I was wondering if Joe (or anyone else in the community) has been getting some video ads that seem to have an annoying trait to them.
What I'm experiencing (usually only when browsing a forum post) is a video ad that when it starts playing, pulls the page view up to the ad location repeatedly for several seconds, before allowing me to continue scrolling. It seems like the video will refresh after a minute or two and do the same thing over again. It's a rather annoying thing to be scrolling down a thread and suddenly be pulled back to the top of the page, so I don't know if these ads can be removed from the rotation, or if anyone else is even experiencing this.

Yeah man, both my home and work computers. Those things are breaking my balls.
Same here. Does it while I'm working and the internet is minimized so I have hurry
and refresh the page before I tell on myself to my co-workers...
nice.
Still get my work done...which is more than my co-workers can say. :)
That happens to me as well (on my work PC). And you cannot pause or stop them either, despite there clearly being a pause button on the little screen. Refeshing works sometimes, but then I cannot easily identify unread comments.
For me it is usually the new Maytag guy. Which is a shame because I kind of liked the show Eureka that he was on, but now I am really starting to hate his face.
Edit: It only happens on my work PC running IE9. I do not have issues with it on my phone or at home where I only use Chrome.
This has been happening to me every now and then for a few days now.
I experienced that for the first time about 3 weeks ago. It's super annoying but if you hit the pause button on the video the first time it happens you can resume what you were reading more quickly. I have also noticed that it seems to happen in spurts. Just the other day it happened to me on like 3 or 4 threads in a row but I haven't had it happen again in 3 or 4 days
So. Presumably, you would be using Google Chrome (b/c what else works as well?)
Seeing as how I have not yet (knock on wood) had this problem, have you tried using the AdBlock extension? (It has done wonders for me so far)
Using AdBlock on TKP is not the best way to support the site.
I have adblock on every site on my work computer. At home, I whitelist keyplay
I used to not adblock this site until the ads started getting out of hand. If an ad forces my browser to move my page location to it, constantly refreshes a poorly optimized and resource intensive flash object, or wont let me at least mute it I'm done.
Getting this site to work is basically a coin flip if I don't recognize what type of ad is displayed before it begins to fully load.
There were ads that were an exploit of GoogleAds that were fixed a while back. It wasn't just TKP, someone was slamming the entire 'Net with those until Google shut them down (though it took a while). Those were spamtastic and hard to block on an individual level because it looks like there were multiple versions of them with a bunch of redirects.
I have not had a problem with TKP since. Using Chrome with disabled plugins, but TKP whitelisted. I occasionally get a "pop-up blocked" message, which may have to do with the spammy ads that people are talking about here, but I'm not actually having a problem.
I don't think so. I'm sitting here staring at hog of a Nissan flash ad right now. The verizon one doesn't really affect much, but that fucking rotating cube one is awful. They aren't too bad on comment pages, but they're horrendous when you are on a thread that leaves the ad off screen or have any active content. It's not entirely Joe's fault, it's the amount of money these ads give you compared to the static ones or the GIF ones. I know because I use AdSense on my website and have those blocked because it already uses enough resources without taking the performance hit from those things.
Actually GuitarMan brings up a great point. Disabling plugins is the biggest win. Go do this now.
Most websites were becoming insufferable. I pretty much only have TKP, ESPN, YouTube, and the PDF plugin whitelisted. Everything else has to be told to run.
on this note, is there any way to know how much Joe makes per page view? I'd love to put Adblock on and just send him a check for what he misses out on (assuming it's not like a million dollars, in which case, bring on the ads).
As others have stated, I've got TKP whitelisted on ad block, because I don't make enough money to support TKP any other way.
Gah, that's what was happening to me the other day! But there wasn't a video, it would just keep auto scrolling back up the page... was driving me nuts! I haven't had it happen since then, though, thank goodness!
I use safari on the iPad and PC and explorer on the PC for school and have never seen a video or pop up ad, beside that crazy Google stuff a few months back.
YES! Dear Jesus I'm glad I'm not the only one.
On the flip side this means I can't cuss my laptop for being a piece of crap when it happens.
I don't have any problems. My computer loves me.

Just the kinda guy I am.
I'm on Firefox and apparently there is a gremlin on TKP which informs me, despite that I have manually paused the Galaxy S 6 ad that He is Steve Martin and He is the overachiever. also, apparently I am to be congratulated, I earned it.
It has been happening to me as well, on my macbook air using chrome. Ironically while trying to scroll this very page.
So, can anything be done about this? It's super hard to read or write comments when its doing this. Its happened four times while trying to type this comment. Goddamn you Castrol GTX.
When this happens on a page, did you click the new comments link to jump you to the latest comment?
That is normally how I jump into threads. I did to get on this page and its done it several times trying to type this reply.
It's happened to me and I have never used the "#" function. It has happened to me just while reading through a longer post/article before I even used the "n" key or any other functions in the comments.
what is this pound symbol thing everyone is talkin' about? what functionality does it have?
I thought Joe meant clicking on the new comments link. Haha I dont computer very well sometimes.
Yes, that is what I meant.
OK, well there goes that idea. I am trying my best to get it resolved. In the mean time I apologize for the inconvenience.
No problems Joe. Thankfully it doesn't happen that often in the rotation of ads, and I'm willing to just put up with it and leave TKP whitelisted. I mostly just wanted to make sure I wasn't just going insane.
That is no proof you are not going, or, are not insane.
