Nice one Andy. Love reading the insider tales.

Leonard. Duh.

I remember this:

our students had this thing when they introduced the visiting team, they'd all stand up and then they'd hold newspapers up in front of them. And in that particular game, that was packed and Marquette's coach Al McGuire and Hank Raymonds were over here, and the team was out. And our students were standing up and it was just wall-to-wall newspapers in those three sections on that side.

That was pretty cool. I also remember the students all turning their backs to the court and getting real quiet during visitor team intros as well. When an entire side of Cassell did this, the cameras would notice.

I would LOVE if this was a thing during free throws. Not all free throws, just important ones at the end of games, and not all the time rather randomly. It's the old belief that players are used to tuning out the noise but not the silence. Some light pops up somewhere and everyone in the stands goes silent and turns around.

Holding up iPads today wouldn't have the same effect.

Can you even get to a newspaper on an iPad behind all the paywalls? /s

I'm sensing a little bit of spite here...

No, AB goes out of his way to make sure his readers can actually get to his content, he tells you how to access it behind paywalls.

uh... i think you meant:

he tells you how to access it behind paywalls. that you really should subscribe to read the content because subverting the hand that feeds him is a no no and AB would never do that.

I know. But as a journalist, I'm sure there has to be some anger over the obsolescence of the newspaper resulting from technological advances...

Onward and upward

now you're getting into some interesting debate territory. Should the anger be directed at technology or at the newspaper company that can't find financial success digitally?

In AB's comment it is the literal issue of using ipads to cover ones face instead of newspapers with said ipad's lack of effectiveness. A difficult task for sure, unless all the fan's synced them together to create one singular image at much larger ratios, such as a hokie bird give you the stink eye.

Tablets in hand during free throws. Activate full screen strobe lighting. Turn screen towards shooter.

Chaos ensues.

Thanks for sharing, Andy. Both my dad and I have worked with Dave. He's a consummate professional, and will be missed. Pete Moris has big shoes to fill, but I'm confident he'll be good as well.
