Where do you even start?
Frank Gore going back on his word with Philly and signing with Indy
Andre Johnson getting cut by Houston and rumored to be signing with Indy
Shane Vereen signs with the Giants
Patrick Willis retiring from the game at age 30
Oh, and then the 2 massive trades that just went down.
Jimmy Graham traded to Seattle for a bunch of picks and C Matt Unger
Sam Bradford traded to Philadelphia for Nick Foles and a draft pick

this is NUTS!!!
I never realized that the NFL Trade Deadline could be so much fun!
Haloti Ngata to the Lions.
Lemme get this straight:
Ravens give Detroit: Ngata and a 7th round pick.
Detroit gives Ravens: 4th and 5th round picks.
I hate trades like this. I know it's a 7th rounder but still
Patrick Willis retiring is still the craziest thing to me
Niners without Gore, Willis and Smith will be a very different team.
I didnt think Johnson had signed with Indy yet. He was visiting today but had four other visits lined up this week. I havent seen any announcement they have a deal.
Why would anyone trade for Sam Bradford?
Why the hell would anyone want a QB tandem of Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez?
neither matter much when you intend to trade up and get Mariota
Exactly. The Eagles are going to dump all those draft picks they're getting for Foles into trading up for Mariota.
anyone have a link that says that the Eagles are receiving the pick? everywhere I see says that they are giving up a pick...and that does NOT make sense....
Swapping picks and getting a conditional I believe.
link? And who's getting the conditional? I have seen nothing talking about swapping picks.
Rumors are still flying all over the place...
When I first saw it, Philly was dealing a pick and Foles for just Bradford... now what I'm hearing is there is some kind of swap in picks with a 2nd rounder going to Philly with an additional conditional pick going to Philly. No word on the pick St. Louis is getting.
Yea...ESPN is way off though..they are saying it's a straight up swap with philly sending a 2nd to rams. NO WAY does that make sense...
Starting to get some clarity...
Reading the picks being swapped were first rounders.
To St. Louis - #20 overall and Nick Foles
To Philly - #10 overall, Sam Bradford, and a 2016 Conditional
Also sounding extremely likely that Philly will be sending Bradford, the #10 overall, and possibly another pick to Tennessee for the #2 overall pick.
This part is a bit odd to me.
1) Bucs are going to draft Winston.
2) Titans are apparently happy with Mettenberger.
3) Jags have Bortles
4) Raiders aren't going to draft a QB here I wouldn't think...
5) Skins (see above)
6) Jets - This is where things get interesting.
I feel like they could trade into spots 3-5 and still get Mariota. I can see not wanting to help out the Skins as a divisional opponent that needs a lot of help but trading up to #2 is going to be pricey...
Well, in Alum's scenario, they'd essentially be trading Foles and the #20 pick for the #2 pick, just passing them through St Louis to do it. And if they can't get in at 5 or 6, maybe it's 2 or nothing, so they have to do it. Or maybe they get #2 pick in hand, then trade it to work a few slots back down.
Who knows. All chaos. Love it.
where are you seeing this?
NFL Network
Rams beat writer:
lol..what a cluster... my buddy and I are trying to make sense of this whole mess.
Reading the same... hearing some reports that the Eagles only traded their 2nd round pick and Foles to get Bradford and the #10....
Interesting, seems like no one has the real scoop yet.
Exactly... nobody has a clue...
EAGLES GET: QB Sam Bradford, 2015 5th round pick, conditional 2016 pick
RAMS GET: QB Nick Foles, 2015 4th round pick, 2016 2nd round pick
Eagles will surrender 2016 2nd-round pick to Rams in QB trade no matter what. But will get back a conditional 2016 pick from Rams. It will be a 3rd if Bradford does not play at all; and a 4th if he starts less than 50 percent of plays."
Before, I didn't think he would be dumb enough to do that after seeing how the same thing hurt Washington.
Now? I all but guarantee it HAS to happen.
I'm hoping somehow Chip has totally lost it and sends a few first round picks to DC so we can make up for the RGIII debacle.
My Skins have been quiet, Scot McCloughan's only move so far has been very solid (Stephen Paea). Perhaps he can do something to put out the dumpster fire in Ashburn.
I'm pretty sauced the Skins have been so quiet thus far. I still think our biggest weakness is our secondary, despite how poor the line on both sides of the ball look right now. I trust the new GM because I think his track record speaks for itself, but I wish we were hearing more from them. I gotta say, I enjoyed a sigh of relief after Suh signed with Miami. When I got the BR notification that WAS was interested in him, I couldn't stop myself from thinking this is Haynesworth all over again. I know Suh is a monster and everything, but that guy is getting paid Kobe numbers at 114 mill over 3 years.
I'd have to say the skins biggest weakness is quarterback
RGIII was nothing special the last two years, but still I don't think he's the weakest link in the grand scheme of things. Taking Mariota with the number 5 pick, assuming Jameis goes to TB no. 1, makes absolutely no sense. RGIII and Mariota are virtually the exact same guys. Skins fans are always infatuated with new. Just because Mariota is new and flashy and whatnot, does not mean it's sustainable over the long run. So with that being said, who is actually available that is a stronger grab than what we already got? Cutler? No thanks. I wouldn't be ticked if we grabbed either a D linemen or O linemen at the no. 5 spot, but I still believe that secondary is lacking some serious talent. Say what you want about Haslett, but when your best CB is a 30 some year old DeAngelo Hall coming off TWO Achilles tears, it makes it pretty hard to win ball games.
Except I don't think Mariota has RG3's arm strength.
Winston = Byron Leftwich with sociopathic tendencies
Mariota = Eric Crouch with height.
Anyone who takes either is going to pay for it for a long time. Looking at the overall class, I don't know if there is a kid who I go after, although if I could sign him as an undrafted free agent I would give Shane Carden or Rakeem Cato a look. Neither has the size to make scouts salivate, but both guys are mobile, have the arm, and understand that the QB position is about getting the ball to your playmakers and identifying match up wins pre-snap. They may not make the team, but looking at this group I don't know that there is much hope of any of these guys being difference makers.
I think both Cato and Carden are going to be the sleeper steals of this draft. Grab them around 4-5 round and you have somebody that you can fit in immediately that should be serviceable. Fix your bigger needs in rounds 1-3.
Definitely the secondary
Definitely the owner.
Woops wrong page
My analysis:
Winston to the Saints is the hot pick
Eddie Royal to the Windy City.
Wait WHAT? I just read a a few days ago he had a deal in place in SD?
RE Eddie to the Bears:
Eddie Royal was a DONE DEAL (per reports) to the Skins a few years ago...and since he's one of my favorite Hokies of all time and a local kid I was so pumped...but it was all for naught.
Not sure if its Eddie or his agent but things seem to flip flop with him.
And now this:
WOULD SOME OF MY FAVORITE HOKIES STOP GOING TO CHICAGO PLEASE?! My heart can't take it :(
Jake Locker retiring at 26. Maybe to play baseball? The Angels drafted him and still have his rights.
Thats if he is physically able to play. His injury history in his short four years is an ugly read.
How about the Texans now having to pick between two of the patriots seconds in Hoyer and Malleck.
Bad job by the Raiders.
#TeamPotRoast. Of course, perhaps Chicken and Dumplings is available. #ValuePick
I would really like for some defensive or skill player Hokies to go to Houston or Carolina so I can finally pick an NFL team to be a fan of. Only been 32 years of just rooting against the Skins and Cowboys
well at least you got it right half of the time....HTTR!!
My dad is a lifelong fan been on their wait list for awhile. But how can you not just want to burn the whole organization to the ground? Have they had a good draft in last 15 years?
No.
Why should I when Dan Snyder's doing such a bang-up job on his own?
Hey...when craziness is the only way you've ever known....you deal with the craziness...lol. Dan has his heart (Read Wallet) in the right place...he's just taking his sweet ass time learning that he needs to let the people that know football run his team.
Exactly..... in how many other years would we have heard the Redskins mentioned at the heart of most of these rumors in an offseason like this? Revis and Suh definitely would have been seen getting on Redskins One....we probably would have been rumored to be making a deal with the Eagles to bring in one of these awful QBs....and we definitely would have given another huge contract to someone that cant stay on the field. Instead, the Redskins are rumored to have agreed to a deal with an up and coming defensive lineman from Chicago and thats it so far.
Getting Alfred Morris late was a good pick. Can't speak to the whole draft though.
Carolina had Jeff King and James Anderson for several years. Keep waiting for them to get someone out of DBU though. You'd think they would've by now considering how weak they're secondary is...
If I'm going to FINALLY pick an NFL team to be a fan of I need current players. I've narrowed it down to Caroline since I live in SC, Houston because I love Texas and I like the way they play D and Jacksonville because who would be a bandwagon fan of theirs?
Looks like you may be picking a team soon... See below
Rooting against the Skins and Cowboys; sounds like you'd fit in as an Eagles fan quite well.
Jarrett Boykin visiting the Panthers! We need a Hokie.
That would be an awesome fit. A Kelvin Benjamin/Jarrett Boykin 1, 2 punch would be sick. Who else y'all got? Ted Ginn? Seeing through maroon shades, I'd easily take Boykin any day of the week over him (aside from kick returns). Davante Adams is a stud but I thought GB kinda gave Boykin a raw deal after his monster 2013 year. I still think his best days in the League are ahead of him.
LaFell is in NE and was one of Brady's top targets this past year and Ginn recently resigned after being on Arizona last year. Also have one of the top TEs in the league in Greg Olsen but if we add Boykin we will probably add at least 1-2 more WRs between the FA and the draft.
Yeah I edited out the LaFell comment and obviously Olsen is still tough. I just meant in terms of who would be the other WR opposite Benjamin
Jerricho Cotchery and Philly Brown were the only ones who really did anything last year but with Ginn back and obviously a couple likely coming in their should be a much greater competition for the 2 and 3 spot.
I'm having a really hard time with this because too many Panthers fans only know Boykin for his (bad) stats last season. Too many of them don't even see him as an upgrade over BRENTON BERSIN. Seriously. I'm trying to remain calm but it's testing me.
To be fair, Ginn was brought in to be the improvement over Bersin
As a returner, sure. As a WR, they don't have similar abilities (i.e. Bersin is a possession receiver - I guess -... and Ginn is supposed to be a deep threat.) Boykin could fill that role Bersin was in as a WR pretty well, I think. Also he adds value as a STs gunner.
If Boykin joins the team, its likely as a replacement for Cotchery.
Could be.
similar size and skill set, but Boykin is only 4 years out of college while Cotchery is on his last legs. Now, I'm also hearing their in the mix for Cecil Shorts from Jax. If they can land him and Boykin, you're looking at a WR corps of Benjamin, Shorts, Ginn, Boykin, Philly Brown, Cotchery, Bersin with Olsen and Dickson lining up at TE. That would arguably be the best receiving corps from top to bottom that Carolina has had since they went to the Super Bowl with Smitty, Muhammad, and Proehl. And, more importantly, it would be a very young WR core.
At least one of those would end up being cut at some point but I agree. I kinda doubt we sign both Boykin and Shorts though.
Didn't I read Brandon Flowers is in serious talks of getting a new contract with the Chargers?
Not in talks anymore. Reportedly agreed on 4 year, $36M deal.
Not exactly breaking news, but Oakland signed Roy Helu Jr. I guess since Jones-Drew retired this is a smart move. He was actually pretty good as a poor man's Shane Vereen this year in DC. Could become the lead back unless the Raiders are still sold on Latavius Murray or a really banged up, fragile McFadden.
It is a shame about McFadden. Hell of a college player who took too much wear and tear in college. See Trent Richardson.
He was great when healthy for about a year or two with Oakland. Pretty surprising about MJD as well. He wasn't very good this year, but it was only like 3 years ago when he was third in the league in rushing yards. I think it's almost sad how much the NFL is becoming a passing league. RBs have always been my favorite position to draft in fantasy
When a RB goes, he goes. Statistically, the difference between greatness and average at the RB position is longevity and about .3 of a yard. As the NFL has changed, no position has become more disposable. I think NFL coaches started to figure it out when Eric Dickerson was rushing for 2000 yards and his team still wasn't winning. You have to have a dependable running game, but short of having a once in a lifetime player, establishing that running game is more about having a QB that can take pressure off the line of scrimmage and an OL that can block versus that superior RB. When you add that you can't pay premium dollars in salary cap football for someone who takes that kind of pounding, it is a very bad idea to every pay a running back big money.
Isn't Tyrod a free agent this year? Anybody heard any updates on him?
He is apparently visiting with the Bills today.
That could actually be a great fit for him. The Bills have nobody at quarterback right now.
TT > EJ Manuel. This has been true for quite some time now.
see 2010 acc championship game
To be fair, its not EJ's fault that he wasn't throwing to Danny Coale all day
That was a great game to be at! That entire offense was clicking all night long, and the final score was way closer than the actual game.
http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/ravens/ravens-insider/bal-ravens-free...
Hopefully headed to Bills.... Cause Cassel will only be good till he goes down. And E J is awful.
Still blows my mind that EJ went in the first round. And then Christian Ponder did the same. I know Florida State is a big name and all but they never showed anything close to NFL caliber play.
Question is, will we be saying the same thing about Winston in three years from now? You're right, that could be a huge red flag and it's something no one is talking about since everyone considers him to be the number 1 pick as of today.
While he does appear to at least have more of the physical tools, he seems like he has a high probability of bust, not even considering off the field questions. He had one incredible year surrounded by legit NFL talent. Take that away and he looked downright average to bad for long stretches this year. People always talk about how much good quarterback play elevates a team, but it seems everyone forgets that quarterbacks are highly dependent on the talent around them.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ponder and Emanuel would have been Heisman candidates as well with how stacked that team was.
Has anyone been hearing anything about MV7? I'm really surprised there hasn't been more chatter, considering how weak the free agent QB pool was this year. I would have thought he would be near the top of most of the available guys. The only rumor I've heard is the Ravens, but he would obviously have 0% shot at playing time there. Looking like he's going to be relegated to riding the bench the rest of his career at this point.
Michael Vick will always be one of my favorite athletes ever, but when you say stuff like "I wasn't prepared to play, but will be next week" after watching Geno get tossed around in a 31-0 drubbing to SD, doesn't exactly scream you have a whole lot of drive to continue playing. He would obviously never say this, but I think MV7 is content with being a backup QB at this point in his career. I know he said playing for the Redskins "would be a dream come true" recently.
Translation: I want to get paid.
I think he was completely misled about his opportunity with the Jets. He walked right into a toxic situation. I think they honestly told him from the onset that he would have an opportunity to win the job, but realistically, they were giving Geno every possible advantage. I think if it had been up to Rex solely, Vick would've started from the beginning, but the GM and owner had so much invested in Geno. I think once Vick realized he had no actual shot at winning the job, he really became disinterested for the rest of the season. Not to mention, the Jets were pretty bereft of talent offensively to begin with.
If he really is content with riding the pine, then a spot like Baltimore really does make sense. The Redskins would be almost the Jets 2.0; Gruden seemingly wants anyone but RG3 as his QB, but RG3 is Snyder's guy, and he will force Gruden to work with him. Surprised there haven't been any rumblings out of Buffalo. He can't seem to stay healthy and his play has been really inconsistent as of late, so I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't much interest in him as a legitimate candidate for playing time.
For the love of all that's good just get RG3, MV7, and Tyrod and have a pure mobile qb offense.
Chip Kelly said a team called him this morning offering a first rounder for Sam Bradford. Assuming he was telling the truth, who do you think the team was?
I'm going with someone like Denver or San Diego. Not a great draft pick, and an old quarterback
Very well could be. I would maybe think the Browns; Hoyer is gone, and it looks like Johnny Manziel is going to be a huge bust by all indications. They also have two first round picks, so they've got one to spare to take a shot on a signal caller like Bradford.
If somebody actually made that offer take it and run.
Eddie Royal signed to the Bears.
Way too many Hokies on the Bears. I have to support the Packers (the Mrs.) and now silently I'm going to be hoping for the Bears to light the Packers up.
Reports that Demarco Murray is flying to Philly today with the intention of signing with the Eagles.
Part of me thinks this is a clever ploy to get Jerruh to panic a little and pull the trigger on overpaying him a bit. And if so, I am cool with that.
If the Eagles insane last few days continues and he does sign there, talk about an interesting move.
Apparently he's bringing a significant portion of his entourage to Philly with him....
man... if I were a Dallas fan, I'd be beside myself seeing him jump to Philly a season after he sets the franchise single season rushing mark.
But him leaving could be the break a certain VT RB needs to get his shot.
DeMarco Murray has agreed with Philadelphia
5 years $42 million, $21 million is guaranteed.
Ryan Mathews is also in Philadelphia with a contract agreed to but not signed
Too much guaranteed money for an injury-proned RB
Ends up being less than what Buffalo extended Shady for. I still think the Eagles sign Matthews as well. One thing that is somewhat lost in all this is that, because of previous injuries, Murray has 660 fewer touches than Shady over his career even though they are pretty close in age.
A Murray/Matthews/Sproles 1-2-3 could be deadly given the way Chip wants to run that offense. This of course comes with the caveat that those top 2 stay healthy. Part of me wonders if a big part of the pitch to Murray was "Hey, you will get a lighter workload, which is going to extend your longevity."
As a Redskins fan...this sucks..but man I REALLY want to see RMFW be successful in the league. Just wish it didn't have to be on the stupid cowboys...lol
Well.... Dallas found their replacement for Murray.... in Darren McFadden
2 years, $5.85m
As someone who doesn't really particularly like the Cowboys in any regard, I think this about sums up my thoughts on their RB situation after the last couple days...

To be fair though, McFadden was hit in the backfield so many times, and it'll be a totally different experience behind that line Dallas has.
Is felix jones still in Dallas? Arkansas reunion. Jones loves his Arkansas boys
He played for Pittsburgh in 2013, wasn't on a team last year.
