Anthony Shegog was first one to sign. I really hope he becomes a contributor, because his name is so awesomely Lovecraftian. Photoshop a football helmet on Cthulhu or something
holland fischer 4 minuters after him, cant wait to see that dude decapitate someone.
I have no idea what Lovecraftian and Cthulhu means. Sounds like something out of my 9 year old's Pokemon card set.
Cthulhu was a fictional monster created by author H.P. Lovecraft
Something about being part human, part dragon, part giant octopus, and a hundred meters tall or something.
Lovecraft created a blend of horror and fantasy that is called "weird fiction", a lot of which goes along the same lines.
This is Cthulhu
I knew the name sounded familiar
I was definitely remembering the South Park episode.
Dark Lord Cthulhu
"Passengers waiting for flight 73 to New Orleans, we thank you for your patience, but the conditions in the Gulf are still delaying our departure. Unfortunately, we've just been informed that the dark lord Cthulhu has shat on the runway at the New Orleans airport, and we'll be delayed at least another hour."
“This time they appear to have unleashed the dark and mighty Cthulhu. The rise of Cthulhu from another dimension brings about 3000 years of darkness Tom, where we will be driven to madness and made to serve as Cthulhu’s cultist slaves.”
“Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn.”
“Praise the Dark Cthulhu! Long may he reign!”
One of the best series of episodes of South Park.....
Hey now guys. Enough with the weirdness
Has It Stopped?
WTF? It's been over an hour since the last LOI. Late sleepers????
Brandon Facyson
Of course i am excited about Fischer, Fuller and the top recruits but I am really excited about Brandon Facyson. He seems like a class act. That is huge, a true student athlete that isn't afraid of hard work. He is a great athlete and I feel like he is going to compete right away.
He sounds like a really ambitious young man, and I wish him all the best.
Parker Osterloh
6'8" 301...
Holy shit. Haven't seen film on him but just those vitals are exciting.
Don't blow your load too soon
We'll have to wait and see
Too late
Load blown...
McLaughlin
Osterloh looks like a pretty good prospect, but Jonathan McLaughlin impresses me more. Either way, at least they're not tight ends that need converting.
He also played basketball for his HS which shows some athleticism for such a big guy. I'm excited about him
injury
Not too sure I want any of these guys playing basketball after what happened to Exum
and
He will now be referred to as Parker mOnsterloh
Kyle Chung has signed.
He's listed by Virginia Tech as 6-4 280, his Rivals.com profile previously listed him at 6-4 255. I thought he'd project to guard, and looks like he is on his way. I'm going to assume his dad, Eugene, has him on a nice strength and conditioning plan.
Love the UVA bashing
I enjoy seeing people's comments on why they chose VT on Hokiesports. Especially Deon Newsome “It felt like the right thing to do. It’s not far from home. It was down to UVa and Tech, and I didn’t want to go to UVa.” Makes it a pretty easy decision when he puts it like that!
I enjoyed Torrian Gray's comments on Wyatt Teller
Saying that Wyatt was getting a lot of interest from "another school in Virginia".
I'm excited about these true O-Line prospects working with Grimes. First group of kids that will learn from him from the get go.
Does Thomas Smith need to sign another LOI? Any updates on him?
Carlis Parker Comments
Interesting Carlis Parker comments, especially since a lot of people on here would like to see him playing reciever.
"I chose Tech because I loved the campus when I came up there. I think I can focus on school and be focused in football. They have a winning program there, and Frank Beamer was serious about me being a quarterback. A lot of schools wanted me to move to receiver, but he really wanted me as a quarterback. That said a lot."
I'm high on Bucky and even Leal and with Loeffler going hard for 2014 quarterbacks already Carlis' best shot of getting on the field may be at another position. Also, HokieSports.com lists him as a quarterback while Rivals lists him as an Athlete. Maybe the intention is to keep it competitive between Parker and Bucky and then have him make a Marcus Davis like switch to WR? Thought it was interesting.
That's along the lines of what I'd expect
If he turns out to be the best thing we have at QB, let him play QB, but otherwise he might find playing time at other positions.
cequan jefferson
"nobody showed interest in me but tech" is that true?
David Prince Comments
Probably my favorite quote of the day....
"I wanted to go in-state, so it was between Tech and UVa. I just couldn’t see myself waking up every morning at UVa."
Thank goodness Kendall Fuller's got talent on the football field. Because based on his profile picture on HokieSports, he has absolutely no taste in fashion. Honestly, one of the gaudiest outfits I've ever seen.
He showed up to take his All American bowl picture with a shirt and bowtie and they probably told him to throw his jersey on over it. I don't see the big deal. Hokiesports probably chose that as his picture because of the All American jersey.
Thumbs down. He showed up to an event in a shirt and tie and they told him to put on a jersey for a photo.
looks like Wyatt Teller was told to do the same thing in his photo.
What's up with the last 4?
Moss, Pfaff, Teller and Harris??? Their LOIs aren't in yet.
Teller said on twitter he signed his
and Harris doesn't need to sign one.
Moss is probably the biggest concern of the day, but it's been a month or so since we heard he was wavering a bit.
Just wondering....
McLaughlin signed one, why doesn't Harris have to?
Nobody has to sign one.
And I actually doubt McLaughlin did sign one since he is already enrolled.
The advantage to signing a LOI:
1. Saves your scholarship for you (not an issue for a talent like Drew Harris)
2. Allows you to be celebrated on NSD (Harris already went through that last year)
3. Shows your commitment to your school (again, last year)
Harris may send one in, but he doesn't need to. And I'm not sure Hokiesports will include him as a commitment since he was included last year. McLaughlin was not. Same thing for DJ Reid, included this year but probably won't be next year (He's almost certainly going to have to prep)
Ruh roh...
Not sure what it means (I hate sites behind paywalls...)
EDITED: Follow up tweet
Reason #4 to sign a LOI
To commit your services to a school.
No LOI, still on the market.
I think the question was whether he was still obligated to come to Tech based on last year's LOI, and I'm pretty sure the answer is "no". At this point he is back in the open market, he could sign with anyone.
yep
there's no ring on his finger.
Moss just came in. We good.
Teller is officially in.
Teller
And Bud says that Teller is going to stay on defense! Excited to see him maul some QBs.
Bud also said...
Teller said he would play anywhere the team needed him. I thought that was interesting, he seemed to go out of his way to say that.
If I was going to handicap where WT plays the most games in his career, I would guess: 40% DT, 35% OT, 25% DE.
Teller is game
I think any analyst can downplay players but I feel that Teller is going to develop into a great defensive player.
Can someone explain to me what the Drew Harris issue is? I cannot fathom how difficult it's been to get this guy on campus! I guarantee if he was an Ole Miss recruit, he'd be on their campus already.
Are you implying something about Ole Miss's tactics given today's success?
Not their tactics, just their academics. As Colin Cowherd said this morning, "Getting into Ole Miss is about as difficult as getting your fisher's license."
Hahaha, I heard that monologue.
Yeah but VT is not like that...the reason why I asked before was because the comment came across to me that VT should dumb down their admissions standard in this case for the sake of the football team. I hope I'm not in the minority in saying that I'm glad its hard to get into the University and that we don't undermine our ethics for the glory of our football team. I don't even need to get into how that resonates.
Looks like we're not going to get him at all?
Not sounding great:
I wonder how much of this involves his father's previously-stated displeasure with the paperwork snafu at Tech...
Kid and Dad both need to own up
Getting into VT for athletics is not very hard (seriously). You're getting a free education for playing football. Go to class, do your homework and study. Then don't bitch when your borderline an don't get in. If you have this much trouble getting in, there's a very high chance you'll never make it through. VT didn't give him the HS and prep grades.
Would love to see him wearing the orange and maroon. But if he can't qualify we'll move on without him.
Great Point.
Given the developments - and I'm willing to reserve full judgement until this plays itself out - I'm starting to believe he just can't get in academically and this is just the end of the road for him in Blacksburg. Not to say he might not improve as a student while at Tech, but this likely would have transpired at some point or another. I hope things come through, he appears to be a great prospect, but if not I wish him the best of luck elsewhere.
Here's more
Facyson wants to be a heart surgeon? thats awesome.
What's up with Pfaff?
Haven't received his letter yet.
Who knows what is happening with Harris.
I saw this from The Daily Progress' Andrew Ramspacher earlier.
Jamieon Moss...
...has ridiculously long arms.
Good eye by our coaches to get an early commitment from him. More impressive to hold off FSU and Michigan.
David Prince Is FAST
Pfaff is in
@12:23
We have 18
but we were looking for 20....Who is still out there aside from Harris?
Harris and Jerome Wright, another FUMA guy
Do we know anything about Wright?
What's the holdup there?
Pretty Sure
He's already enrolled
No holdup. He's from last year like Harris except he's already enrolled. Just didn't get listed like the rest of the guys on HokieSports.
Good to hear
So we're at 19, with Harris on hold. Hope that situation gets fixed soon.
Beamer on the webcast now
Over/under on him saying "He'll get after ya"?
Ah it was close!
CFB said the staff was "getting right after it" with regard to 2014 recruiting!
From what I saw
Drew Harris' issues originate from his HS Transcript/other paper work. Has nothing to do with VT or FUMA Post Graduate program per Mike Barber:
http://vtsports.blogs.timesdispatch.com/2013/02/06/4-star-rb-harris-sign...
Very interesting read.
I just don't understand how he doesn't already have his ducks in order. If it was me, especially after the early enrollment issue, I would know exactly what needs to be done for me to get in and I would get the ball rolling early. It wouldn't take me to the day of a deadline, twice, to figure out there's a problem. Maybe he has known for some time and we're just finding out today, I don't know. Either way, I know this whole situation seems really unorganized and I don't like how it's unfolding.
the term "junior college" is never good
And it will sink our top 20 class.
Why does our recruiting ranking matter? If there are players in JC that can improve our team, then why not go after them?
the JC comment was referring to Drew Harris potentially needing JC to qualify, not about the Hokies delving in to the JC talent pool. And yes, the recruiting ranking doesn't matter, but if it drops it is because we lost Harris, which is definitely not addition by subtraction.
Ohhh I see. Misunderstood. Thanks.
Sounds like this
is a grade issue. This may get back to his academic performance.
did anyone see this? 5 star rb committed to arkansas had to cancel his announcement presser because his mom ran off with his loi. he cant even sign it, they cant find her.
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/eye-on-college-football/21...
keep her away from the team. that woman has some serious issues...
His mom wants him to go to Miami.
I say, let him. That will turn into a dumpster fire in a hurry. Let all the dysfunction find its way to Coral Gables.
LOL
I laughed pretty hard when I read this earlier.
I am really impressed with the recruits keeping their words and fending off suitors to stay commit to Virginia Tech.
I am also a bit disappointed with Drew Harris. His account has been awfully quiet today, so I think something is up.
I am also so looking forward to spring camps and listening to the progress of the early enrollees, the OL coaching, heck, just about everything!
Let's go, Hokies! #BeatBama
Anybody have the breakdown of rankings?
Just curious to how we did (according to the talking head idiots).
I know they don't mean anything and we take underrated guys and put them in the League...but always nice to see us on the big board.
Mid-Teens
Most places I've been to have us 15 - 17 best class and third best in the ACC. I think FSU is top 10 and Clemson is just ahead of us.
None of it really matters though. Hopefully we can look back at this class in 3 - 4 years and see 10-12 wins a season & some NFL caliber guys.
