When was the last team we had a preseason unanimous first team all american?

Jimmy Williams maybe?

jayron hosley (didn't he lead the year in ints the year before he got drafted?), macho harris or Brandon flowers maybe? jake grove?

Yea probably Jayron after returning as the league leader in ints.

Is it just me or is it really easy to sort of forget how amazing Jayron was because he was gone so fast?

That and you don't hear his name on Subday.

Shit, is he already making sandwiches for a living? Thought he would last longer in the NFL.

Hosley was suspended for a failed drug test for a bit and he hasn't cracked the starting lineup yet. This year will be the big year, does he make the 53 man roster at all.

Edit: just saw my "Subday" autocorrect.

I almost made a reference to Jarred from Subway but I let it slide.

Preseason

...how's the Fuller cloning/farming project coming along, anybody got updates?

But seriously, well deserved...And he's going to prove them right all year long, starting with OSU

What are the conditions for getting your name hung on a banner in Lane? Unanimous AA or just "All-American?"

Because Kendall might be able to get his name on a banner after this year.

I think there is a little bit of room for play in the standard, but I think it's usually First Team All American on an established list or other major national award.

In 2002, the Virginia Tech athletics department developed a new policy on retiring jerseys. This special honor is bestowed to acknowledge an individual who has won an established national award in their sport, while allowing the number to continue to be worn by others. Tech will no longer retire numbers.

Edit: I found another link and it looks like at least the more recent examples have involved players doing more than just making an All American list:
http://www.hokiesports.com/football/jerseys/

There have been five jersey's retired since the new standard was set in 2002:

Frank Beamer
Winner of eight national coach of the year awards following the 1999 season

Michael Vick
Winner of the 2000 ESPY as College Football's Performer of the Year

Cornell Brown
Named the Football News 1995 National Defensive Player of the Year

Jake Grove
Awarded the Rimington Award, given to the nation's top collegiate center, following the 2003 season.

Corey Moore
Won the 1999 Bronko Nagurski Award as college football's defensive player of the year. the 1999 Lombardi Award as college football's lineman of the year, and the 1999 Football News' Defensive Player of the Year.

Edit: Moore was a unanimous All American
Brown was a consensus All American (5 All American Lists)
Grove was listed as making all five major All American Lists.

I'm not sure if there's any significance to Grove's profile not listing him as a consensus or unanimous All American since he was on the same number of lists as Brown. He may have been on different lists different years or possibly some of Brown's were on lists not considered part of the major AA lists.

I thought the new rule was win a national award?

Grove won the Rimington.
