As per TKP tradition, sack master Bruce Smith is today's headliner.
If you pop your head in here, let the rest of the community know what your plans for the day are. I am in Ocean City, Maryland on a last minute family vacation. I have ate all the crab.

Looks like I'm going to be spending time in NC, trying to keep all of our pets herded when the fireworks go off.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day, Happy Independence Day!
My fellow jarheads and I hit the waves early, then met our guide so now we're chasing Marlin with some cold cervesa's waiting on us.
America, best country in the world

Happy 4th everyone. Will be chillin in the burg, cooking out on the deck, playing some music, lighting a few questionable fireworks and enjoying several XXs. Oh and catching up on some Hokie articles. Thanks TKP. Holler.
I live where everyone else vacations coastal SC near Myrtle Beach, so today will be spend avoiding tourist spots and traffic, our newest daughter is getting baptized today also. Then tonight since everything is legal in SC we will be blowing the backyard up. Happy 4th and stay see around the fireworks.
Where at? I'm vacationing in Pawley's Island, south of Myrtle beach
I live in Murrells Inlet which is just north of Pawleys. You on the island or Litchfield area? You see the salute the shore this afternoon?
Let me know if you need any food suggestions or things to do today/tonight for the 4th.
Litchfield area. We have food covered, been coming down here for vacation for quite a few years. Love going in to Murrels Inlet for the restaurants. You live in a great area.
Yep take my kids to the beach every weekend and it's never crowded, go eat before 530 and it's never crowded because all the tourists are still on the beach or getting cleaned up, lots of golf and great seafood.
That is some veteran advice. Went to Hanser House for dinner, always delicious.
...and though I love pie, I will partake in the annual red, white and blue cake. Blueberry stars and strawberry stripes. Sometimes the dark side is unavoidable.
Happy 4th everyone!
I'll be chilling at a friends pool and grilling, but I'll also be jealous of Joe and all the crab
Hanging out with family, swimming in backyard pool in Phoenix trying to avoid heat stroke, enjoying several cold beers. BEST country ever, NEVER forget! God bless America!
Happy Independence Day Hokies!!!
In Nashville for what is supposed to be the largest fireworks show in the U.S.A.
anybody else going to the foo fighters concert today? I am
I would have if I didn't have to work.
But to get off work on this holiday would mean having to work on Labor Day.....but Hokie football...
Laying some sod in the house we just built. Then we're gonna get in the pool, burn meat on a grill, drink way to many coors lights and blow shit up when the sun goes down! Happy Birthday America!!
A Ranger blowing shit up at sundown on Fourth of July?

Gets my vote.
Woke up Sunday and still had all my fingers, I call that a success story!
A someone said on Twitter, "If you must mix alcohol with fireworks, please, please, please remember to have someone standing by to capture video."
Woke up late after a long night watching the Grateful Dead's "Fare Thee Well" tour live from Chicago (via movie theater big screen). Gonna head to scenic Lake Murray and enjoy an afternoon of BBQ with some friends. More Dead tomorrow, continuing the couch tour.
I see what you did there. Gonna head . . .
We're taking it easy at home today, avoiding the madness of the DC/Metro area that comes around this day every year. This morning was ugly, but if the rain holds off, we'll grill. No big plans, aside from keeping our dogs from going ballistic if things start exploding outside.
Here on the Middle Peninsula, we're recovering from a ton of rain last night and really hoping that this evening will give us a respite from the rain for the Mathews fireworks show. Lot of big stuff in a really small town, and well worth the 4 minute drive to see them up close. My dogs are gonna be on their own, and since I won't be here to know whether they panic or not, I'll just assume it doesn't bother them in the least. Ha.
Happy 4th to all Hokies everywhere around the world, and Happy Birthday America!!!!
My best friend in high school had a family house right on the bay in Matthews. Love that little place.
We love it too. Great place to retire, lotta wattah, laid back small town in a rural county. My folks lived in North Myrtle Beach for a long time, so I'm vanilla with your area as well. Loved the mountains, but I was born on the Naval Academy and the Bay has long been in my blood. I do miss the proximity to Blacksburg, but ya just cannot have it all.
Happy America Day! Don't forget to put your bald eagle on top of your freedom tree!
Good tip. Gotta make sure George Washington flies over your house in his F-14 to drop off your yearly supply of Liberty.
I hope everyone used enough fireworks to signal him yesterday. George was on a tight schedule after all. He had to head over and help Santa bring Christmas to Iraq too.
Just another beautiful day in sunny Cincinnati. A nice cool front has come through, highs have been in the 70s. Some chicken will be sitting on a beer can on my grill while I sip from a few more. Also breaking out my 'Merica! shirt that my mother picked up on a trip to Alaska.
Happy 4th fellow TKP members,
I'll be spending a few hours at a friend's place and then meeting up with some other friends probably to catch a movie. Then I'll take my boys out to watch some fireworks in the evening...
Then I'll hold my Shepard/boxer all night..
Because she's terrified of fireworks.
Family time in the Burg for me. Of course I've been wolfing down freedom all day long
Happy 4th of July TKPers!
Packing up all my stuff for Summer Academy/Hokie Camp starting next week and moving in tomorrow! #cantwait
PBR, cookouts, fireworks, Bruce Smith, America. What a great day!

Happy 4th Hokies! I am one (if not the only) Long Islander here, so I thought I'd share what's happening in my neck of the woods.
1. Visited famous Coney Island yesterday, on the eve of the hot dog eating contest. I would describe the scene as an eclectic cocktail: your favorite state fair married to bike week all while celebrating Chanukah, as the cousins dance to Latino techno music. Reminds me of Venice Beach.
2. Blueberry picking on the north fork.
3. Minor league ball game.
4. Fireworks!
Stay safe Hokies...I'm sportin' my gear all weekend. I ran into some FSU fans yesterday, and as they gave me a hard time about what a Hokie was, I asked them where the nearest Publix was. They said no more.
Seeing the Foo Fighters in DC tonight!!!!
Not that it is anyone's fault but the flag in the background is backwards. Stars are always upper left corner I'd you hang it vertically.
Wonder if the photo is just mirrored? That happens sometimes. Or he's behind the flag. Possibilities!
The number and text would be backwards
Maybe the picture is mirrored and his jersey is on backwards.
Cooking out with the family. Brats and some Deep fried Cajun turkey breast from the spring. Illegal fireworks at dark. Lee Greenwood on YouTube for a nightcap. Happy Birthday USA! GO HOKIES!!
happy bday, 'murricah!
Read the Declaration of Independence on the front page of the RTD today (I recommend this to everyone. It's humbling)....worked on two cars in the driveway for a while. Rewatched anOSU/Mich game on TV....getting ready for dinner & fireworks later. Contemplating all day on what incredible men wrought 239 years ago. It makes you wonder if we have anyone around with as much character as these great men. Happy Birthday America!
I get to float around on a ship under the same flag, but no one dares shoot at it. Don't know what I'd do in 1776. Washington's men on that frozen march...
I'll update with a pic if I ever get through to imgur, but I'm currently sitting on the Lincoln memorial to watch DC fireworks. Already met one hokie

So is it considered a successful fireworks display when the HOA is going to consider new rules about fireworks!!!
Heard something not so good about the Foo Fighter's concert. Just caught a little bit out of the corner of my eye/brain. Hope you guys going weren't too inconvenienced. Don't know the details, just knew some here were going and heard the concert mentioned on TV. Hope I misread what I didn't really see/hear.
...?? You've piqued my curiosity
I didn't see any more about it, hopefully it was just a mention of preparations for the concert, but it seemed to be part of a weather story. Sorry to be so uninformed and yet still so willing to post. Seems stupid this morning, but I was hoping for someone here to clarify.
This is the first year that I can remember in a long, long time that we have stayed in Western Mass for the 4th. Typically, we are with my husband's family in Fairfax, but with his mother's passing in February everyone did their own thing this year. So many years we would actually fly home on the night of July 4th. I really miss that because nothing makes you feel more connected to this diverse nation of ours than to fly hundreds of miles seeing fireworks displays everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE....big displays in cities and towns, on the beach in Atlantic City, on docks on Long Island, and backyards by the dozens. How is it that we are all so different and yet still more linked than we can even know? There is nothing like the 4th of July to make you feel grateful for the freedom that binds us all.
We were just talking last night how cool it would be to be on a plane at that time. Stuff just going off everywhere. Very cool story Vtiimb.
Welp, our Independence Day ended with a wimper. My wife and I thought we had a great idea for where to watch fireworks. We went to the top of Mill Mountain thinking we would be able to see the ones from the Salem Fair and the ones from Riverside in Roanoke. Our master plan didn't work though. Trees blocked nearly everyone's view. Only people at the very front of the viewing platform were able to see anything. There was a massive exodus off the mountain as everyone realized they couldn't see anything once they began.
Oh well. Won't be doing that next year.
I had the same experience but replace Mill Mountain with Lake Norman in NC. Saw several small private fireworks shows but the main attraction must have been obscured by trees or something. Never saw it. We were with about 200 other people at that marina who picked a lousy spot. We decided next year we're just going to go back to Christiansburg HS.
So much for big ideas huh?
If you find yourself near Lake Norman area again, Statesville (to the north) always does theirs the night before. Don't know if that's common for the whole area.
I found it really odd the festivities were so spread out on the calendar. There were events the previous weekend too, and many things took place on July 3rd.
Spending the weekend at my sisters lake house in east Texas. So nice.
Happy Independence Day y'all!
happy independence day
Visited my home town, bumped into a friend I hadn't seen for 15 years.
Burned meat with family and consumed appropriate quantities.
Brought my daughters to their first frog hopping contest and turtle race.
Good day.
played afternoon/evening gig for neighborhood event/fundraiser
totally beat but we had a blast
Saw the Stones at Indy Motor Speedway. Ate some barbecue. Drank several craft beers. Watched stuff explode.
