Can't wait for Part II. Great interview. Whit just strikes me as a perfect analytical mind, capable of giving a thoughtful answer. More and more, I am impressed with him and glad that he's our AD.

though something about this answer regarding Bristol:
But shoot, I go to the Final Four about every other year and there's 70,000 people there and the sight lines stink, but you're a part of the Final Four.
My mind translates that as sight lines and distance is even worse than people imagine. Don't go for the game, go for the event.

You know, if fans wear dominantly maroon that orange/white is going to make the stadium look like one big VT game... there colors go in our favor, although it isn't a burnt orange.

You know, I would never say never. Maybe I'm wrong, but for whatever reason that's not on my radar screen. I guess if we were asked to do it, you'd want to weigh one, it's a heck of a student-athlete experience if you've never been to Ireland. But it would have to fit within your schedule. What does it do to your team? I may offend some, but that's not even on my radar screen at this point in time. We haven't been asked to do it. I'm more concerned about playing games in Blacksburg than I am Ireland.
this is about as perfect of an answer as you could hope for...Whit is a great fit for us and I'm excited to see how he evolves our Athletics over the next decade or two.

I agree - whit is a perfect fit for us- he only made one misstatement in that interview though:
But if we can get it -- which I would be disappointed if we don't -- the largest attended college football game, that'd be pretty cool. Especially if we win it.
I think he meant to say:
Especially WHEN we win it...

"All this is good, Jon, but your debut is going to be following Bill Roth against the national champions with more people than have ever listened to you. Convince us on how you're going to be ready and prepared for it."
Seems the Laaser hire is solid. Preparing for that part of the interview with that in your head:
This seems appropriate:

I'd like to see Virginia Tech fans go in order to help achieve the attendance record.
Plus, I don't want to be there in a sea of Tennessee orange. I'd rather see a lot of burnt orange and Chicago maroon.
I went to the Sugar Bowl against Michigan, and I was pretty impressed with the Hokie turnout. That place rocked.

I'd like to see that.
