So I have been debating with several Hokie friends about whether or not to wait for Stubhub for Ohio State Tickets or to just buy the season tickets and try to sell off the remainder of the season (I live too far to make a season's worth of games). My vote is for season tickets under the assumption that I could sell the remaining 5 games for $150. I have people say over and others say no chance. Those of you who attend games routinely, O/U $150 for the 5 games not against anOSU?

I think you could get over $150, something I mentioned in the post earlier by USAFHokie. Here's the breakdown of the lowest prices on Stubhub for each game.
Furman: $17
Pitt: $43
NCSU: $35
Duke: $40
UNC: $33
That right there is $168. Now I think you can get more on each of the ACC games. I think $45-50 is where you could be for Pitt and UNC and then $40-45 for NCSU and Duke. It's possible you get all ACC games around $50 which is still under face value of $60. The problem is timing. Sell now and everything is hype based. Certain games will have a higher "value" based upon the names attached to them. Once the game gets closer, records and performance, both ours and our opponents, will drive the prices. Still, I believe you can sell all of the ACC games for around $40 regardless. Market to your local alumni association and utilize Blacksburg Craigslist to maximize opportunities for sales.
After fees and shipping, the actual recouped amount is lower than stubhub prices for any particular seats. Just make sure you calculate that in.
Seller fees are 15%, so on $50, $7.50 total. Shipping is dependent on the method use, but for tickets, less than $5 each. So with those numbers, selling all ACC tickets at $50 is $200 minus fees ($30) and shipping ($20) and you're at your $150 line. If your ACC tickets only sell for $40, you're at $160 minus fees ($24) and shipping ($20). This all assumes you can't sell the Furman ticket for even a marginal $20. This is why I said market to local alumni association though. Removes fees and shipping and provides an avenue to get a higher value. Same with Craigslist. No fees, just shipping.
I did not know this, although I am not surprised they take some cut. Thanks!
Sounds like you could at least come close to breaking even, so it's really more about the hassle factor.
$40 for Duke?
Based upon Duke's performance the last few years, yes. Also, an ACC game will already fetch at least that price at Lane for any opponent that isn't Wake Forest.
But isn't Wake a Rivalry game?
Yes, wake is one of those once every 8 year rivalries
also we have the 'our stadiums used to be identical' rivalries with them.
but no, we are not rivals with wake except to see who can put more fans in wake's stadium when we visit every decade.
Given the "hassle factor" of selling tickets, I'd just purchase the ones I want. Selling individual tickets (selling, shipping, collecting payment) takes time and effort.
Stubhub does all that in 5 minutes. Collecting payment right away or a business day after when purchased.
StubHub takes away the hassle, but also a good bit of any profit.
I used it many times, to sell Redskins tickets. Also Ebay and Craigslist.
My only comment upon reading this post is I am reminded how awful ACC scheduling is. Whit get on it, its unacceptable to me that for the foreseeable future we alternate Miami/GT/UVA home or away every single season.
Good point, but that sounds like the topic of a different thread to me. This topic is about trying to score tickets to the game where Virginia Tech faces the National Champion, so something went right in the scheduling here.
I think if we had more crossover games with the Atlantic Division that would cure a lot of the ills.
Yes, more games against Syracuse, Wake, NC State would cure a lot of ills...
You know what I mean Marc
I know, if we had Any of those or Clemson or FSU at home it would be a no brainer
You're better off buying a ticket off of stub hub closer to the date of the game than buying season tickets in my mind. More that likely one of the opponents we play at home other than Furman will not have a good record by the time we host them which leaves you with 3 tickets to sell at a reasonable price. The benefit of buying the season tickets is that you get a guaranteed maximum price that you paid for the game.
Well, rather than wondering "can I get $150 back for these other games," how about asking "how much can I get OSU tickets for by waiting for stub hub?" Even if you only get say $100 back, are you still saving on your target game? I guess I'm just reframing your original question a bit from a different angle, but oh well.
("
$59.99$59.96 Amazon Prime" - oh look, I've still got 2 cents!)Really I am waiting on VT to push out the season tickets for those who didn't get to pick their seats. Right now there is not much on Stubhub to choose from. At the same time, once they hit stubhub any of the Suckeye fans can also snatch them up, which sucks from a pricing and game standpoint
I'd guess the supply on that game ticket is going to be pretty tight all the way through.
I've been getting 4 season tickets since 2002 and can count on one hand how many times I've eaten a ticket. 3 of those 5 fingers where in the last 2 seasons, however. I ALWAYS get face value for them too. (I don't sell over face either). My advice: buy season tickets (Whit thanks you) and sell the ones you don't want before the season starts. Ive already sold all my extras for this season. TSL and Craigslist work great. Just my .02
Not to knock on your credibility, but you probably have decent seats after buying the last 13 years in a row. At face value, they're probably a good deal in comparison to say the face value of someone that just bought their first season ticket at the top of the South endzone. Purely speculation though...
On the contrary, getting 4 seats together is very valuable for families, regardless of the price and location.
I went into buying season tickets ($350) assuming that the Buckeye game is going to be around $250-300 on the secondary market. So making up for that $50-100 if I do choose to sell wouldn't be that hard since you have a Friday night game (NC State) and the Pitt, Duke, and UNC games will fetch you $30+ for all of them, possibly a lot more depending on what record Duke and UNC has at the time we play them, and the later the time for those games, the more $$$. But knowing me, I will be attending most if not all games.
