The Key Podcast: Jon Laaser, Voice of the Hokies

An interview with the new Voice of the Hokies, Jon Laaser.

After Virginia Tech pegged Jon Laaser as the next voice of the Hokies, the 35-year-old broadcaster has been making the rounds to introduce himself to Hokie Nation. I wanted to talk to Laaser after all of the basic introductions were made, so we could discuss more in-depth topics as opposed to rehashing a basic biography. Our conversation included the role of his position moving into the future, some of the challenges that he'll face the first few months on the job, and his expectations for 2015 Hokie football team.

If any of you have other questions for Jon now or in the future I'm sure this won't be the first time he and I have a conversation for TKP.

I'm always going to miss Bill, but it's sounding like Jon is going to do a great job stepping into those shoes.

I'm also really interested to hear what that quarter of the OSU game that Jon recorded with Mike sounds like.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Is there a way to subscribe to to the podcasts?

He's a very well spoken guy. I like him. Cant wait to hear his call when we stick it in osu.

Do we have a RSS Feed link for these podcasts? When I click on Soundcloud the only episodes on the link are Ep. 102 & 103.

awesome feature!!! Great job Brian! I think we will be fine with Jon at the helm.

Brian, you did an excellent job. Are you looking to be a sportscaster in the future? Very well done.

Only qualm: It's not 'The Matt Ryan Game', it's 'The Matty Ice Miracle in Blacksburg'

I'll just put this here in the meantime.

Anyone else think of 7LoP as the groot of TKP ?
(make the appropriate substitutions)

So his vocabulistics is limited
to "I" and "am" and "Groot."
Exclusively in that order.

I was already on board with Jon, trusting the powers that be to pick a worthy successor to a legend, but I feel even better after listening to this podcast. Jon seems like regular folk, but with an obvious talent for wordsmithing and description. It sounds like he understands the XXXXL shoes Bill Roth left for him to try to fill, and it seems like he is psyched for the task, but in a confident and professional way. The importance of his position may be difficult to comprehend for some of us, but he seems to understand that it's not just about calling the game. My best wishes and sincere hopes for his success.
