Dewayne Alford left the Virginia Tech football program before spring practice. South Alabama head football coach Joey Jones announced Tuesday that Dewayne Alford has enrolled in school and will join the program in the fall. Virginia Tech degree in-hand (or framed on a wall, or stuffed in the back of a closet) Alford will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Well the attrition is starting. Two scholarships open so far any more to come in the crystal ball?
Attrition started a while ago. He just has officially found a new home.
I'm always gun shy until players find a new home that it's not really "official".
Degree in hand? The kid just wants to play so it seems he's graduated on to bigger and better things for himself. Hope he gets to see the field down there and does well.
This seems somewhat like new news to me - i thought he and Seth Dooley were doing well in spring practice sessions.
You're thinking of Seth Dooley and Seth Dooley. Both of those guys had a great spring.
seth dooley and vinny mihota. still disappointed dooley didn't get a chance to show his improvement in the spring game. he needs all the snaps he can get.
You're not TKPing hard enough.
Absolute favorite episode of any ST series ever is the TNG episode where Scotty gets pulled out of a transporter loop, and he explains to LaForge that you never tell the captain that anything in engineering is easy or quick. You make it out to be a monumental task that will take hours, and then the captain thinks you're a god for accomplishing it. Paints the original series in a totally different light.

Sucks man, this is a position where depth is a concern. best of luck in your new home though...
Best of luck to him. Although when guys transfer is most likely because they can't crack the 2-deep in term of playing time. He probably just wants to get more field time to help get him exposure for the NFL, or just to acutally get on the field to play. Hope it all works out for him.
If you are worried about NFL exposure, transferring to South Alabama so you can start probably isn't the answer.
Did we ever hear an official reason for leaving? He saw a good bit of time last year and was in position to still be in the 2 deep this year...
I TA'd one of his political science classes a few years ago and he was a smart, very polite guy! I hope he enjoys playing at South Alabama and does well afterwards!
Good for him. Hope he find success down there.
Can't fault him for wanting to play for Team USA
Seems to be a bit of Hokie connection to South Alabama...if I recall that's where Jake Johnson ended up transferring to
I believe he is now working in the weight program down there at SA either that or a WWE wrestler.
Good Lord...
Watching the Ohio St game, Alford got some decent PT and made some plays. Wish he would have stayed, we could definitely have used the depth. Dont fault him for wanting more playing time, but he was no slouch here for sure.
He was very good against Ohio State and then his play dropped off. I am not sure what sparked his transfer, but once he graduated he understood that he wasn't going to get a starters look in Blacksburg unless there were several injuries. He has his degree, so I wish him the best of luck. Hopefully he makes lots of noise at South Alabama.
