Over the course of a decade, Syracuse University did not control and monitor its athletics programs, and its head men's basketball coach failed to monitor his program, according to a decision issued by a Division I Committee on Infractions panel.
-Five years of probation from March 6, 2015 through March 5, 2020.
-Vacation of all wins in which ineligible men's basketball students played in 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2010-11 and 2011-12 and ineligible football students played in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07. The public decision contains additional details.
-Fine of $500 per contest played by ineligible students.
-The school must return to the NCAA all funds it has received to date through the former Big East Conference revenue sharing for its appearances in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
-Suspension of the head basketball coach from the first nine conference games of 2015-16.
-Reduction of men's basketball scholarships by three for the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years. If the school has already executed scholarship offers for the 2015-16 year, the school may begin the four-year penalty with the 2016-17 year.
-Reduction in the number of permissible off-campus recruiters from four to two during June 1, 2015 through May 31, 2017.
-The panel also accepted the school's self-imposed postseason ban for the 2014-15 season, but noted that self-imposition of penalties after the conclusion of infractions hearings does not influence the outcome.
-Additional self-imposed penalties can be found in the public decision.

If Miami got basically nothing, UNC got a party thrown in their honor by the NCAA.
Don't get me wrong, I doubt anything happens to UNC, but they are still technically "investigating" I think.
I think the Syracuse investigation was opened in like 2007, so there's still a chance they could get something. Hopefully they do.

And there is no postseason ban next year, so wouldn't surprise me to see Boeheim take one last run next year and then retiring as the sanctions really hit.

I think his point was that it seems less than arbitrary and more than coincidental where the two parties 'negotiated' for the line be drawn.
Yeah, Jimmy B got to keep his national championship that way, and the NCAA got to pretend in their minds that they actually did something about a decade of violations by suspended him for less than one game per year of repeated violations.
When people now say the NCAA regulations are a farce, it doesn't begin to describe the situation...

Well with that we are now back down to zero relevant teams in the north Atlantic coast. This is pretty devastating. Another long flight to a game that won't help our chances to the post season. Cuse and BC get to play for the bragging rights of worst ACC member each year now.
I really wouldn't count on Syracuse basketball being in the ACC cellar immediately. They are still bringing in 4 big recruits and people will still show and fill up the Carrier Dome. The out of conference schedule will be filled with easily beatable cream puffs to build up the team and they will hover around a mid 20s ranking. What I think will happen is the team will be much more like USCw football during their sanction years.
They didn't sink to the bottom, they just struggled to be elite... and you don't have to be elite to make the tournament, which is all the cuse fans care about..
And the minute the sanctions lapse, they'll bounce right back into relevance even faster than USC or PSU. The Syracuse name will still carry, and with the smaller basketball rosters, the post-sanction rebuild will take all of about one recruiting class.
The question is now does Boeheim retire now, does the Syracuse board force him out, or does he try and tough it out.
I've heard Boeheim interviewed various times on different talk shows and based on that, he seems to stick to the Bobby Bowden approach that he'd rather get booted out by the athletic department rather than retire too early. Maybe this makes the AD re-consider the direction this program is headed, but I kinda doubt it.
And just as a side note, as great of a coach as he is, he comes off as very sarcastic. Just his body language and how it seems he treats his players. He's still one heck of a coach, but he's never been my favorite.
Boeheim has always come across publicly as a sarcastic jerk. He's gotten warm regards from the ESPN crowd because they have historically been such Big East homers, even as they still remain so for the remnants of 'the good old days'. He'll have to be dragged away, kicking & screaming, pretty much like Calhoun was forced out against his will at UConn. There is almost never an example of these college coaching 'legends' that hang around until their 70's that ends well.
Boeheim is a jerk. He adamantly refused to allow Syracuse to come play in Cassell when we were in the Big East, lobbying the conference admins hard over it and they obliged for the entire time we were there. Not one home game against them until they joined the ACC. The reasoning is that he thought coming to play us in Blacksburg was beneath the prestige of a program like Syracuse.
So yeah, screw him, glad to see his reputation tarnishing a bit.
He does seem to recruit decent talent...
Now I have to be a Providence basketball fan since they screwed up my Syracuse hoops (#TeamMoten) and ETSU destroyed their own basketball program. Lame.
