So before you go crazy on the comments, I am a "pure blood" Hokie (Dad '82, Mom '85, Me '10) and was wearing VT gear when I was in middle school (by choice). I married a Hokie, like that was even an option, and we are expecting our first born in May. Many things are discussed having a kid and of course the biggest one is the name. Now my wife was set on the letter "C" and I just let her list some names. One of those names was "Cole" but I couldn't see it spelled any other way then COALE. She didn't buy it at first but it eventually sank in and speaking with family they bought into it as well!!
Well the baby shower comes up and other then just a joke that we named our first born after one of the most impressive/ humble receivers I have seen play at VT... my mother went the extra mile for a gift. The top gift in my opinion besides the numerous VT baby stuff was a autographed poster signed by none other then Danny "It was a Catch" Coale! She some how contacted him by email and he was completely fine by it but as expected humbled by our name selection and my career (Active Duty Military). A wrote very well thought out letter to us and showed excitement for me and my wife and wished us the best and sent us two autographed posters with a well written message to our family and to our future son.
As much as I am joyed to see his response... is this too much? By all means I got the name watching him play at VT in person and on TV and my wife loved a name starting with "C". I respect the man on the field but his message definitely gets some "legs" if he was o
n this site. I can't wait to show my future son "The Comeback", "It was a catch", and the ACCCG against Florida State (all games I witnessed). Anyways, I have been hesitant to put this up but I like to hear your opinions, have we gone too far?
P.S. Tyrod didn't fly with my wife... lol

Unless his middle name is Seven-Eleven you have not gone far enough!
I wonder if they will even be delivering newspapers by the time your son is old enough to get a paper route; if so there is some circuitous synergy there
Congrats, and that is a strong name for y'alls son.
And thank you for your service.
"Hats Off" to name & future wide receiver son.
I think the fact you came up with the name "Cole" organically and decided to change the spelling because of Danny Coale makes it far less crazy.
That name sounds great. Maybe the middle name could be Nicolas... As long as no one here names their daughter "Virginia Tess" it's all good in my book.
And if she ever was on ESPN, the announcers would call her 'Vah-tess' and annoy the piss out of us.
Good form, old man.
Itwasa Catch!
A couple I knew in college met and got engaged in Lane. So they named their first son Lane.
Sam and Christian Ponder named their daughter Bowden after Bobby.
This seems normal. In Ohio do you have any idea how many "Scarlett's" and some version of "gray" there are?
As a fellow father, do you. Don't care what folks think. It's a great name; strong, hard, respectful and with great lineage. Congrats to you and your wife. Awesome nursery setup too.
Absolutely. While not related, I see it as like naming your child after someone in your family that meant a lot to you. You may honor a grandfather or other relative because they were special to you and shaped who you are, well for a lot of CFB fans, the school and players shape who you are as well. My kids middle names are Eric (after Eric Berry) and Allan (after Al Wilson)
Speaking of babies, as anyone found a quality newborn Hokies sleeper or onesie? We got one for my oldest 4 years ago and it was crap. Could find nothing for my now 2 year old and newest child, third girl, is due in June. Want to find some newborn Hokie gear for her.
Where do you live? Most of the Northern Virginia Targets carry 3 packs of Tech onesies from mid-summer to mid-fall. Campus Emporium and Belk also have a selection of baby stuff.
Currently SC previously Ohio. Campus Emporium online is where we got the cheaply made crap.
I fully support this but I think it should be tested to make sure it's valid. Therefore, and I know this sounds dangerous, throw your son randomly into a crowd of people and wait.... Danny should catch him.
Seriously though, congrats on the baby boy. Great name.
Anything short of my user name should be good.
Make sure you wait until he's old enough to show him The Catch. It's some pretty traumatizing stuff.
Just stop the recording after the initially rule it a TD
Is that not when it stops???
For what it's worth. I named my youngest son Coale too.
and my heart just grew 3 sizes.
I'm man enough to admit that I reacted like a 10 year old girl to this
Coale was going to be the name of my dog as well had it been a boy. Instead we have a girl named Laney. If we get another girl, it will be Cassie for Cassell.
My other dog is Cal. I have a rule that we need to have male dogs, so I can name them after athletes.
Cute puppy, cool name, but don't make the mistake of thinking all athletes are men. Around my house, a comment like that could mean some tight lips and a lot of "but honey, I didn't mean it THAT way" kind of noise from me, while I duck the hard thrown tennis racket aimed at my head and my two female dogs take snarling aim at my crotch.
You should've named her Lana
If I ever have a kid, I'm planning on naming him (or her) Frank Michael Vick Foster
It's not to late to change his name to Chalupa Batman!
All joking aside. It's an awesome name and best of luck to Danny in whatever it thrown his way in the future!
starts with a "C"? Cartoons
but seriously, Cole is a good one for sure
Wait, so some people think that if I have two kids their first and middle names can only consist of Sam and Rogers? Also with my last name being Eggleston I think it would be cool to name the first kid I have Hall. Who doesn't like Eggleston, Hall? Now I just need to find a consenting female...
"West" is an actual given name. #ijs
I'd be willing to compromise to "Main", but at the cost of me getting to have my midlife crisis 5 years sooner.
My first 2 kids names will be Pritchard, and New Residence Hall East
I thought one time about what it would take donation wise to get either of the utilitarian named New Res buildings named after me. I realized I didn't have the cash and would have to jump in front of Steger's car at the crosswalk in front of Burress and include the naming rights in the settlement.
Serious statement here: they renamed West to P-Y while I was there. I still don't know why they couldn't name one building Peddrew and the other Yates.
Had a friend in the seventies that got hit while on his motorcycle at a traffic light by the Blacksburg mayor's wife. All he got was three casts, several weeks in the hospital and a permanent limp. She was in the wrong, he was a hippie student...
Coale Cole dmt260 should be his name! Don't forget, we had a Michael Cole, too...
How about Coale Dadi?
Coale Dadi sounds like a bumper sticker you would see on a truck in Morgantown
Coale keeps the lights on!
Ron Mexico, seriously you guys are over thinking it.
Coale is a great name, and I like the alternative spelling. It will make your son standout. My wife and I welcomed our son, Lane, 2.5 years ago. Hokies through and through.
