I'll edit and update once more comes out, but apparently this guy was infamous in the SEC for bad calls. Fans hated him. Just from searching his name I've come across various petitions to end his career in the SEC. Looks like they can rejoice...His SEC days are over.
I haven't come across anything that looks official yet, so ...we'll see I guess.
Fans react:

Coming to the ACC? They certainly seem to think so.

meh
Penn Wagers AND Ron Cherry?
Why?
Ron Cherry is at least entertaining. Besides, I don't recall him every blatantly screwing over a team any more than any other decent official.
As for Wagers, one of the posters on the Arkansas site put it perfectly:
Officials are supposed to control and direct the game into a football game. That is, make sure it's played within the rules and no one's being a dick and then just stay out of the way and let guys make plays within the rules of the game. Refs who make it all about themselves and try to make their performance the center of attention and have such a big ego they feel the need to drastically impact the outcome of the game with each call are the worst. Unfortunately, that's what it seems like we're in for with Wagers.
Fun story: the guy who did the original "giving him the business" call was the head of officiating when Cherry made that call. In fact, he bet Cherry a full game's pay that he wouldn't make the same call on TV during a game. So by making that call, Cherry made about another 2 grand.
So... in some indirect way, refs were betting on games?
Yep.
Well, betting is a loosely defined term.
YTMND references? Hell yeah!
If Wagers is as bad as some reports seem to indicate, what the hell is wrong with the ACC?
Another #GOACC move?
I know I just used this one in another thread, but seems to fit here too...
Well that is an unfortunate combination of surname and occupation.
As long as it's not the Pac-12 guy from the Sugar Bowl, I think I'll cope.
Overall I don't want ANY refs from the pac12, worst of the lot.
Have you checked out glasses ref's Twitter feed though? It was hilarious.
Glasses Ref was the official in that Sugar Bowl.
Ugh, that makes me sick
Hey, he got the call right. The flag pictured here was so severe the entire Michigan team had to leave the stadium and we won 3-0, remember?
