Think there's no excuse for the student section not to be full and raucous for the entire season. Looking forward to seeing an announcement when these tickets are sold out.

Last time I bought student season tickets (2003 season), they were about $58. Still, compared to many other schools, $72 is an extremely good deal.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

So is this the base price only, and they're not including the $15 "convenience fee" that they used to have? When I was last at VT, tickets were $65, but they actually cost $80 because of the fee. While the price is still great, I always found it funny that I had to pay the school $15 to email me my ticket each week (which I know was automated) and then use my resources to print it.

The fee is still there, $81 total

You must be younger than me. They snail-mailed me my tickets.

I started at VT in Fall 2003. I got a few years of snail-mail tix in undergrad, and one year (2008?) of the plastic card. The rest of grad school were the "print-it-yourself" years.

Got you by two years then. And I wish I had ordered tickets during my one grad year there (2005) even though that was a bit of a disappointing season.

Card was 2007, my Sophomore year.

There will be a $9.00 fee added to each order to cover the cost of electronic processing and electronic delivery.

These convenience fees are pretty standard for any ticketing agency (concert tickets, sporting events, etc.). I've never really understood them. Wish there was a way to shed some light on what this money is used for.

That's my only issue. If that fee is integral to my purchase, then just put it in the price. I would rather VT tell me that tix cost $81 and be done with it. If there's some part that goes to overhead or whatever, that's their job to decide. Maybe the fee breakdown is transparency or something, but it's just funny. You have to have to tix emailed to you, so that should just be part of the price.

I guess they do it separately for one processing program? For the alumni we only get charged one processing fee regardless of how many tickets I order (1 or 4). That said, I wish my tickets were only $81. Maybe I should start taking one graduate class a year to be a "student" again.

Well since us students pay $141 for athletic fees per semester, the tickets actually cost students more than they do the public.

Yea not even close to being a comparison.

How is that not a close comparison? They charge student $282 for athletics, which is why our tickets are discounted. If you don't pay the athletic fee, which I'm pretty sure you can opt out of, then you don't get student ticket prices. I don't go to any sporting events but football (I know I should be going to bball games too), so my tickets cost me $363 and they are $350 for the public. That is actually an exact comparison.

The fee you pay also get you discounted tickets to EVERY sporting event ticket you purchase. Your choosing not to buy them doesn't mean your discount is not there.

Yes, but the proposition that I responded to was that it would save money to take a grad class and buy student tickets, and I am showing that it would not save you any money, it would in fact cost you $13. The way I see it, the only money that the athletic fee is saving me is on the tickets that I buy.

This rationale is like buying a Happy Meal just for the toy or a TV cable package just so you can watch a single TV show. Just because you aren't using everything that you paid for doesn't mean that what you are getting is price of the total cost. You just are not maximizing the value.

I wasn't complaining or anything, I was just saying that becoming a student for discounted football tickets would not be a good financial strategy.

It's because of the law. They have to tell you exactly what the taxes and fees are. Nowadays the venue doesn't sell tickets so they sell them to processing companies since they can do it cheaper and more efficiently than the venue can. The convenience, processing, and other fees are how the processing company makes their money off the tickets. VT gets the ticket price you see and the fees go to the government or processing company.

If VT was directly selling the tickets to everyone they'd probably be more expensive than what you'd pay now. That's at least how a manager at a concert hall told me when I kept asking thinking buying it at the venue would circumvent those fees. The $35 + $15 in fees for $50 total would probably be more along the lines of $60-65 if they had to have or lease their own system.

Everyone wins, except when Ticketmaster gets a monopoly on processing rights.

If I had to guess, I'd say its software licensing. The software that handles these large orders and automatically databases and sends you your tickets is probably astronomical. Also, the ticket cost is set by the venue/artist and the profit for ticketmaster soley comes from the fee.

I always thought this would be a great project for a group in our CS department. You can't tell me that you can't put together a few students, a professor or two, and come up with a totally VT-owned system.

Did they always charge students?? I don't ever remember paying for tickets as a student in 99-03......I do remember camping out but always seemed to find free tickets somewhere.....

Single-game tickets were always part of the fees package (i.e. no extra cost). Season tickets were always at cost.

At the risk of sounding old (probably because I am), in the early 80's when I was in school, we never had to pay for tickets. Just had to go sit in Cassel where the ticket office was at the time (don't know if it's still there or not). There were some games that there was no need to camp out there, just walk up, present your student ID, get your ticket. I think I'm right that you could even bring other student's IDs for more tickets. There were some games you had to camp out in the concourse for tickets, like FSU or Clemson.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

This is how I saw my only game IN Lane, my cousin went to school there in early 90's, handed me a student ticket, I was in early middle school, and we just walked in.

The ticket office is now in Lane Stadium

Trying to decide if I should have my girlfriend's cousin buy 2 guest tickets. Might be the best way to get into the Ohio State game without taking out a mortgage, and even if I only go to 1-2 other games this year and have to sell the rest I bet I'll be able to recoup at least something close to the $50/game per seat.

Thoughts?

@historyhokie.bsky.social

I was thinking of having one of my friends do the same thing, since I got a job in VA Beach and will likely be back for several other games following ohio state.

I think I'm your new best friend (at least for the OSU game) if you do this.

They are still cheap and would be worth it at twice that price, but this is more expensive than last year for one less game.

Well I have one final year of being able to sell my soul to get into all the football games (MVs), which I do gladly. Really not looking forward to the year after when I have to produce currency.

Not being in MVs is easily my least favorite thing about being out of school, and the game admission situation (as well as travel expenses to away games/postseason) is a definite contributor.

OH GOD. I WON'T GET PER DIEM FOR BOWL GAMES ANY MORE! I'm really rethinking my future role as a productive and responsible adult now.

I was a horrible MV. Do I miss games? Yes. Do I miss per diem? Heck yes. Do I miss everything else about MV's? eeeeehhhh...

Looking to get 3 season tickets and had a couple questions for you guys

1. Will the three tickets definitely be together

2. How does section/row selection work

3. What is an acceptable answer for "seating preferences"

Public not student

Tell your friends if they can't make it, OSU fans will gladly buy their tickets for $200 on stub hub and fill our stadium for us.

Be careful with your tickets.
