Virginia Tech will square off against Northwestern in the 2015 Big Ten/ACC Challenge. It's the first men's basketball game between the two programs ever. About the only thing the Hokies and Wildcats have in common is Joey van Zegeren. The former Tech big transferred to Northwestern and is eligible to play this season.
Dates and matchups are covered in the graphic below. Times and networks will be announced in August. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 14 games of the event.

Seems like they would have been a better fit with Georgia Tech.
So I believe we're confirmed to play against Adam Smith, JVZ, and Robert Brown (UAB) next year. Should we add Richmond (Marshall Wood), SMU (Emelogu), Ohio St (Thompson), and Florida (Finney Smith) just to make things more interesting?
That would be the second Ohio State team we would beat this upcoming year.
My gosh that's a lot of schools and a lot of really good players we've lost. Knew it had been a lot, but when you state it like that it really makes you cringe.
Notre Dame vs Illinois is an interesting matchup. There's a good deal of overlap in the two fan-bases.
Good matchup. Always fun to play P5 teams that we have never hit the court with before.
One team has never been to the NCAA tournament, the other has won 20 games the last 2 years combined.
Can't.Stop.Pulse.From.Racing!
Be still my beating heart - that's just got "noon tipoff" written all over it!
The NCAA has granted a special request from one of our former ADs, who made the request based on a survey of his best bros, that this game be played as soon as the first light of day hits Cassel. It is also known as the 'Golden Hour' where recording music is best.
(please someone get that last reference).
Entire family is NU grads (except for me) so this should be a fun one to watch.
Oh man I really hope you get bragging rights afterward. I have a bunch of family who have UConn ties and when we beat them in the NIT a few years back, it was glorious
It wouldn't be so much as bragging rights as it would just be "I knew that would happen". Northwestern alumni have one of the most jaded perceptions of any sports fan I've heard of. They know how to blow a lead or lose outright better than anyone and their fans know it and expect it, no matter what the opponent, when or where. They expect to lose as much as we expect Bud Foster to punch UVA in the neck every year.
That pretty much takes all the fun out of it then. They almost sound as bad, if not worse than DC sports fans
YAY...... question mark.
I thought we were supposed to have to sit this one out this year. Wonder why it was GT instead?
Welcome to TKP
...but I gotta ask...what exactly do you mean by "Alternating"?
He started out at Hogwarts... Transfiguration Major. Transferred to Virginia Tech after numerous run ins with McGonagall.
Duh.
I actually sell alternators.
Obviously I had no creativity when I made my user name
Pretty sure because we won an ACC Tourney game and GT didn't.
Curious about your TKP name: Guessing....Electrical Engineer? Fan of Tesla?
So Joey can play immediately since he graduated right? Sheesh, watch him go off and have a career night.
I hope he does: scores 50, gets a standing ovation...and we win 51-50.
Man I hope we wax that ass to stick it to Wilbon since he has always shit on us!
Isn't Wilbon's wife a UVA grad? But yeah, bump him. Kornheiser is the only reason I watch PTI anyways.
Is she? that would make sense. To be honest that is the only show I still watch on ESECPN aside from live sporting events. Maybe because my favorite show growing up was the muppets I learned to enjoy too old dudes taking popshots at everyone...
Only other show I really watch/listen to on ESPN is SVP & Russillo, but sadly that show is coming to an end.
Yeah, I heard them talking about it yesterday. What's the deal?
Who knew we'd ever have NCAA Tournament bragging rights over a power conference opponent?
Sweet!
I so want this type of challenge in football.
This draws me back to VT BB.......
Well this will be an interesting game now. Northwestern landed JVZ:
