Virginia Tech Football Recruiting: Reggie Floyd Commits to Hokies

Hokies and #Sandman16 gain their second in-state commitment.

Reggie Floyd (left), Greg Stroman and Tim Settle [@tim_settle]

Virginia Tech gained a commitment from 2016 athlete Reggie Floyd. The Stonewall Jackson (Manassas) rising senior announced his decision on Twitter.

Floyd is a 3-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite. Virginia Tech has been on a run with landing Stonewall Jackson talent. Tech signed wide receiver / corner Greg Stroman in 2014, and blue chip defensive tackle Tim Settle in 2015.

Welcome to DBU, Reggie. Manassas represent!

Manassas son what

He is a really talented athlete. It will be interesting to see if he ends up at DB or running back.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Edit: Apparently he's going to start as a free safety, but I still think he ends up as a RB. There are a ton of good WR/DB/ATH types on the board, especially in-state, and Floyd is a very good RB.

I personally believe we end up with Floyd and CJ Freeman as RB this year. Gonna be a crowded RB room-may not take any next year.

May not take any next year...class of 2017?

VT has little idea what the RB room will look like in Fall 2017 (or Fall 2018 assuming a redshirt). But there will very likely be room for a good young RB (or two) in the class of '17.

Yes, 2017. It's speculative, but in my scenario there would be 9 scholarship guys in the room, which is a whole lot. Obviously there will probably be attrition and we would take anyone who is a really special talent, but the need would not be there.

Not sure where you're getting 9 RBs for the 2017 season. I only see 8 for the upcoming season and I get 7 at most for '17 -- and that assumes Wright takes a red shirt (not likely...a transfer would make more sense) and Floyd/VT chooses RB over DB (which is 50/50 at best).

Potential 2017 RB meeting room as of now:

Wright: r-Sr
Williams: r-Jr or Sr
McKenzie: r-Jr or Sr
McMillian: r-Jr
D.J. Reid: r-Jr
McClease: r-So or Jr
Floyd: r-Fr or Soph

I missing someone?

If VT doesn't sign any RB's in the '17 class, my guess is that there will no more than 6 RBs for the '17 season. (I assume VT signs another 2 RB's in the '16 class, but neither Wright or Floyd is on the roster as a RB and someone else is lost to attrition either through injury, suspension or transfer).

And that's just the 2017 roster...what about '18 & '19? That '17 RB room is pretty upperclassman heavy.

My guess would be that VT signs at least 4 RBs over the next two classes.

Sorry, I counted Edmunds, but there's still 8 in my scenario, which is a lot of guys on scholarship for a single position. Heck, I think we had fewer scholarship cornerbacks last year. Perhaps my scenario assumes too much, but it's certainly possible.

Fantastic news! Do we know if he is being recruited as a RB or for the secondary?

Greg Stroman is one of VT best recruiters for getting Tim and Reggie to Settle in B-burg with him.

With Mook Reynolds hot on his trail. And we may have to worry about position coaches leaving in the next two years, but we'll get a good 3-4 years of recruiting out of these guys regardless!

Yes,that's the Hokie Bird riding a camel. Why'd you ask?

Great news here. Can we bring those uniforms that he's rocking in the Twitter picture back as well? I loved those jerseys, and we beat UVA wearing them... seems like they're due back.

we beat UVA wearing them

that works with a lot of our unis!

It sure does!

We've beaten UVA every year in the black ones (at least in my NCAA 14 dynasty).

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

I think he is too dangerous with the ball in his hands to put him on defense. Reminds me of someone, but I cant think of who. Maybe Joe McKnight when he played for USC.

Pretty similar

That first highlight where he lowers his pads, wow.

Awesome news! Welcome!!! I wouldn't be surprised to see Kumah jump on board to fwiw!

Very good pick up, love the back end of his tape. Underrated prospect.

Yais!!!!

Yeah I was going to ask him what he thought about Reggie Floyd's commitment but it appears that he just spliced in a reaction shot and went to his trailer.

You have selected 2!

Awesome!!

Puts us at 8 commits, which is a significantly faster pace than last year

I have a hard time believing he's 5'11" 190lbs. He plays like 6'3" 225lbs. Long strides, finishes with painful hits. If he plays safety, WRs will break going over the middle.

🦃 🦃 🦃

If no room at running back Maybe we could use him in same role as Newsome. I always wondered why we haven't tried Caleb in same capacity. Get the ball in these guys hands any way possible.

Win one for the Beamer...

Kid's gonna be a 4 star if he spends any time at all on the camp/combine circuit. Awesome pickup for the good guys.

He's pretty jacked for a junior in high school.

Whoa!
Big, fast and can hit!! Seems like he could play RB or Safety, whatever the need.

Welcome Mr. Floyd!

By the time he is done redshirting I am not sure if we will actually need help in our running back group. Most will be seniors.

So i missed something. What is the deal behind sandman16?

I think it's just the recruiting class' unifying thing on Twitter. Like this year the guys did #oneheartbeat15 (I think?) so the 2016 group has #sandman16.
