Many of us may bemoan the fact that Kyshoen got picked up by the Redskins but he has at least done a good job catching his coaches attention with his work at OTA's.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden:
"Kyshoen has done an excellent job, man. He's fast. He's flying around. He's making his presence known on special teams," Gruden said. "I mentioned that the late-round picks [are] going to have to make their mark on special teams, and Kyshoen has done that."
The article gives a good indication of how Kyshoen is making an impact even when not directly involved in the play.
The play ended with Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith defending a corner pass in the end zone to receiver Colin Lockett. The coverage was perfect and Cromartie-Smith, a corner, turned around at the exact right moment to nearly intercept the ball.
But the reason he turned around? Because Jarrett was sprinting over and yelling, "Ball! Ball! Ball!" And that prompted a big reaction from his teammates.
Lets hope he keeps up the good work and gets a good chance to make an impact this upcoming season. The safety position is very fluid on the Redskins so he could work his way into a starting job with a couple bounces his way.

Hmmm.. his ESPN player page, and the Redskins' roster both have Kyshoen listed as a running back. I'm sure that is an oversight on ESPN's part, wouldn't be the first, but interesting. Good to see him making an early impact.
Edit: The official Redskins' page has him listed at DB.. so yeah ESPN being ESPN.
make an impact, you say? Hell, that's all he knows how to do...
He can do is against all teams except my Giants!
This clip is soooo hypnotic. Even when I consciously refuse to stare at it, it sucks about 7 minutes from me.
I knew KJ had the work ethic and talent to make it to the NFL before he even stepped on campus. The way he takes care of his disabled brother is a real inspiration and showed how mature and dedicated he was even in high school. The only question was if he could avoid injuries and get the chances he needed to make an NFL squad.
Fingers crossed for KJ to make the Redskins this year, he's one of my all-time favorite Hokies.
still can't read KJ with respect to hokie football and without thinking "Kevin Jones."
Who bemoans him on the Skins? Regardless of your opinion of the Redskins, it's the perfect place for him to latch on - terrible safety (and dbs in general) for years, close to home... etc
Except for D. Hall. Breeland has come on as of this past season, so he's decent too. In any case, Washington has made several off-season changes to shore up the DB situation, so KJ's starting role won't be too easy to get.
If Kyshoen get significant playing time at safety this year, something definitely went wrong
Or he's just that awesome?
D. Hall is coming back from a ruptured Achilles, and could easily have lost a step - there's no way he can be counted on at this point. And I more meant safeties. Those have been a disaster for the last 3 or 4 years.
All indications is that he's full speed ahead, but holding out due to coaches being cautions. But yes safeties have been an issue.
didn't David Wilson lay that guy (Bashaud Breeland) out in the dismal loss to Clemson in 2011 at Lane on a kick return? And yes, Wilson was the returner. About the only highlight on a terrible night.
Good to see that Breeland recovered from that whuppin, didn't look like he was ever getting up
I think so - in either case you're correct that Breeland was a Clemson DB; weird though that I never heard is name standout as a good DB till he shined with Washington. Can't say I remember anything highlighty-worthy from his College days.
ha same here, when I saw him drafted i thought to myself "last time I saw him he was busy getting trucked by david wilson"...amazing that DW4 is no longer in the league and this guy has a promising career
To be fair, the only reason DW4 isn't in the league is that neck injury (which was something he was born with, IIRC).
Really? He got a bunch of hype his last year at Clemson. Ended up being 2nd team All-ACC.
The Redskins need all the help they can get, and far from "bemoaning" the move, I like to see VT players go to local NFL teams. Regional recruiting and all.
Special Teams is a great way for him to get noticed.
Sounds like he's focusing in on STs which is his key to make the roster. Best of luck to him.
STs is all about timing your routes and blocks. As this is one of KJ's strengths, I'd say hes focusing on the right area for now to make the team.
Uh, I was happy he was selected by the Redskins as a lot of other VT fans would say too with NoVA having a strong Hokie alum base.
As far as Im concerned, the Redskins got a steal. Kyshoen learned from the best , Beamerball and Lunch-pail are real. Kyshoen will make an impact on Special team this year.
