Hokies Wrestling Team Set to Take on Clarion at Cassell Coliseum

The Virginia Tech wrestling team will take on Clarion Sunday at Cassell Coliseum. The match is slated for a 7 o'clock start. For those of you who have never watched the Hokies before, or just need some relief after the Orange Bowl and the UNC loss, then come to the Cassell Sunday night. My favorite thing about the wrestling matches at Cassell is that admission is FREE. Also, hokiesports.com has a VT tote bag giveaway on the schedule for the first 300 fans in attendance.

Clarion is off to a fast start this season. They are 2-0 in dual meets this season with wins over Princeton and Edinboro. They also won the PSAC Team Title at Bloomsburg on December 4th. Clarion always wrestles a competitive schedule and the Golden Eagles have a talented team led by fifth year coach Teague Moore.

The Hokies are coming off of a strong showing at the NWCA National Duals, where they finished 2nd to top-ranked Cornell. After that performance the Hokies vaulted from a #12 ranking, to a #4 ranking. In my opinion, Virginia Tech should be ranked #3 as Wisconsin, whom the Hokies took down in the duals, are ranked ahead of them at #3. Clarion only has one wrestler ranked in the top-20 therefore; the key matchup for the night will be at 149 pounds as #18 James Fleming of Clarion (20-4) takes on #8 Brian Stephens (19-6) for the Hokies. The Hokies come in with seven wrestlers of their ten weight classes ranked in the top-20.

This is a great opportunity to check out the Hokies against the Clarion Golden Eagles. The best part is, you just show up to Cassell and sit down and enjoy watching the Hokies wrestling team. Come out and show some support for the #3, err #4, ranked Virginia Tech Hokies wrestling team.

"I had 12 frat guys who thought they were wrestlers five years ago," said Dresser, previously the head coach at Christiansburg High School.

At what point do we ask Dresser to toughen up the offensive line? I can't wait for Miller to play.

Toughing Up the Offensive Line

Just going through Dresser's daily practices is enough to toughen up anybody. As a freshman in high school, my wrestling team went to practice with Christiansburg one day and that was quite possiblly the toughest physical test I have ever put on my body. Dresser demands 100% in his practice room, so I think Miller's toughness will be evident in every game, believe that.

We need 4 more Millers

I don't know much about wrestling but I do enjoy the talk about it. I never wrestled except in my college days with one of my roommates that wrestled at Robinson High. I think I finished my time at Va Tech with a 0-83 record. I am awful at it. I do know Clarion is good. After college I lived back home in Pittsburgh for a while. My roommate went to Clarion and told me many stories about their wrestling matches and rivalry with Edinboro. I hope Tech keeps winning and Miller keeps getting more and more mean. Our Oline could use some just-less-than-Nick-Fairley meanness.
