Drew Brees makes $1M commitment to Purdue football

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - As the Purdue Football Master Plan evolves, former Boilermaker All-America quarterback Drew Brees and his wife, Brittany, have committed $1 million to the football program.

Supposedly Purdue held a "summit" with alumni, former players and staff members of Purdue and worked out this plan to take Purdue football to the next level. I would love to see Whit get some Hokie Alumni players to donate even small sums to get the ball rolling for the next generation if improvements.

Does this means they get more than 2 lights? Because how does a Big Ten Stadium not have adequate lighting for night games!?!?!

I'm quite certain that Ohio State didnt have permanent lighting until last year. I believe the Tech game was the first game they were used for.

Good, good. So they could really see that ass whooping.

Yea...we blame uniform colors on losing so I can only imagine the hate those lights got.

A lot of Big Ten teams didn't get lights until the last 10 years or so.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Then why are we pushed into the noon ESPN slot? All those big 10 are all apparently in Amish country anyways. They're used to getting up early on Saturdays.

Because the Big Ten is taking up all of the 3:30 slots (since it's their primetime, apparently).

But the Big Ten has TV deals with both ESPN and Fox. So, they have more channels that their games can be spread around to. And they have a stipulation that their games have to be national, which forces the reverse mirror a lot. I think that has really decreased regional afternoon action on ABC in recent years.

This is exactly what Whit is trying to do at VT. Get those former players involved monetarily. A few big donors can really be a boon for a program. For proof, look no further than loluvawhowilllosetoFloridatoday's baseball program.

Edit: Credit where it's due, 'hoos advance to finals. Damn, somebody out there adopt our baseball program.

Didn't MV7 make a sizable donation once upon a time?

The QB meeting room is still named after him I think.

But most of his money the past years has just gone to pay off legal fees and from when he declared bankruptcy while in prison.

Seriously Mike you signed TWO 100 Million contracts and got good chunks of each, what happened man.

He's payed all that debt off.

But it still took him until after his time with the Eagle to do it. So I dont think we are going to be getting anything more from him, but we can enjoy him bounce from team to team to collect that back up pay check to build up his retirement fund.

Paying to keep Marcus alive and out of jail isn't cheap.

Once upon a time I was doing an inspection and found young Marcus scrubbing bilges in a future USN aircraft carrier at the shipyards in Newport News with his dad. Was both sad and gratifying at the same time...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

I understand, and share your feelings of ambivalence. I hope he learns the lessons that life has to offer, and there's nothing like a hard job with real people who don't kiss your ass just for being marginally famous/infamous to do just that. He's pretty much used up his mulligans and excuses, time to grow up.

Worst ever waste of talent in the history of Hokiedom. Ever. Oh and on a side note, f-k Brew Drees and Purdue.

So the program now has a net worth of $400,000. I despise Purdue.

Are they the LOLUVA of the Big 10 or something?

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

You forgot the negative sign in front of that. F**K Purdue

They are the Wake Forest of Big 10.

Pour some Beer on it

Yes, because not only are they terrible at everything, but they STILL manage to inexplicably get the best of us every few years! Conference parasites.

There seems to be mounting evidence that Purdue might exist.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

I don't know, donors keep throwing money at the supposed UVA football program, and it has yet to show up.

"Exit light..."

Yet they have a team going to the finals in the College World Series.

Gotta hate the Hoos.

College baseball..... Meh. It's funny how people try to prop it up as one of the major college sports.... It's a nice distraction from football and basketball off seasons.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Yep. How many guys playing in the entire college world series will be in MLB next year? Now...how many players in just the NCAA basketball final four and football playoffs will be in the NBA and NFL next year?

I guess we'll all have to give 10% more...

Hokie Club 110% program is way ahead of us on this.
