VT President Sands tweeted to Whit that Metallica should play on Labor Day

How great is the VT President.

Can't get it to show up except the link, sorry.

I really want to read too far into this tweet, because that would be insanely awesome.

I know it takes a lot of planning, money, etc. to get Metallica to do it, but I am surprised this hasn't happened yet. We got them to do a personal message before Enter Sandman, but this would be unreal. If I needed another reason to dish out a lot of money to go to this game....

Bleeding burnt orange and chicago maroon

There's also a football signed by all members of Metallica sent personally to Frank Beamer. If anyone asks me how I know this I'll deny every being in Blacksburg.

Rip his freaking head off!

If I recall, a student's dad worked with them and got them to do the pre-game video. Maybe we could revisit that avenue.

Any moderators with the power to edit want to embed the tweet for me? Apparently I can't do that on my iPhone.

No idea if this will actually happen. But if guys like Sands and Whit are tweeting it, the possibility goes up. They don't just say things like this publicly for the heck of it.

He could easily walk down the hall and ask him face-to-face without the public knowledge.

We put the K in Kwality

First of all, kudos to Sands on the tweet. Second of all, those girls rock! How old are they, 8-14? Sheesh! If I could jam like that on the gee-tar, I'd walk around like I've got an "S" on my chest! And the drummer? Wow! Great job! Rock on, you rockers...

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

Could you imagine being 15 and performing for 66k+ screaming, crazed fans? Life-changing moment right there.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

I was walking (stumbling?) down Bourbon St. the night before the '05 Sugar Bowl when some mediocre band was talked into playing Sandman. Bourbon Street erupted and I've got to think that was the pinnacle of that band's existence.

Those girls are awesome!
They should be proud of the job they did covering this.
I need to teach my daughter to play guitar.
Oh wait...I don't play guitar.
I need to HIRE someone to teach my daughter how to play guitar.

If only there was someone on this board, someone who loved VT and guitars and openly declared it. Maybe someone that was really active on here. I just can't think of anyone off the top of my head...

Hmm... where'd that Bender guy go? He always seemed pretty even-keeled and probably would be pretty good with kids. Wonder if he's still around and has any musical talent.

Well, I guess we'll never know. It's just too hard to find a good VT fan who loves guitar and may or may not be a man. Might as well write this one off. That little girl ain't learnin' guitar anytime soon...

It's a shame, someone like that would probably be a good guy to rate mods.

This is awesome and damn if the Sandsman and Whit aren't close to making me stalk them professionally, rather than adore them from afar.

If Metallica plays the half it better come with pyrotechnics, fireworks and them riding a flying mechanical jellyfish out of the stadium.

Question for everyone though. I have always thought that they cut the song off too early and abruptly during the entrance. Maybe that's just me but as soon as they start running out it's a hard cut off. I would love to hear it fade away to crowd noise as the players are running out. Anyone else ever have that feeling?

Agreed. I know they want the band to play and all, but I'd rather them play Metallica just a little bit longer and let it fade.

Don't tell Horse...

No, no... they enter on the 4 Horses-on-a-treadmill of the Apocalypse and leave on the flying mechanical jellyfish

They actually did that this year. It was played about 15 seconds longer than they have in the past and it made a pretty big difference

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

awesome. what game was that?

Miami. Sandman was the only good thing about that game...

VT '10 #AllMaroonEverything

Oh right, ...we played Miami last year...

Ugh

Ok, this is EXACTLY how the music should be. Carried through the entire process. Just get rid of the announcer. Let the moment be the moment. Everyone knows it's the Hokies. Just let the music play to 65k fans jumping and losing their minds.

thanks for the video

It kills me to hear them rave about the Lane atmosphere only to know we don't have a home Thursday night game this year. We've played the most games of any school in the nation on Thursdays on ESPN and it feels like they're trying to strip us of a tradition.

It all fairness we have not really performed well on Thursday nights the last few years, you need to earn those prime time games...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

IIRC, they started doing that consistently, rightfully so.

please no...

We should do it to troll LOLUVA next time they're at Lane.

If it were to ever happen, which it won't, it would be this game. Great tweet and the perfect way for our president to engage.

For some reason I don't think Steger would have ever reached out to Weaver in this fashion. Also, how crazy is it to think that we've gone from Steger/Weaver to Sands/Babcock in a couple of quick years. That gets lost from time to time. I have the utmost respect for what both Weaver and Steger accomplished and not making a swipe at either, but just find their replacements perfect for where the university is currently.

Very true, for their time both Steger and Weaver did an amazing job. As much as we might gripe about Weaver and some of his actions, he built enough of a kitty for Frank to get all of the facilities he ever wanted and for Whit to be able to get Buzz.

Steger and Weaver were right for their times. (Though I believe Weaver hung on too long.) And Sands and Whit are perfect for this moment. Our best days are ahead, athletically and academically.

Got a "grass roots" campaign that started the day after Ohio State won the National Championship. If you have a Facebook account , please check out "Enter Metallica to Lane Stadium". It would be monumental to have Metallica at arguably the biggest game EVER at Lane Stadium.

Neat.

Don't worry, ain't no mechanical jellyfish gonna hold me down.

Yes, that comment should be plaid. 1/3 of your turkey legs on a single post, nicely done

Maybe Metallica should play the BristolBowl instead.

Yeah, Metallica, Enter Sandman, Lane Stadium... that's all fine and good. However, we have a major concern about the Labor Day game. It's Orange Effect. Dr Sands needs to tweet out about how the team should probably not actually wear orange unis, because bad things happen.

Leonard. Duh.

The last Monday night, Labor Day, Orange Effect game worked out alright. 20-17 over GT. Although, let's hope that the 2015 season turns out better than 2012...

And 2013...and 2014...

Because things went so well the last time we eliminated as much orange as possible at night in Lane....

Still not as big a fan of orange as I am of those all maroon jerseys. I could even do without the shoulder stripes... ohboyanotheruniformcomment...

With the orange, I'm mostly thinking about Duke in 2013. And sadly, I will have to throw my support behind shelving AME for awhile. Maroon top/white pants work for me.

Leonard. Duh.

I've always thought the stadium actually looks really cool when everyone's in orange. Seems to pop more on the TV screen and in pictures. Just not so much a fan of the orange jerseys (and so help us, the orange pants....).

I agree, the orange effect works much, much better than the maroon effect IMO

Personally I was more pissed last year when Louisville came out in Black Uniforms to Enter Sandman against Miami.

If we can't get Metallica for Labor Day 2015 than I say we get them for home game against Notre Dame Oct 13, 2018 more time for Whit to get this done.

And no matter who we play against if Metallica is there live we go in our Black Uniforms.

I actually liked those uniforms and aren't ashamed to admit it.

Metallica playing Enter Sandman live at Bristol as we take the field....

That would be epic... and its totally 100% something Bruton Smith would try to do

Spot on about Bruton Smith. That man is all about putting on a show and has the deep pockets to pay Metallica to come out.

I wonder who would play "Rocky Top" for them...the Rednex?

How am I just now seeing this? BEARD SAYS YES

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

I don't know if anyone else went to the Concert for Valor, but Metallica played Enter Sandman. It is face-meltingly awesome live.

My son took a guitar class at school. Everyone had to play a solo. While everyone else is fumbling twinkle twinkle, Jack stepped up the game with Sandman. Not as good as the girls, but a proud Hokie Dad moment anyway! Here's the link:

We may not be able to get Metallica for the game....but maybe we can get these guys?
I promise you....just make it to the 56 second mark and it will be worth it to you.

Here they are:

Have you thought about seeking professional help? :)

These guys ARE professionals.

Thats the version they use down in South Beach for their entrance. Works so well with the smoke...

In a related story, this is the version they use at LOLUVa

Almost spit coffee everywhere during the guitar solo. This is perfect. They should actually do this, but have Dave Matthews sing it while everyone enjoys their Cab Sauv and gouda pairing.

I don't what it is but all I keep thinking about when I saw this Tweet between Babcock and Sands is this...
