping"...
He's a good player, better than most, but still a hack.
EDIT: So my first try didn't work. my second one did. Thanks!

Nice one....you are really in the Zohn today...
I think we'll see a hire between national signing day (Feb. 4) and our Junior day (Feb. 7). It certainly sounds like we're close to signing someone.
I don't think this hurts us right now. We're pretty much done outside of 2 guys and neither of those are areas where a WR coach would matter. I certainly don't believe that we're gonna lose anyone because of not filling the position early. Would definitely like to get it done before junior day though.
As for who, I would like either Burden or Dugans out of the available options.
I personally would like an announcement sooner rather than later. I don't see any upside to waiting to make the announcement.
Ron Dugans looks intense, anybody see the offensive version of Bud Foster in him or is it just me? Some pics of him on google just make me think "I would not want to drop a pass and walk off the field having that stare aimed at me!"
