I'm sure a lot of you guys have seen the Microsoft commerical with Prof. Wu Feng, if not here's the link:
All I got to say is that this bro encompasses both "Ut Prosim" and "Invent the Future" as best as anyone can imagine. He's a Hokie through and through.

Guy's fire, yo
lovely self-portrait
Prof. Feng is pretty chill, I had him for one class early on, and could have had him for another class if I hadn't taken the broadcast version the semester before.
WU FENG! *throws up W with hands*
Wu Feng is for the children.
Wu Feng, man, ain't nuthin' to f**k with.
Awesome. Thx for sharing!
I had access to all of VT's computing resources while in grad school (which was awesome), but thanks to Wu Feng's generosity I was allowed access to his brand-spanking-new (at the time) GPU cluster to do some massive projects that needed serious horsepower. I always appreciated that. Nice guy, and a definite boon to the university.

I've got a pretty negative opinion of Wu Feng. I had him for Comp Org I (CS2506) and he left about 2 weeks into the semester to promote his research and was gone until the last week. He didn't give his TA's notice and expected them to teach the entire course to us.
I'm sure he's a brilliant man, but he definitely put his research WAY ahead of his teaching responsibilities.
I don't know anything about him, but it's not beyond the realm of possibility that whoever is funding his research told him they needed him to go tour/market it and gave him no notice. Based off the commercial, there is A LOT of value is the research he's doing and the company(ies) funding it probably want to do a dog a pony show. Your experience might have been completely out of his control.
At some point, someone put that ahead of my education that i was paying a lot of money for. If it was out of his control, he didn't do much to convey that to us. It left a very sour taste in my mouth about the relationship between Professors and teaching/research.
Like I said I don't know the specifics but my guess is that he makes more off the research than the teaching...as does the school. It's obviously not ideal and you have a right to be frustrated.
There's a pecking order at VT and all universities and research is way higher than undergrad teaching. It frustrated me, but that's how it is.
Oh no, i definitely understand that college is a business at the end of the day. Just expressing my frustration with this situation and how he handled it.
