Tech has gone to a more position-focused approach with many players in the recruiting process, getting the person who will actually work with the player to be a part of the pitch.
isn't this kind of a no-brainer? Have we seriously not done this before?

Alot of recruiting is about relationships. Recruiter to the high school coaches etc. having coaches have defined areas so they got to know the schools in that area was the game.

This is correct, but we really were very slow to change on this. Having the relationship with the school and coaches is only the doorway in. That should never change. What has changed, for the better, is that once that coach has created the doorway and has a viable recruit he brings in the position coach. That's key, and it took too long for us to make that change.

this is more of what I was referring to. I have no issue with having coaches cover regions regardless of which position they coach. I believe that is the correct way to go about it. Build relationships with HS coaches and create openings to start the recruitment of certain players. What seems weird to me is that once a player was identified as a target the natural first step in my mind would be to introduce the specific position coach to the equation and that was a step that VT wasn't taking.

To be fair, I don't think it was that we were keeping recruits from position coaches, rather that we were depending on the Area recruiter to establish the bond and get them on campus where the position coach would be able to speak with them more. As opposed to just sending the position coach to their school and home. In the end, it's all about time and money.

okay. I honestly don't know very much about the recruiting process as I've never really followed it closely. It was starting to sound like VT hadn't been involving position coaches in the process until just recently and that sounded strange to me. thanks for helping to paint a bit of a clearer picture for me.
