One Recruit Perceptions : Last Season

I was looking over some of the recruiting info on 247sports since it's signing day, and one thing caught my eye about an offer we extended to a 2016 recruit, Emmanuel Belmar. It was this quote concerning being offered by VT:

"It feels pretty good," Belmar told 247Sports. "My dad spoke to them and they talked to my coach."
What does the 6-foot 2-inch prospect think of the Hokies?
"It's a very good school and they beat the national champions," he said.

Now I know there has been plenty of back and fourth about this past season, but it's amazing what beating OSU has done for some of the perceptions.

Thought I would share.

That game was the happiest I've ever been watching the Hokies

I rewatch it every couple weeks off the DVR. its beautiful

I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I went back and rewatched it on ESPN3's sky cam version. Oh man, if you haven't checked that out, it is a must. Best Experience from you couch. You get the whole field and actually see how many positions Sam Roger's played that day from your own seat.

Epic. Totally different view on the game of football by watching this feed. The lack of annoying commentators, and the additional shots over the sidelines and over the huddle give new insight into what's going on during a game. For example on the normal TV feed the only time Coach Beamer is shown is when he's staring at the LOS or at an official... looking very passive and disengaged. In this view you can see how much he's actually talking to the other coaches and to the players.

Seeing the field and the formations from something close to the QB's perspective is pretty amazing too.

Thanks. Just posting to find this later.

Posting for later.

Glad to see a big win impressing future recruits!

If beating OSU once is having an impact like this on some recruits' perception of us then imagine what beating them in back to back seasons would do.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Being a bookend for their winning streaks would be nice. Plus, we can start the season with another set of Mission Accomplished shirts.

You know what... screw it... if it means we get another win over Ohio State, I'll take the damn shirts

I'd much rather see the "Mission Accomplished" shirts come out when Coach Beamer brings the Golden Vagina to Blacksburg for the case that it belongs in.

That's the only time I want to see those shirts again.

No, no. That shirt says

If we beat Ohio State again, I'm not going to get too picky on how we choose to celebrate it...

Grand scheme of things, those shirts last year were the least of our worries.

How about "Who's Next" but instead of Goldberg, maybe Bud Foster.. Just brainstorming it up!

I have to ask... did you have this slogan in mind and come across the shirt or did you already know this shirt existed and specifically look for it?

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

he had to pull it out of his closet, but yeah

I remember watching his undefeated streak in slusher wing.

It will send me to the hospital after 4 hours.

Emmanuel?

Didn't he star in a bunch of HBO shows back in the day?

Ha, maybe Cinemax

Hey not sure where to post this, but anyway you guys could start up a string on who our next commits might be for 2016. It seems every year that a few guys from the next year's class commit right after signing day (half of them end up changing their mind), but who is on the radar?

There is a junior day this weekend at VT (usually is soon after signing day) so anyone who is visiting this weekend is on commit watch.

GIVE IT TO ME ROSCOE!

Like Michael Barnett, Ashton White or Marcus Lewis?

YES, book-ending their championship run with another loss would be some great recruiting material.

"That's right, we did it twice. Yes, we would gladly do it a third time, but they are not on our schedule for 2016. Instead, we will be seeing Tennessee in front of 160,000+ at Bristol and visiting Notre Dame."

"Where do I sign?"

A couple of other recruits have mentioned this as well, mostly 2016 guys. Recruits love playing in big games and big wins.

A little surprised more '16 recruits aren't mentioning the Battle at Bristol. Then again, it's still early.

Seeing how Bristol isn't exactly a metropolis, I wonder how aware the average recruit is of The Battle at Bristol. I can see how the atmosphere and sheer magnitude of the event might not be readily apparent if you haven't been to a NASCAR race. It's obviously an epic event for VT and UT fans and I get that ESPN touted it when first announced, but it's definitely not something I come across watching sports, looking at scores, or reading articles online.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

My OSU fan relatives have continually sent me websites OSU has created with x'd out VT logos and countdown clocks for "payback". I just sit back and enjoy the memories in the shoe every time I see them. They still can't take it away from us!

@vtscottyb

yeah, this. Even if by some miracle OSU does win next year that will in no way ever negate the fact that we house'd them on their national title year.

Yes but I kind-of want that hunger for us too....get our players motivated to destroy them.

Show them their hype stuff and say:

"They're out hunting....but do they know who the prey is?"

(i dunno -- i'm spitballin')

"They're out hunting....but do they know who the prey is?"

Saw this and thought of something like this, with OSU being the hunter and us being the bear...

Hunting

Come hunting for trouble and you're likely to find it....

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

reminds me slightly of this:

Deer eating sleeping hunter's lunch

Back story that the deer doesn't realize:

The night before going hunting the man had a big argument with his wife about the hunting trip, she wanted him to go antiquing with her. The argument ended with him saying "I'm going to bed so I'm not too tired to hunt tomorrow." This of course left her highly upset. She thought long and hard about the perfect way to get back at him. Finally, it came to her.

When he woke up in the morning the wife was nowhere to be found. Looking around he found a note on the refrigerator that said that she was so sorry about the fight last night that she had made him a special lunch and had called a friend and they had already left to go antiquing. Thinking nothing of it he picked up the lunch and left to go hunting.

When he ate his lunch he never noticed the sleeping pills she had mixed into his food. Which caused him to fall asleep, and miss seeing the biggest buck of his life.

Now the damn deer is going to ruin the wife's revenge by eating some of the same food. Won't the hunter be surprised to wake up and find that deer curled up beside him asleep! If only the deer had known the whole story, he would likely survive this situation, but alas, that is not to be.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

A copy of this sign came up when I was looking for the image I had posted originally and gave me a bit of a chuckle.

Warning Baiting Deer is Illegal. This corn pile is intended for squirrels, chipmunks and other such animals. Any deer found eating this corn will be shot!
