Good article, Andy! It will be interesting to see how they break up the recruiting assignments. I got to believe they keep Burden in the 757.

Hey guys, that was a good article, really did a good job with keeping attrition down, after having some guys flip early (white, lewis, barnett).

One note, didnt marcus lewis commit to VT last spring, and then commit to Florida, then almost Kentucky before ending up with FSU?

Yup. I combined him and White in my mind, since they're so similar. I updated the post.

Tech signed four players from Florida, its most since 2011. This coaching staff, plus the recruiting personnel it hired, has expanded those southern ties. Stacy Searels used to coach at Georgia and LSU and recruits the South often. Scot Loeffler was at Florida for a couple years. Charley Wiles and Torrian Gray recruit Florida as part of their territory. Cantor was at Florida State and Georgia previously and Guerry at Georgia, so there's a southern trend.

This really demonstrates the refocusing of VT recruiting and then you add in Coach Zohn's strong ties to VA's hotbed of talent in the 757, and the Hokies otherwise command of the state and things really look great for the future.

The area I wish we hit harder was NC. Sure, not exactly a hotbed of top talent, but given our proximity, I would like us to make more of a name for ourselves there. And they tend to have a handful of solid players each year, just as VA does.

I would agree with this 100%. Back in the early 90's when I was in high school in NC, I didn't have any idea where Blacksburg was in Virginia other than the "mountains", which I just assumed was near Charlottesville! Seriously, there was no buzz about VT in NC until after Vick. Then we started getting trickles here and there, mainly from the Fayetteville & Rocky Mount areas. Then they joined the ACC which really has increased VTs presence on TV in the NC markets. There is talent, but it's in pockets. I would really like to see more guys from the Raleigh-Durham area and Charlotte come into the fold.

This is how Tennessee got a lot of talent during the Fullmer years. A lot of those great teams had some key contributors and depth from NC.

Don't know if this is the right thread for this comment; but I was listening to sports talk radio in the Pittsburgh area this morning and the hosts were all over Louisville for pulling an offer from a kid in SC who had been a loyal commit for over a year. Basically stopped talking to anyone else. Looks like he's going to end up at a smaller school because the P5 schools don't have any room. Glad I have not heard any stories like that about Tech.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Then there's a story like this: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/mike-weber-s-hs-coach-sa...

Basically OSU waiting until after signing day to announce that their RB Coach took a job with the Bears and the recruit/HS coach aren't happy about it.

Welcome once again to the dark side of college football recruiting. We get on the kids a lot for not sticking to their commitments or even looking around a bit (Mook and Gaines come to mind as causing the biggest stirs around here), but it's easy to see why when there are schools out there that treat their players like that. Good on that HS coach for saying Petrino will never recruit another one of his guys again. I couldn't be happier we have a coach who actually cares about people as human beings.

It's unfortunate that it took this incident for the HS coach to finally figure out that Petrino is a scumbag.

So what's the scoop on Jawon Pass? Do we have a good shot at picking him up?
