I am using IE7 (terrible I know) but it's the only browser allowed for use at work. That said, the formatting of the site at least using this browser is kind of wonky. When I mouse over one of the blog post links to the right, they immediately jump to the left side of the page and get on top of any content that's there. Each link would jump separately once moused over. Refreshing or going to another page resets them to their correct spot.

I'm sure the site works better on a browser that isn't painfully outdated.

So, I purposely didn't enable <= IE8 support in my themes to cut down on bloat. So it is going to look wonky. I figured someone was going to have an issue so I'll see what I can do. There is no way you can access a modern browser in the mean time?

That would explain why everything looks so strange. Yay for primitive browsers on restrictive networks that don't allow better ones.

Now looking at it on Firefox 17.0.3 on a separate system and it looks great. As others said, simple and effective

For work I'm stuck on this browser and can't change anything unfortunately, but I am likely in the minority of users with restrictive access. I can still read content, it's just a jumble of superimposed text on text at certain spots. However, at home when I rejoin modern society and its contemporary browsers I'm sure the site will look great!

Did you just add support for more browsers? Using IE8 at work and all of a sudden I can now see the logo. Not sure if it's a glitch or something intentional. I saw where you said below that you updated the menu bar to allow for larger clickable areas so maybe this was wrapped in there too. I haven't noticed any other major changes though other than the logo.

As someone who once graduated with a degree in graphic design, I applaud the site layout. It is minimalistic, simple, and +1 for the Hokies' stone background. Subtle use of a key shaped into Virginia.

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

I have just started to poke around, but really like the new layout! I especially like that I didn't just now have to come up with a subject line for this post... I think that was probably not necessary and so it was a good item to trim out as the site has been cleaned up. One little note: When you click the link for new comments from the tracker, it does jump to the correct part of the post to see the first new comment, but it puts the comment on top of the page, just under the new header. Seems like it should be told to jump to that spot + 'x' number of pixels (however tall the header is). That's pretty picky, and may be a huge headache to fix. But it's something I noticed in the limited time I've looked around for now. I do love how the header scrolls with you, so you can always click the tracker (my main navigation tool) from anywhere. Scrolling all the way back to that in long posts with 200+ comments was one of the biggest problems in the old site.
I'll keep my eyes open for any other little bugs, but at first glance, it looks great! Kudos to Joe and the whole team!

It took me a while to understand what you were saying. I knew the "new" link worked, but figuring out how to make the header play a bit nicer with is a subtle change that will take a bit of engineering. I'll put it on the todo list, which is growing quickly. Great suggestion.

I'd say it definately looks good. The layout is clean and simple, good looking logo, and nice hokie stone background.

Tried it on my phone too, the mobile site is very easy to use.

Looks great so far. The "Schedule" page at the top doesn't work though. I'm also not seeing the Hokie Stone background, but my computer and internet connection at work are both pretty crappy, so maybe its just me. I tried it on my iphone too, and it looks great on there.

I'm not seeing it either, except for in the brief moment between when the page loads and the content loads.

Using Safari, in case you're wondering, Joe.

Joe can correct me if I'm wrong, but its probably because you're using a 4:3 ratio monitor instead of a 16:9. I saw the background at work but not at home, and that's the major difference in my two computers.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

Yes. That might have something to do with it. The HokieStone only shows up outside of the content margins. Since the ratio on a 4:3 display is closer to 1, there's a chance of less "empty" horizontal space that's being filled by the HokieStone. Honestly, if people are having issues. What would help the most are screen grabs and version numbers + operating systems. I checked Safari 6 on my Mac and everything worked as expected.

I don't think the lack of hokiestone is that big of a deal, but I'm running XP with Firefox 19.0.2. I'm sure the problem is with my monitor ratio. Also, I'm an idiot, but I haven't been able to figure out yet how to post the pic of my screen grab.

"We were at the pinnacle, and we did it for years," Foster says. He pauses, nods, takes a deep breath. "And I did it with the best guy in the business."

When I posted my bracket earlier, I had to upload it to another site and then post a link using the camera button above the text box.

I am really enjoying the mobile site! I have access to my Galaxy S3's internet more so than a computer. This waybis much easier to read and comment on posts like now. The only thing that's been particularly hard for me to find is the place where recent topics are. On the non-mobile website it was convenient to look to the side of the page and see recent topics. I found this thread by luck. I assume I will figure out though with time. Great looking layout!

Oh... scroll down. Silly me. Please excuse my utter stupidity.

Very nice work. Love the Key shape in the Virginia shape. Playing with it now trying to figure everything out but no problems so far. Nice work.

Win one for the Beamer...

One thing I've noticed and am not as much of a fan of is that each time someone comments on a post, it appears that the Tracker shows that the post has been "updated." Maybe I'm the only one this bothers, but I think it used to be that "updated" meant that the body of the main post was updated. Just a minor issue that threw me off when I first logged in and saw that there were 6 posts that had been "updated"

I love everything about this. It's simple, slick, and refined. Very Nice!

I wish we still had the option to edit our posts one time. Other than that, I'm all for it!

Not sure if it's been noted yet, but I like how posts with recent activity are highlighted. +1 for allowing me to be even lazier when searching for new comments on posts!

Not to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure it's always been that way. Plus, you can just click the "new" and it will take you directly to the first new comment.

They are referring to the orange highlight on topics on the main page under 'active discussions'. New feature.

Ohh okay my bad VTfly. I didn't even notice that feature.

No worries. Although now that you DO see it I bet you love it.

WE FEAR CHANGE!

just kidding, it's looks good, site navigation is intuitive.

i also like how the banner follows as you scoll down so you can click to whatever you want instead of having to scroll back up through what sometimes are very lengthy threads.

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

Really like the new site! Seems very intuitive. Only suggestion I would make (and it's admittedly not really important, just a personal preference) would be to make the avis a little bigger. It's a nice window into the personality of our members...and they can be awfully funny at times.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

At first glance I didn't understand the Virginia Key icon, but now I like it! The new interface is nice, but I miss being able to title my posts.
I also like the idea of increasing the size of each person's "profile picture".

One bug - the schedule page can't be found at the moment.

Otherwise, I'd say the site looks a whole lot more pro!!

Hokies.

Oh snap! Hooray for the mobile site!

Phillip

The only thing I'd like to see is a messaging system. If that's too difficult (I have no clue how difficult it is) then just disregard this. But I think a messaging system would be good because, at least for me, I'd rather sell my extra tickets on here to other big time Tech fans than some random guy on StubHub. But I don't think anyone wants to post their email or anything on here. Just my thoughts, but still amazing site. Really appreciate all you guys have done on this site considering you don't even charge people for being on it.

Rip his freaking head off!

Interesting idea. It sounds like you are asking for a PM system. Requires additional coding and plenty of server space for saving members' messages.

I do have a suggestion, though, instead of a PM system, is possible for the administrator of TKP to set up some kind of affiliation to StubHub so that only TKPers can buy tickets from other TKPers? Just a thought.

I support Logan Thomas and make no apologies for it.

Or set it up similar to Craigslist. Each user must provide an e-mail address that remains hidden, but other users can choose to e-mail another user which sends an e-mail to an unknown address. The receiver can then reply to the e-mail they received. Shouldn't need server space for saving messages, just a client to send the e-mails.

What about a ticket exchange forum? Seems like a much more straight forward solution. Messaging is something I can add in, but there's much better ways to take a conversation "offline".

In order to protect personal e-mail addresses and stuff, could it be locked to only be viewed by users with an account? That way no lurker can come by, grab our e-mail address and spam it.

except, well, anyone can get an account, it isn't that difficult.

Yeah, but Joe has to approve them I believe. I'm sure he could also limit it so that you can only access the ticket board if you have more than say 10 turkey legs. That way they have to establish themselves on here in some way or another.

To piggy back off of this - how about a place where you can see just replies to your own posts/comments. Currently, the user base is small enough that it's easy to check all of the unread posts on all threads. However, I'm an optimist and would like to see this site grow.

I've been thinking the same thing for some time now. Some kind of notification system (a la the social networks) that allow us to tag other keyplayers in posts and/or lets us know when somebody responds to ours. Just a thought.

+1000! Agreed! It will make having a conversation string much easier.

Great job, guys. I love that there is a "French" nav item. As a digital strategist, I can appreciate vital content and his film breakdown over the past year proved invaluable. Well done.

apparently my phone takes giant screenshots...

That just happens to be how many pixels are on your screen.

Nice. Some Hokie sites update their layout to disastrous results. I don't foresee that happening for you.

Would it be possible to add the "mark all as read" button to the Tracker page? I used that feature a lot on the previous site, don't see it anymore.

Otherwise, site looks great.

I usually hate formatting changes to websites (like HokieSports and facebook), but I dig this one. Especially the new mobile-friendly features!

This isn't praise or criticism or anything like that. Just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem:
I am really having trouble retraining myself not to scroll all the way back up to the top of the page to hit the 'tracker' button! I love that the header travels with you, and when I use my brain instead of my reflexes, it's so great to just quickly click back to the tracker. Its just... man, I guess we are creatures of habit. I scroll back up on most every post.
Anyway, just to reiterate much of what is said above, love the cleaned up site, and appreciate everyone's time and hard work on the look, layout, and content!

TheArchitect: struggles with new design. Awkward...

TIL: I can click on the tracker instead of scrolling up.

New layout looks good, and, as has been mentioned, the mobile site is a good addition.

I'm not sold on the new logo, though. I don't think it screams "Virginia" at first - the lines on the end of it make it look a little like a pile of dog doo.

I think it's supposed to represent the mountains of southwest VA

I'm pretty sure it IS Virginia.

Maybe add a little Eastern Shore or something? Or would that look too awkward?

Did the "Mark forum read" button not make the transition or am I blind?

#VT4SEC

Looks like it didn't. Really need it though.

I added the mark all as read button back to the forum topics pages. That's not an out of the box feature, but custom code I had to write. I just got done recoding it for the new version of our CMS. Also, posts / comments automatically are marked as read after 30 days.

I just had brunch, drank a carafe of mimosa, watching March Madness on the bar TVs, and now I'm checking The Key Play on my phone.

Today is a good day.

But, I do not like the lack of an editing feature

really like the new mobile lay out nice

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

So I have a question for mobile Key Players: could you guys not view the site on your phones before, or did you just not like viewing the full site on a small phone screen? To me it seems like some of the comments are saying they weren't able to check the site on a mobile device before. I was always able to get on, but I really like having a mobile formatted version. Just curious.
Also, I use Chrome for Android on a Galaxy S3

HOKIE HOKIE HOKIE HI

I was able to use the full site before, and I didn't have that many issues with it. I think people probably prefer the mobile formatting more, since it gives you wider field of view with respect to the text and the side bar.
For Reference, I'm using IE on a Lumia 920

My Droid Bionic could interface with the old TKP just fine, but for a site such as this the mobile viewing option is definitely preferable.

How is your Bionic doing? I almost threw mine in front of a metro train yesterday because I was getting fed up with it. The battery lasts for around 4 hours these days.

Battery is showing its age, but I have a replacement battery coming soon. Hope Jelly Bean will give me reason to keep it until at least the end of the summer. I'm eligible for an upgrade in May.

I don't use my phone much for TKP, but I tend to use Dolphin for Android, with the User Agent set to Desktop specifically to avoid mobile pages, unless I have a problem with the regular page. I'll have to try both versions later.

As long as this situation doesn't come up, I'm sure I'll be happy with it

They have to keep the adjacent rack units empty. Otherwise, half the entries in their /var/log/syslog are just 'SERVER BELOW TRYING TO START CONVERSATION *AGAIN*.' and 'WISH THEY'D STOP GIVING HIM SO MUCH COFFEE IT SPLATTERS EVERYWHERE.'
http://xkcd.com/869/

This makes me want to punch things when it happens. Especially if I am clicking an article from twitter and it redirects to the main page (Sports Illustrated, I am talking to you!).

Not sure if this is another custom code or not, but one thing I'm not seeing is a search bar where we can easily find old posts. I realize it probably isn't used that often, but I find it handy when I want to find a specific article, such as right now when I want to go back and find the post of Mike London dancing so that we can have a Frank Beamer, Mike London dance-off gif.

You can direct link to it here: http://www.thekeyplay.com/search/node. I'm in the process of setting up a Google custom search and killing the site's built in one. Google is faster, a more comprehensive index, and will lessen the load on the server.

Works for me. I was going to suggest a Google custom search if it wasn't what was already implemented. It will definitely make your life easier. Thanks!

BTW, Thanks to joe for the larger avis....I can see Box's bat child much better now!

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

You're welcome. It was a great suggestion.

Joe, three things I've noticed: One is a minor nit-picky thing, one is a "wtf" moment that I had that I cannot seem to replicate, and the other appears to be a broken link.

First, the buttons in the banner. I am always slightly annoyed when a button will change color if you mouse over it, implying it can be clicked then, but only a small portion of the button actually does something (in most cases, such as this one, it only works if you click the text). Any way you could change that, or am I the only one that really notices this?

Secondly, a glitch that I found once that I haven't seen again. The "Schedule" text in the banner was coming down vertically from the banner, as shown below:

The text was still clickable, but it looked awkward. I'm using Chrome 25.0 on Win7 Home Premium. It showed up once, in this thread, but I haven't seen it before or since, so it may have just been a download error or something.

This brings me to my last point: the "Schedule" banner link seems to be broken. It takes you to a "Page Not Found" page, with the text "The requested page "/schedule" could not be found."

In an effort to not be a Debbie Downer, some things that I really like about it: the Hokie stone makes an awesome touch, the banner is a wonderful idea that keeps me from scrolling all day, and thank you for re-adding the "edit" function.

  1. Fixed, it annoyed me too.
  2. Never seen that one before...
  3. The schedule is live and will be updated with more information as it becomes available.

Thank you for the constructive feedback.

Are we going to have official Game Day threads for each game? If so, maybe we can link to that thread in the schedule.

I've tried over the last week to get used to this and I will be brutally honest: I don't like the new design. I think it would work great for a mobile site but a minimalistic look is overrated. To preface: I work in IT (and have for nearly 20 years) and am not resistant to change ... but I don't understand why the site was totally overhauled. A change here and there? OK -- But if it ain't broke, don't fix it. There were features available in your old "base" design that are no longer there. I don't know joe .. I'm tryin man -- but I already miss the old site. Maybe I'm just resistant to change -- I just saw nothing wrong with the general look-and-feel of the site.

Just curious -- what were your reasons for total overhaul and going with a minimalist approach??

I want the site to be about the content, not clutter, a clean layout helps push the content, both what we write, and more importantly the conversations that happen as a result, to the forefront.

What features are you missing from the old site? Other than the search bar, which is coming back in as a Google custom search, everything should be here.

Kind of agree with sparko. I just miss the look of the previous site, mainly the title bar at the top of the page. To me, it's like a big time brand changing their logo, I just don't (yet) associate the new look with The Key Play. When I go to TheKeyPlay.com, it doesn't immediately strike me as a Virginia Tech Sports forum, but appears much more generic.

That being said, perhaps I'm just not used to the new format. It does work noticeably smoother on my iPad.

Anyway, thanks for all the hard work and upkeep you do around here. The content here is BY FAR the best of any VT blog/forum (TSL, Espn, gobblercountry etc.)

EDIT: Going back to how the new layout relates to The Key Play "Brand." There's no orange on the homepage (I'm all for #allmarooneverything, but Burnt orange is beautiful too!!!). There's also not one VT symbol, no VT logos, no lunchpails, no hokie birds, not even the words "Virginia Tech". I assume there's some legal issues you're battling here, but there needs to be something that screams at a first time visitor and lets them know that this is a Virginia Tech blog! Find someone random, not a VT fan, show them the new layout, and see how long it takes them to figure out what the site is about. With the last layout, it was immediate. This layout... Not so sure, wouldn't be surprised if it took the person a few minutes. That's not what you want.

I don't mean to shit on anybody's hard work, just trying to offer constructive criticism. Hope it wasn't too harsh.

I think this would be my sole complaint with the site as well. I'm a big fan of the banner at the top of the old site. I felt like it was a great way to announce what the site is and it's easily recognizable for new and returning viewers alike. I guess the key just doesn't have the same eye-catching capability. I wouldn't mind seeing both incorporated in some way.

The key logo is definitely our new brand. mstrawther designed it, and I think he did a wonderful job. These are some of the design concepts that he incorporated (his words, not mine).

- The Key Play logo signifies Virginia Tech everything -- athletics, community, etc.
- The single key signifies 3rd down on defense -- commonly referred to as "the key play" in Lane Stadium
- The key hole represents a football, which is the site's main topic of discussion
- The right side of the key represents the state of Virginia in which the school plays in.
- The details and cutouts inside the key are abstract representations of the highways that lead to Blacksburg.
- Blacksburg is represented by a whiter and brighter glow on the key in the Virginia-state part of the logo.

I'm unsure what the copyright/trademark restrictions are, but between my actual full-time job, site updates, and publishing content, I didn't have time to investigate. I purposely stayed away from things that I assumed to be trademarked or copy written, like what you mentioned above.

The great majority of our new readers are driven here organically or socially. They aren't sent here randomly. When they come from another blog/message board, Google, Twitter, or Facebook there's already a context. Our returning users, know what we're all about.

I don't disagree with adding in more orange, or doing more subtle things to enhance the Hokie experience. If you have any suggestions, I'd be glad to listen to them.

Thanks for the feedback.

The new logo is lovely and all, but it's a bit subtle. 99% of what you said there I didn't get at all until it was pointed out on the forums. (Yes, even the fact that the key was shaped like VA)

Perhaps it could be used in combination with something else?

Best duos in Hokie history: Hall & Adibi, 3rd & Tyrod, Georgia & Liz

Maybe put the laces of the football in the middle of the keyhole? I think that one change would help a fair bit...

Also, the "roads to Blacksburg" are what make it hard to see the state of VA I think. Maybe make the outline of the state stand out a bit more?

Maybe add an orange border to the header?

The site does look a lot cleaner now, but just less like a site designed for crazed Hokie fans!!

Hokies.

First off, kudos to mstrawther for his efforts. The time and talent you poured into this is awesome. I'm SO jealous of those with artistic ability, because I have little. That said...
Logos - Simple is fine, usually better, but it should be INSTANTLY connected to the product (Apple, Nike, Dell, etc). If you have to explain it, you've missed the mark. If features aren't recognizable (Highways to VT, Outline of our great state) their usage is futile.
Suggestions:
1. Make the Virginia outline more accurate and detailed, so it's recognized quickly.
2. Mark the location of Blacksburg within the outline, maybe with a football? (I realize it's small)
3. Absolutely, positively, incorporate our VT logo on it. I can't think of any other symbol for us that is stronger. Some may misinterpret it as Vermont, but the state outline and adding OUR COLORS to the VT should eliminate that. My thought is put the V in the "V" notch of the VA outline (and maybe the T top could extend to a spear tip stabbing at BooHooVille, or a hand with a Thor hammer coming down on them, LOL).

gtofever

FWIW, I noticed the key shape changing into a Virginia outline immediately. The "highways" bit is a bit of a stretch, I just thought they were a cool design. And also, I don't claim to know hardly any of the nuances of copyright and trademark law, but I'd bet that there's a legal reason we don't see a VT anywhere in the header. I can't imagine that Joe would overlook something like that.

The VT logo is a registered trademark, so you must get approval from VT and pay to use it. The TV is simply trademarked, which means they did not register through the government and thus cannot legally pursue violators. Here is a list of all registered trademarks and nonregistered trademarks with information on how to use:

http://www.unirel.vt.edu/licensing/dept-info.html

Interestingly, they have not tried to trademark a horse on treadmill.

Calling it!

That's right, they don't accept "Va Tech" and anyone who calls us that is a douche.

Rip his freaking head off!

Same with "Virginia Tech University". Except Tyrod. He earned a pass, I think.

Actually, Tyrod said "the University of Virginia Tech." Both should be avoided, however.

Potato, tomato, close enough.

Everything said about the VT logo being trademarked is correct. The logo is supposed to look like just a key at first glance but then... that moment you realize it has the shape of Virginia:

Hyping up Hokie Nation one video at a time.

I agree with Bar1990 on not having any Orange or VT logos on the site. Orange was used a lot in the old format and I think that's one of the things that makes it seem like a different site.

Other things that I've noticed are that I'm not being redirected to the mobile site on my Droid 2, I usually use Dolphin and I switched the user agent from Desktop back to Android, but I'm still seeing the normal layout except for the banner not scrolling with the page. The other issue I've noticed is that whenever I upvote something it takes me to a page showing what appears to be the code for the turkey leg adding.

There isn't a mobile site to be redirected to. The normal site is responsive and updates to fit the width of your display and optimizes for mobile. Here's what it looks like on an iPhone: http://i.imgur.com/JXUmG3k.png. The top navigation bar won't scroll and the right sidebar will appear below the list of articles.

As for your other issue, make sure Javascript is enabled.

100% charged... good stuff, Joe.

"The TKP community is unrivaled."
-Justin Fuente, probably

Thanks Joe, that fixed my problem with the voting. On a related note, are you planning to rename "Comment Score" "Turkey Legs" or add it after the score?

The side bar wasn't moving since I had the phone in a horizontal position to use my keyboard so that along with several people commenting on the "mobile site" had me a little confused.

Just noticed this problem. When a video is embeded into a comment, the video places itself in front of the navigation bar at the top. Not the end of the world, but some people may have issues with it.

I didn't experience this problem. I'm using chrome fwiw

What's weird is I added code to fix that bug, it's javascript though. Do you have javascript disabled? What browser, version, and platform (OS) are you on?

I'm running the most up-to-date version of Internet Explorer (8 or 9, whichever it is) on Windows 7. So far as I know, my Javascript is also enabled (checked tht through internet options)

EDIT: It may also just be something with my computer, I've started experiencing the same issues on other sites (Like CBSSports) and I'm assuming that they are pretty good at removing these types of problems. It's wierd because I had never noticed until on here, and now I'm seeing it everywhere.

Must be a virus.

Within five minutes of the Singularity appearing, somebody will suggest defragging it.

Suggestion: download either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox if you can. Both are faster and more secure. If you're in a locked down work environment, then I understand.

I have my reasons for using IE, but many people don't agree. But what I don't understand about this issue is that the Embedded videos only do the glitch over the navigation bar if they are in a comment. If they are in the original post, then there isn't an issue.

Hey!

I love the new layout. TKP has the type of style I'd like to use in my own blog in the future.

I've a few questions. What type of CMS (if any) are you using? Is everything built with custom code? I was really getting into web design (HTML, CSS, JQUERY, Javascript et al.) Then I got into wordpress. I thought wordpress would be easy to use but the PHP really overwhelmed me and I haven't tried any web design since then.

Thoughts or suggestions? I know this site isn't for tech help ---> but this is the kind of blog I want to create... minimal, functional, and clean. Any suggestions are welcomed!!!

A couple of tweaks for handhelds (iPhone / Android phones):

  1. Indents on comments are less so comments don't get quite as scrunched as they're threaded.
  2. More space as been added between the up and down vote links. I've noticed a few people mentioned they've fat fingered the voting arrows to give a down instead of up vote.

I've noticed on my iPhone sometimes when I click on new comments on an article, it doesn't go directly to the first new comment, it takes me to about halfway through the comments, and I have to scroll down to find the new comment.

This sometimes happens to me, even on a desktop (chrome, windows). I think I've noticed that it usually happens on a thread with many images in the comments (like advice hokie). My take was that it takes me to the right spot, then a ton of images load quickly, and that pushes the new comment down, forcing me to scroll to find it. If that is correct, not sure there is a fix for it. But maybe it is something else - have to get Joe (or someone else with web design experience, I guess) to weigh in.

My thought is that the size of the images are not calculated when determining the position of the comment. I would imagine it is difficult to keep track of every image on the page and include the size of it in the overall size of each comment.

Hey I was wondering if it's possible to add some kind of button that takes you from each new post to the next new post. On some of the longer threads there will be two or three new comments but they may not be in succession so we have to search through looking for the yellow comment. I may be getting picky and I'm not even sure if it's possible (no technical background) but a button or something that can jump us from one new comment to the next would be great.

Speaking of getting picky, I was just commenting on another post and noticed this one: The icon for 'underline' in the comment box is the 'unordered list' icon repeated. Not at all important, but I thought I'd point it out. Thanks for everything, Joe!

I think I have another nasty little bug fixed. The one where you get a database error when trying to embed tweets with "funny" characters in them. Previously, this should have caused a problem.

Now it should work fine. Yay it does! (Leap of faith.)

Let me know if you run across any weird things happening with the content of your comments, blog posts, or forum topics. I could be over filtering things.

Upvoted to get Joe to 5,000 turkey legs. If I don't do anything else productive for the whole day, I'll still have this...

Not sure if it's just because I'm on IE8 at work, but one thing I've noticed is that the RSS feed image and link is not inline with the rest of the top content bar. It is currently appearing below the YouTube link. Could very well be just because I'm on IE8 and IE in general sucks. I know when you first made the new site, IE8 wasn't compatible at all, but now it seems to be fully functional minus this part. I'd upload an image but I can't seem to access imgur at the moment.

It looks like you run out of Hokie Stone background if the thread is too long. somewhere around the 80th reply or so (see this thread for an example).

Not for me. I'm on chrome and I don't experience that. I even went to the Brown thread with 150+ comments and it looked fine.

I'm on Firefox and I have the same issue, no Hokie stone on long threads

I can confirm Chrome 27 doesn't have this issue, nor does IE8, but Firefox 18.0, 19.0.2, and 22 do.

Funny, finally a bug the manifests itself not on IE.

Check this mozilla support article for the explanation, if you're curious.

I'm not having a problem with it, running Firefox 20.0

I was running 18, then checked for an update, ended up with 19.0.2. Checked again, it sent me straight to 22.

I'm about to start testing a web/cloud/mobile enterprise app at work, I'm dreading having to deal with the browser/OS matrix.

Did you just add the "Advertise" link on the banner? I think it is screwing up the links to Facebook/You Tube/RSS/Twitter

Chrome only has the RSS feed on a second row, but I didn't feel like grabbing a screenshot of that.

What device are you running on? What's the horizontal resolution, and do you have the browser maximized?

It's my work machine; a Windows 8 machine and I want to say it's 1360 (if not 1600).

I will try and remember to check tomorrow. I am not having any issues with this machine, though (Windows 8, Firefox 22, 1600x900 (also reduced to 1360 and 1280 and had no issues).

Edit:

The horizontal resolution was actually 1920. I changed the default font size from 16 to 14 and it looks good now. I will check my other machines to see what they are set at.

Just a random thought...it would be cool if there was a TKP chat or something.

@AMB4VT

I feel like as long as it's not a high traffic time, like if we weren't posting huge news, then the chat wouldn't be too huge and tough to handle and it'd be nice to have.

"Official Gameday Thread"s should be a chat box. With an embedded video player live-streaming the game. Instead of sitting in front of the TV and trying to mobile/tablet/laptop to TKP, just put it all in one window and those of us that have to watch most games on ESPN3 can watch on TKP instead.

With an embedded video player live-streaming the game.

I don't know how you would get around the legality of rights of broadcast. Maybe you could embed ESPN3, but I would imagine it would be a headache for the TKP to deal with the Evil Empire. While that would be awesome, I doubt it would be a possibility.

🦃 🦃 🦃

About the only way I could think to do it that would be marginally legal would be to have a page set up with frames so that TKP has a live chat going on and the other frame has some way to open Watch ESPN be it a link, a search bar, or just open directly to the page. Not completely sure if it would be legal, but since it would be going straight to the user's computer from ESPN and login info would still be needed for Watch ESPN, I would think it would be OK.

That said frames are generally a horrible idea from a design stand point and its much simpler and less error prone to have two windows open side by side.

That would be awesome. I just think it would be awesome to just chat when I am bored at work or something. Would be nice to chat with other Hokies out there who are just as bored LOL

@AMB4VT

Can someone point me in the direction of the post that explains how to embed pictures and things in your post? I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to that stuff and can't remember which thread it was layed out. I remember it was in one of them but I don't have the time to sort through all of the forums. Thanks in advance!

@vtscottyb

There is a camera icon above the text box when posting a comment. However, the picture needs a url. Therefore, if you're tying to insert a picture from your computer, you'll have to upload the image. Imgur is easy: http://imgur.com/

I've started to use the Boat Browser on my Galaxy S4 primarily because it can still support Flash, but also really like the interface and features. However, it seems to have difficulty with TKP. I've tried switching around the user agents from Mobile > Desktop > Firefox > Safari > iPhone > iPad and no luck. Even tried resetting it to default. Anyone else use this browser and have the problem?

I should add that I had no trouble whatsoever using Boat Browser on TKP, until this morning. I've also tried resetting the phone and clearing the phone's cache. Other mobile browsers are working just fine, but I'd prefer to start using Boat full-time.

Dolphin browser also supports flash, and I've had no problems with it.

Yeah, I've used it before. Having no problems today with Boat, however, and I think of it as a more feature-rich Dolphin.
