Nugget Nectar by Troeg's is excellent and strong enough to hold up with pizza. If you're in Virginia i think you should be able to find it without much difficulty. I believe it's officially labeled as an "imperial red ale"

Also if you are in Virginia I highly highly recommend Devil's Backbone Eight Point IPA.

Hoppy?

Dogfish Head 60 and 90 Minute IPA's. Founder's All Day IPA.

Every second counts

I think 90 minute is too hoppy to pair with food. The other two are great suggestions. Sam Adams Rebel IPA ans New Belgium Ranger IPA also go great with pizza and are easy to find.

El. Guapo.

I don't think many people outside of Hampton Roads know what this is or have access to it as far as I know.

stick it in, stick it in, stick it in!

Ouch that's too bad. Its so good...

I've had it here in RVA...solid beer, but I'm more of a fan of Great Dismal (and Black IPAs in general)

#TeamPeanutButter - because your cakes, pies, cookies, and ice creams are better with it!

I'm not a fan of many IPAs, but Great Dismal is delicious.

stick it in, stick it in, stick it in!

Agree on both counts. Had Great Dismal at the Burger Blast a few weeks ago.

If I made a list of beers I would fill this page so I am going to go with IPA's all the way. And if that is to strong of a taste for you rookie beer drinkers go with a pale ale. I love my beer and I love finding good pairings with it, pizza to me = IPA.

Doubled down with a 6 of Dogfish 60 Minute and River Horse Hop Hazzard. Lets Go Hokies!

Get Bent Mountain IPA from ParkwayBrewery

Bell's Two Hearted Ale is currently my favorite all around beer. Just a well balanced beer.

Currently drinking Flying Dog Double Dog.

Bells is on my shitlist right now thanks to their BS lawsuit over a motto they aren't known for and haven't trademarked.

seriously.
I have 5 bottles of Consecrator in my beer fridge. Debating pouring them down the drain vs drinking them since I paid for them prior to this debacle coming to light. Either way I won't be buying any Bells beer again. Too many other good breweries out there.

Things are never as simple as they seem:

This makes about ten million times more sense. Bell's is worried that if the trademark is granted, they'll lose a slogan they've used for decades.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

If they don't at least attempt to defend and get something on paper, then they would lose all ability to use it themselves upon threat of trademark infringement.

With the proliferation of breweries and different beers with different names, I've run into this once or twice and have been able to solve it over a couple of beers and trading letters back and forth.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

What gets me is that Bell's is claiming Ingenuity has refused to negotiate on this at all, but Ingenuity is complaining about how expensive the legal proceedings are. Maybe Ingenuity is holding out hope that if the trademark is granted they'll make a fortune on licensing to Bell's. Or maybe Ingenuity is getting really, really bad legal advice from a lawyer padding his own pockets. I can see Bell's stake in the game here. I can't see Ingenuity's.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

I'm not sure if you mixing up "Ingenuity" and "Innovation" helps or hurts Bell's argument...

1 of 3 things, either they are emotionally invested in the name or
they have done all the paperwork in the name and the ABC board has told them they cannot just change the name and keep the license, they would need to start from scratch or,
they have already bought a whole lot of packaging and marketing materials with that name.
Packaging beer is the most expensive part of the process.

Perhaps it's a combination of things.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

From Bell's statement it sounds like they're fine with INNOVATION (D'oh on my earlier kerfuffle) keeping the name, they just want to be able to keep their slogan.

Gotta be a missing angle in this story.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

No, that's it. Trademark laws are unusual and don't always seem straightforward.
It sounds to me like Bell's wants an agreement to be allowed to use the word Innovation.
If the new brewery will allow this, Bell's will drop the Trademaek fight.
I think the new brewery is getting poor advice.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Innovation Brewing's response on their facebook page:

To Our Wonderful Craft Beer Community:

We felt it was important to get our story out to the media because this is an important matter for the craft beer industry. We did not intend (nor do we want to) have a social media battle with Bell's, but because of allegations posted on Bell's Brewery's Facebook page we now have to defend ourselves. Settlement discussions are protected communications that are not to be disclosed publicly, so out of respect to Bell's Brewery's rights we would never have disclosed them. Furthermore, Mr. Bell pointedly stated that he would not "play this out on social media" – and so we again respected his wishes by keeping the details to ourselves. Now, it appears they changed their mind.

We are planning to deliver a full statement of the facts and events that have brought us to this point. Until then, we feel it necessary to respond to Ms. Bell's enumerated allegations. Thank you for continuing to support and believe in us. You keep us going through this difficult time.

1. Yes, this is a TM proceeding and not a lawsuit, although it is like a lawsuit, requiring legal representation, being personally deposed, and including a trial. They are asking us to withdraw our federal trademark application for our brand name.
2. We do not believe that any human on earth would confuse Innovation Brewing with Bell's Brewery, despite their slogans.
3. Laura Bell did contact me at 7:00 pm the night before their opposition filing was due. They had already hired attorneys to represent them and file for their extension to file the opposition. We had not hired an attorney. After she advised us that she would "let us" keep using the name in NC only, and never expand beyond it, she said that we had until the next day at 5:00 PM to respond. That is 22 hours to find an attorney and decide on the future of our business. That was the one and only attempt Ms. Bell made to contact me. From there their attorneys took over.
4. Not a single co-existence agreement has ever been presented to us by Bell's. In fact it was we who submitted a written co-existence agreement – subsequently declined by Bell's. The only monetary compensation they have ever offered us was $2,500 which was to cover the inconvenience of being forced to abandon our trademark and go register a different one. The "legal fees", as Ms. Bell puts it, brought on by their legal action against us, may exceed $50,000. We did not feel like being bought off.
5. This matter was before the TM office one day after she began talking to us. No offer has ever been presented to us other than the offer to limit our business to NC or take $2,500 to start over and build a new brand. We believe in our business, so those are not really offers at all.
6. In regards to Laura Bell stating "we hope to resolve this as swiftly as the system will allow" we suggested the accelerated trademark opposition process that would have brought this to a legal end much sooner and with far less expense, but Bell's denied it.

You great people don't deserve to be peppered with sides of the story. So we will give you a full account of the facts so you can decide for yourself. We are good people and we know we have your support. Stay tuned.
-Chip and Nicole

At this point I hope both companies have to change their names and their slogans. The statements by each are passive aggressive and condescending. Both appear to be trying to appeal to the moral high ground, but neither is living up to it.

At this rate, I think we should stage a 'title' bout between Chip and the Bell's dude and another one between Nicole and Laura. Guys fight is worth .99 points. Ladies fight is worth 1 point. If they have kids, each kids' fight is worth .02 points.

Someone please tell me. I want to drink beer!

Dogfishhead FTW

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Unfortunately, can't get all those good VA micro brews in NJ. VA micro scene is booming had many good ones like Parkway and Devils Backbone. Miss the commonwealth, NJ starting to get a little micro action but it is very slow. Pa has some great brews!

Stop it with the Negative Waves!

Dogfish Head is from Delaware, but you're right on that VA microbrews are booming right now.

As NJ brews go, I really like 077XX (IPA from Carton Brewing Company).

@historyhokie.bsky.social

Starting to get some good micro brews Cape May, Pine Barrens, You can get a growler fill, or have to find them at local pub. Small scale you wont find them in grocery or liquor store.

Stop it with the Negative Waves!

If you guys need a better beer selection then cross over the line into PA. The scene there has heated up a lot.

In NJ you should be able to get Victory.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I like to go around a different way, I like a spicy pizza and a smooth beer like Blue Mountain's Steel wheels ESB.

Try 3 brothers, they have 2 good with pizza- Pilznerd is a proper German Pilsner that's hop forward. Hoptimization has plenty of backbone to stand up to a real nice greasy cheesy pizza.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

i've been very pleased with 3 brothers

@historyhokie.bsky.social

3 Bros' Atramentous is a Top 5 beer of mine.

Lazy Magnolia's Timber Beast

Or Monday Night Brewing Nerd Alert which is a pilsner like ale. It goes great with pizza.

While not an IPA, North Coast Brewing's 'Scrimshaw' Pislner is pretty good and refreshing. I enjoy it with it pizza. Everytime we go to our favorite pizza place here I drink Scrimshaw with it. Not sure how far east North Coast distributes though, I'm in KC.

For an IPA if you can find any "Enjoy By" from Stone, those are usually fantastic.

If you're in the greater Charlotte area, NoDa Hop, Drop, n Roll.

This is my all time favorite beer.

Heard it was really good but haven't found it in my area yet.

@AMB4VT

If you ever see Sly Fox (PA Brew) in a can get it, you won't be disappointed.

Stop it with the Negative Waves!

I have some Hop Drop N Roll in the fridge right now. It was the Gold medal winner at the Great American Beerfest this past year in the most entered category. It is a great IPA.

Blue Mountain Brewery's "Full Nelson"....my current favorite!

Long live Rasche Hall

Hadn't had a Little Sumpin' Sumpin' in a long time until last night. Won't make that mistake again - it's a damn good beer.

@historyhokie.bsky.social

You should never go very long without gettin' a little Sumpin' Sumpin'. then go get a good beer too.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I am loving this beer recently.. And drinking one right now!

Open and cold is my favorite beer to have with pizza, and free is a close second...

Now for specifics anything from Stone is my usual go to especially for IPA's which are the bestest!

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Deep in the shadows of the great Liberty University is a small but really great local brewery in Forest VA. Apocalypse Brewery. It is always a great time to go during a warm evening, sit in the lawn, eat some pizza with friends and enjoy some of their great choices in craft beers.

Good choice, we go there often and there is a pizza place nearby with decent pie. they deliver to the deck there.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Yes they do. I also heard that they are planning on having more food trucks and local food places come in each weekend and serve food starting in the spring.
