Before I left for class today I caught the SportsCenter top ten and who do I see coming in at #2? The Virginia Tech baseball team!
I can't find a link to the SC top ten but I can link the play that made #2.
What a beautiful play.

That truly was a thing of beauty.
Also only the sort of shit you'd see at a lower level of competition which is what makes minor league/college baseball so much fun.
Believe it or not, I've seen that sort of thing at the pro level before. Usually when an OF makes a catch on a ball that no one figured he'd get to.
Eh... I think that was rather poor base running. They had no outs with runners on 1st and 2nd. Go halfway and if it's caught you don't get double off and if it drops you either have bases loaded or the runners still might have a chance at 2 bases (especially if it gets by a diving OF). The risk of aggressive baserunning in that situation greatly outweighed the potential reward.
Yeah, this was really bad baseball. It appears they were reading the centerfielder, who ended up being the cutoff man. The man on 2nd goes back to tag up first, so he at least originally thought it would get caught. This should never happen. I don't think I've ever seen an OF triple play that wasn't really dumb baserunning.
Oh, it was bad baserunning at the MLB level too. lol
Case in point, my beloved SF Giants.
CF wasn't cutoff, he was trying to backup the RF. 2B was the cutoff.
I disagree with bad baseball. There aren't very many pros, let alone college players that make that catch. The man on 1st, specifically looks at the Hokie RF, trying to read the play. Without knowing the score or inning at the time of the catch, I'll withhold judgment whether the players should have held up on the base paths. However, the hit looked like a sure double (maybe triple) in the gap.
Yeah I meant to say back up, not cutoff.
I struggle to think of any situation in baseball where a team should risk an entire inning on one play with the exception of being down a boatload. It was a 3-3 tie game in the top of the 3rd with no outs with runners on 1st and 2nd. Absolutely no reason to take that much of a risk.
I agree the runner on 1st seems to look toward the outfield and decides there is no reason to even slow down, which was obviously a huge mistake. However, you can see the runner on 2nd goes back toward the bag when the ball is in the air and I wouldn't be surprised if he felt compelled to run due to the other runner charging around the bases at full speed. It was a nice catch but it was also close enough that the worst case scenario should have been the runners were halfway waiting to see the ball land and would maybe start to move toward the next base before seeing the catch made and rushing back. At the end of the day the catch was the same quality regardless of if it had resulted in a triple play or not and I don't believe it should have resulting in a triple play if not for poor base running.
So last night SportsCenter had a Twitter vote for who should be number 2 behind ODU's buzzer beater. It was us vs. a DeAndre Jordan dunk and we got 62% of the vote
I thought they "retired" the TV logo (along with the gobbler)? Or was that just for football? Or am I just "misremembering?"
I thought so too, glad they didn't as this is by far our best looking jersey.
Its a shame Tech doesn't sell more baseball gear - I'd buy one of these in a heartbeat!
No new production of items with "old" logos. Anything purchased or on hand before the "retirement" can be used. Baseball has a bunch of stuff with those logos.
Can anyone tell me if this was more outs than LOLUVA had fans at their spring game?
Sorry, complete lack of TKP meme's on this thread.
Sorry. I had a doughnut this morning, but it was not fully dipped.
And I plan to have chocolate cream pie for dessert tonight while listening to the baseball game, will that help?
Alex Perez's Jeter-esque play in the hole today made it up to #8 on the SC Top 10 this morning. Pretty cool to see Hokies Baseball make two Top 10's in the same week.
