Haskins is a talented prospect, and he's embraced being the next face of Maryland's program. Keep an eye out to see if he gains any traction with convincing other top DMV recruits in this cycle and beyond to join him at Maryland.

obviously Diggs and possibly Tino Ellis could start a huge DMV movement
Yeah it's a shame they got his verbal, but I don't think that's a deal-breaker with our current staff. I'd be sorely disappointed, if they don't keep pursuing him. At least one solid QB commit for each class is imperative, even though I believe what we have now and incoming on the roster should pay off very soon.
exactly we got Lawson which is huge.. we need Oline and Dline help for sure keep a QB in every other class and I'm happy
It's not Haskins that makes this news, it's the effect it could have on Tino Ellis, who we badly need
At least VT has D. Lawson coming in but I wish nothing but luck to Haskins
who is even coaching at MD these days?
Randy "Let Me Sell You A Used Car" Edsall
I wonder if he used the 30 on 30: The U as a recruiting tool like Coach Fondue did a few years back.
how that man is still employed boggles my mind. I would love to play against MD in a bowl game and just decimate them. I'm still pissed about our last game with them
Two more games. When we played them 2 seasons ago the overall series was tied. Now they've got the lead so we need two consecutive Ws to not only tie it but also take the overall lead.
Good luck to him...
Going to school in College Park, he'll need as much luck as he can get
Good for him! Trying to be the face of the program in his home state. Although I hate losing out on him, I'm kind of glad that it isn't a FSU/Alabama type school.
I hate losing out on big-time prospects but I'm okay with this one because we have Lawson coming in.....obviously there is competition to beat him out if he wants a starting role (honestly I don't know how teams like OSU are able to hold on to 3 high caliber QBs, maybe one was just underratted or something....anyhow another thread for that), but I am 100% with you on this one. If we don't get the high caliber player I would much rather see them go to another mid-to good school or even a not so good school then one of the perennial powers that just seem to re-load every year. unless it's to a school that we play every year, like UVA!!
Ohio State is a blue blood, so it's easier to hold on to talent. Also, Cardale Jones was underrated (3* on rivals and 247 composite) and Texas and Texas A&M didn't bother to recruit J.T. Barrett.
At least he'll get to spend Christmas and New Years at home :)
There's now a bowl game in College Park?.....\sarcastica
Good luck to him, I hope he works out at MD. I really think he saw our current QB depth chart and figured he'd have a faster chance at the field at MD. I don't know that, obviously, since I have no #sources, but it seems logical.
Why should he be scared of VT's depth chart? Brewer will be gone, Ford/Durkin haven't shown much, and Lawson isn't even on campus and no one knows what he will do on the collegiate level.
Just numbers. He'd be starting behind Lawson, Ford, Durkin, and Motley. That's a lot to overcome if you want to play early
There is going to be 4 or more quarterbacks at most major colleges. Cardale Jones has a backup or two also. You can't worry about that when you are coming in. If you are a four or five star guy, chances are you are 1 of only 2 at that level, you're going to have to earn it regardless
At the same time, when is the last time a Maryland backup QB didn't see significant playing time? 2006? When's the last time a VT backup QB did? 2008 with Glennon?
He wasn't coming here.
I wonder what the story was on Byrd. I really liked him, now we get to see him at UNC. Did we back off him? Did he get spooked by Lawson?
For Byrd, my impression was it's a combination of getting spooked by Lawson and more offers coming in allowing him to go elsewhere.
Would be interesting to see if he sticks if Jawon Pass commits to them, though I don't really think he will.
Ray of hope?
I'm hoping Riley is working on him every day.
Riley us his cousin, right?
Yes. Cam Phillips is also his former teammate.
This is a very big factor.
We are still in good shape with Ellis. He is not a Maryland lock by any means and I would even say that we are more likely to land him than them at the current moment.
I guess that move to the Big10 payed off. Here's to hoping the other MD players on Tech's radar see the light and head south to Blacksburg.
It really has. They have enough cash now to handle their debt. Hoops has rebounded. Biggest problem they have now is Edsall, he's a dud. There was talk of him to VT is Frank had retired around 2008.
Talk about dodging a bullet!
UMd has always been like UVA. A few big names, but not much of a supporting cast.
Let's see where they finish up in February.
