Totally off topic, but it is the off season sooooooo yeah figured I'd post this

A US robotics company (hopefully some hokies work there) challenged a Japanese robotics team to a giant robot battle with paintball guns. Two 15 foot 12000 lb robots duking it out. For those who played mechwarrior as children it'll be like that

Played Mechwarrior as children? I'm assuming you haven't seen Mechwarrior Online then.
I have, but its not the same...plus that whole, paying for better mechs is no me gusta
Meh, that aspect has been improving (for the most part) and apparently there's a brand-new re-balancing coming in the next month or so. Besides, it looks far, far better than the old Mechwarrior games, even if there's no single player.
Uhhhh YEAH, totally played Mechwarrior3 as a child *ahem*
I can't decide if I'd prefer the Madcat or the Vulture.

Timber Wolf, definitely. It's the iconic Mechwarrior mech. See?
Oh, I know. It is the prototypical Mech but then it becomes "just another Madcat". I always seemed to do surprisingly well when I piloted my vulture (gauss cannons and SSRM6s FTW!)
Lol "just another mech"? It's a clan mech, the best of the best. My favorite clan mech is the Ryoken (Stormcrow).
My favorite inner sphere mech is probably the Cataphract.
All about the summoner or the Nova
In Mechwarrior Online the Summoner is a fun mech, because it's absolutely loaded with jump jets (but a little lacking in firepower), but the Nova is tough because it's very short and squat.
I didn't know that they had all of these fancy names. I just usually picked the blue one.
Don't worry, there's only about 600.
I'm a Daishi man myself...
Good choice! Those things were my fav in mechwarrior 3, think they were called dire wolves at one point?
Still are. Though we also refer to them as "Dire Whales"
reminds me of Robot Jox
This. Looks. Awesome! I must say, though, our boys in the Stars and Stripes need to upgrade some of the gear on Megabot. In the short clip vs the bad guys, it looks like they've currently got the edge. Gaitlin guns? Son...you're fixin' for a fight!
i want to join this team somehow, someway
We call ourselves an engineering school? HOW DO WE NOT HAVE ONE ALREADY???
seriously. we need a billionare to set up a mechbot endowment so that VT can have one running out to Enter Sandman on gameday, shooting 20' flames in the air. With t-shirt gaitlin gun for sideline use during the game of course and a shoulder mounted cannon named "skipper jr" that shoots a football 80+ yards for halftime field goal shenanigans.
I repeat 2Hokiesin1's sentiment, How is this not already a thing?!
I'll step up and fund this. I'm a few 100 million short though (read 1,000 million short). Maybe HokieBengal can fund it since he's a "big donor"?
good call on HokieBengal.
I wasn't about to jump into that fray, but I was chuckling at how everyone took him at his word that he was a Diamond or Platinum Hokie (or whatever, he kept jumping back and forth).
Yea we can't all be super triple double Platinum and Diamond Hokies like me.
Shoot, you don't even know about us Unobtainium Hokies.
(insert angry rant about being an apologist here)
That might sell tickets all on its own. Wonder how the raised field would work with a that weight, might have to be a little slimmer than 12,000 lbs
Hopefully Miles Dyson is not involved in this project at all...
What if we contact the Iron Hokie guy and do a few paintball gun additions?
My wife got a pic with him and two others in similar get-ups before the Miami game last year. Lol, she looks so hammered in it.
Update! Japan has accepted but wants it to be hand to hand combat through the robots
