I must say for as much as Mama Giraffe put me off the ACC blog, Andrea has done a good job bringing my interest back. I wouldn't say this is a very well researched article, in fact it only superficially broaches the topic of it's headline but it's well written and devoid of bias.

I guess it's not surprising that there is now and will be in future negative recruiting against Beamer given his age, but I would love to hear who the worst culprits are.
EDIT: I took out my speculation on which coaches. suffice to say even living on the other side of the world I hear things from #sources, and know first hand knowledge from L'ville. It's a shame some programs hire people like this to lead young men, but it makes me even more proud that Hokies do things right.

Who the fuck was that Vincent d*kturd Joseph troll with the idiotic all caps post? Sorry, but damn.
No kidding. Not sure how a site saying we have the 25th ranked (or whatever it was) recruiting class makes us overrated. And how being ranked for all of about 2 weeks made us overrated as well. Tardio.
Now, now, I'm sure his sheer football expertise led his boys to another super bowl win... /s
Is saying dickturd considered more offensive than saying fuck now?
Lesson #1: Never read the comments section
Don't feed the trolls.
Loved this quote from a Miami fan in the comments.
Pissed VT Stole away Dwayne Lawson the Great Dual Threat QB Golden Found in BAMA but Kaaya will be fine.
Protip: Don't read ESPN comments. They're blocked for me at work, ostensibly because they're linked to Facebook and Facebook is blocked. I think it's because my work filter actually understands what garbage ESPN commenters are.
Literally all ESPN comments these days are people insulting each other. I rarely read them, but definitely regret it when I do.
ESPN comments have totally gone downhill since they teamed up with FACESPACE and kicked most of the ACCylum out...
Yuuuuuuuuuup
Jump
Holy crap FACESPACE!!! So random comment here but a guy I used to work with who was probably in his late 40's used the exact same term when referring to Facebook once. He was dead serious and was talking about young soldiers and such (I'm in the Army) and said "...they put all that crap on Facespace or whatever it's called." I about died laughing.
Typical Army stealing from da Navy ;)
I've heard folks refer to it as FAKEBOOK so much that I've picked up on it. If you think about it, that's what it really is.
Haha, I like fakebook. Myself, I refer to "facebooking" as "facef*#king".
She strikes me as the kind of girl who knows exactly what he's talking about
Fakebook used to be reserved for fictional characters who had a Facebook account. Back in the day before they cracked down on stuff like that.
I still have a fake account on facebook. Unfortunately facebook is required for a lot of stuff on the net nowadays. So I made a fake email to get a fake account.
I always think people are talking about the Yo La Tengo people when I hear that term...and then I realize I am way off base.
It's alright, the BL & ACCylum is a much better setup.
no kidding. Its hilarious that it took PF about 2 days to code the exact same system ESPN used for comments, just without all the bugs ESPN had with theirs.
Couple years later, and its lightyears better than it used to be.
I really ought to come by more, even outside football season. But, life beckons.
Agreed. The site has a nice setup, but the content turned into garbage. Went from sports to part Google hangout part Craigslist part dating site. Once I found TKP I haven't been back.
It seems, then, like it doesn't matter where you go, people are more apt to speak bad about someone else than talk about their selling points. I'm sure as teenagers, recruits haven't gotten sick, yet, of political campaigns that do the same thing.
After having to put up with that from politics, as well as job searches, I know I'd take one look at that coach that started on that and tell him where he can stick it.
So I read this article and saw the author said there were negative recruiting tactics going against us, but then didn't elaborate on the point. There were no quotes from anyone talking about any negative recruiting going on against us, nor did the author attempt to clarify what they actually meant by negative recruiting tactics. The phrase 'negative recruiting' appearing in the article title made me think we'd hear about...negative recruiting. But no such information was presented.
Shun this article. Click bait title. Content regurgitated from sources we've already read.
We owned the ACC for years and in the last few seasons we've fallen off. There are questions about Beamer's future and his health. We've seen two of our better position coaches leave for greener pastures.
These aren't comfortable topics, but negative recruiting happens EVERYWHERE no matter what coaches say or fans believe.
Any time you see a journalist use the word "DESPITE" in a headline or the first paragraph, there is a very high likelihood they are going to follow a pre-determined and biased -- yet contradictory and illogical -- premise for their story.
One, every school negative recruits against other schools. That other programs may be pointing out Frank Beamer's age and potential longevity is neither news nor indicative of its effectiveness.
Two, if this were even a worthy premise, why does this year's class rank pretty much where every VT class for the last 8 or 10 years has ranked?
Three, as Andy Bitter's blog illustrated today, 81 of the 128 current FBS coaches were hired after Signing Day 2011. So 63% of players finishing their 5th season in 2015 will be playing for a coach that was hired AFTER they signed their LOI in 2011.
Virtually every head & asst coach is potentially 2 years away from being fired. And those who don't get fired are at high "risk" of moving on somewhere else.
Do folks think that VT hasn't pointed this out to counter other programs' negative recruiting -- and particularly this year when recruiting against, say, UNC, UVa, or Miami?
The better question is: I wonder how many current FBS & ACC coaches Beamer will outlast?
If they have to recruit against us and be negative, it means we are doing something right and getting the interest of some talented recruits. Keep it up, Frank.
So when you click on the links of Austin Clark's and Tyrell Smith's names, it takes you to the player profiles of a senior defensive tackle at Cal and a sophomore O lineman at UMass, respectively.
Glad to see the ACC blog maintaining the level of excellence that Heather Dinich set as the standard.
They hate us cause they ain't us.
