I have officially opened back up my recruitment. Spoke with Coach Leoffler today-I have decommited from VT.— Logan Byrd (@LoganByrd2016QB) March 9, 2015
Not sure if the two are related but he was just offered by WVU.

Not freaking out, I'm confident that Lefty lands at least 1 QB in this class. Best of luck to Logan, can't fault a kid for wanting to take his time with his decision.
This. This is why you wait...
Sucks, but that's the world we live in now. Not sure I really blame the kid. I believe he committed before Lawson came on board. Think about it, you commit, then a kid who a lot of folks believe is going to be big time commits AND the school hires his high school OC as a quality control coach, you may think about looking around too. Not to mention, WVU has runs a higher octane O than we do is considered a better team at the moment. Looks like he told Lefty too, at least he had the courtesy to do that.
Aaaaaand...we got Lawson because of Kaaya.
No biggie in the grand scheme of things. Best for everyone to get on with it now.
Kaaya is slightly more of a known quantity than Lawson.
Yes but the QB position is looking pretty good with potential already with Lawson and Ford, I know neither has really proven anything more than the ability to throw at camps, but kids these days want to start right away. Byrd was probably looking at a RS year and then a competition with guys that have a year or two in the system as an advantage. He can probably find a school with a junior or senior QB and less depth behind him and a faster/easier track to the starting role. He could always go to UVa, they haven't had an entrenched starter for about a decade.
Funny, that's what people said about the RB position last year - 'It's looking pretty good...' That really worked out well.
It worked out very well. Could you imagine what would have happened with only 2-4 RB's on the roster.
That ignores pretty much everything about the season & the rushing production in 2014.
Huh? We lost 4 running backs and still got great production down the stretch.
It did work out well, if we have 2 season-ending-injuries to our top 2 QBs, we would have a true freshman or redshirt freshman under center taking his first college snaps. That would be pretty bad.
At least at RB we JC who had a few year experience (and finished strong) and we were working back Edmunds into the fold too. Not a bad position to be in considering the attrition at the position.
WVU considered a better team at the moment?
If you consider it "better at the moment" to have 3 FEWER wins than VT over the last 2 years and 4 fewer wins over the last 3 years - the worst 2 & 3 yr stretches for VT in over 20 years - then, yes, I suppose WVU is considered better at the moment.
With the hiring of Lawson's head coach to the football staff, maybe he felt the writing was on the wall for Loeffler's preference.
What's that? A kid who committed barely a month into his junior year decommits before his senior year when he starts getting more attention?

When you think about it from Logan Byrd's perspective, he could wait to commit which leaves the door open for other QBs. If he commits, there is a better chance VT's coaches pull back on looking for other QBs, as well as the possibility that other QBs will lose some interest in coming to VT.
It's not good for us, but was the best move for Logan to increase chances of playing time. Not saying those were his thoughts, just a reason why some players might commit too early.
You don't want to see a kid change his mind, but this really doesn't bother me.
- We have Ford and Durkin as R-Freshman this fall
- Everyone seems very excited about Lawson and he could easily start for 3-4 years if the hype is legit (would like to see him redshirt this fall)
- Loeffler can coach QBs and I'm sure he'll bring in some more talented guys
Plus, and I know banking on recruits is stupid, but there are 2 elite qbs coming out of VA in 2017 and we look to be in a very good spot for at least one of them
What are their names so we can check them out
Devon hunter is a beast of an athlete and will probably end up at safety, but is still has qb listed as one of his positions. We offered him in 8th grade
Shon Mitchell is a dt qb that's started since he was a freshman at oscar smith.
