Poppycock!

:(

Welp.

@AMB4VT

Ugh.

"Now Miami wants to talk about it." *Cue Enter Sandman*

ouch. he was one of the few higher rated guys we still had a legit shot with.

I will never understand this. You would have to pay me to spend four years of my life in Ohio...oh, nevermind. I guess that kind of explains itself.

that's two of our top targets to them between felder and davis at DB.

I had to log in to up vote that. Well done.

I've lived in both states for considerable years of my life and I would honestly prefer Ohio. Not starting an argument and this has nothing to do with football but I enjoy my time there more than here.

How Firm Thy Friendship

What made you enjoy your time there more? Just curious...

Several things honestly;
The food, the amusement parks, no traffic every time I want to go somewhere, the people are more polite, the food, the golfing, state parks, caves, Lake Erie, the hunting is better, the list (for me) can go on for days. Obviously we won't agree on it and I think it's fair to say we're both biased. I just wanted to make it a point to say it is not the worst thing ever as people seem to believe. I've included a couple links of things to do, feel free to look if you have the time.

Lake Erie

Well that's not typically viewed as a positive for most people I know (source: lived there for about 6 years).

Also, I don't know that I can agree with the hunting either. I'm not an avid hunter, but my dad hunts, mostly deer. Can't say he ever hunted much in Ohio compared to the amount of times he did in Georgia and Virginia which leads me to believe that it really isn't better. I have to say that VA has Ohio beat on state parks though between Civil War Battlefields, Shenandoah and the general Blue Ridge area. But hey, you guys have Amish people. They're fun I suppose.

I can absolutely assure you the deer are bigger in Ohio than both VA and GA...
I said Lake Erie based off of going to visit Put-N-Bay.. I've included a link that gives a pretty good representation of the deer differences (It is 2013 I know, if you find a more recent please let me know). Also the Civil War battlefields are great yes, I like the hiking and cave aspect (Old Man's Cave) of Ohio better.

Oh, yes Amish people are great by the way I wouldn't suggest judging them before you hire them to help you do something. They are the hardest working people I have ever met.

Upvote on Amish people. We got our puppy from an Amish farm in Pennsylvania last summer. Aside from being a little slow-ish, they were extremely nice people and gave us a well cared-for puppy.

He's no good to me dead.

The Amish have gotten into dog breeding, it's bad ju ju. It's puppy mills. We got our dog from a group taken from one.

Agreed, just got one from an Amish farmer and was pretty shocked at the conditions. Wouldn't call it a puppy mill but it was pretty bad.

Maybe the farm I went to was atypical. It was a positive experience for me.

He's no good to me dead.

Only on TKP does a post about a recruiting miss quickly turn into a discussion about Amish puppy mills.
Much respect.

He's no good to me dead.

The hunting is much better in Ohio.

I have heard the same things about Amish and puppies.

Where in VA? Northern VA is very different than the rest of VA

NOVA v ROVA

"That kid you're talking to right there, I think he played his nuts off! And you can quote me on that shit!" -Bud Foster

I live in Cincy now but grew up in Madison County. The deer in Oh are bigger. More corn and Soybeans. It is not uncommon for a buck to dress out at 150. Deer in Va are more plentiful I would say but smaller stature. I love VA for bring so Diverse in scenery. Ocean, mountains, city, country.

Pluses of Cincy, they invent reasons to drink beer in public. Gotta respect that!

I have family in Madison County, that right there is God's country

I am the heartbeat of Blacksburg. A fortress built out of stone but made with champions.

Madison is great. I lived on the Rapidan for a couple years before moving back to blacksburg. Was this close to trying to buy some land and building a house there

Ohio might have big deer but it doesn't have elk.

Edit: yeah I'm wrong. Elk have been seen in southern Ohio. Damn you Google.

I like the list, mainly that you listed food twice as a reason, I respect a man's culinary desires.

Actually the reason I asked was because I had lived in Northern Va after graduating from Tech and disliked it there for some of the same reasons you just listed. What part of Va are you in now or did you live in? I too have moved away from Va.

You nailed it on the head my friend, Quantico for me.

How Firm Thy Friendship

Quantico is hardly northern virginia. Move inside the beltway and give it a try. If you're not into museums, tons of bars and restaurants and somewhat urban living I get it...but Quantico could be in Nebraska as far as I can tell.
Cedar Point is great but seriously - how many times does one frequent an amusement park after the age of 16?
Put-in Bay is cool - Lake Erie can be nice at times. I prefer the ocean and the big bay myself.
(my mom's family is from Sandusky so I have been a hundred times)
My two cents. Carry on...

To be fair, you're exclusively describing Northern Virginia, which is kind of a weird (if economically and population-wise dominating) region of the state.

Most of what you listed is what people love about Virginia as well. Not that I want to put a dog in a fight, bias/home always wins in something like this, but just thought I'd mention that.

King's Dominion and Six Flags pale in comparison to Cedar Point. Everything else, I would say Virginia has got it better, depending on where you look in the state.

He's no good to me dead.

Exactly what I was trying to say up top, we are all biased and I understand this debate will not be decided here. Just wanted to put my .02 cents in before people assume Ohio to be something it is not.

How Firm Thy Friendship

from your list, I'm guessing you live (lived?) in Northern Virginia. Let me apologize on behalf of the rest of the state for that. No one likes Northern Virginia. People live there because they have to for work. In every aspect, but geographic location, it belongs north of the mason dixon line. I've written my congressman asking if we could just give it to Maryland, but no dice.

I grew up in central Virginia and now live in Blacksburg. That's "real" Virginia as far as I'm concerned. Wanna go float a river? Done. Want to hike a mountain? We've got that, too. Caving? Within a ten minute drive of my house. Wanna go watch a football team that beat anOSU last year?

I can't speak to the politeness of Ohioans as a whole, but I can tell you that, in my experience, the average Northern Virginian is on par with your average New Jerseyan rather than your average not-NoVa Virginian.

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

Fair is fair, I have not traveled through the entire state but I did live in Richmond for about 2 years and still preferred Columbus. I would love to head down there and hit the water, kayaking is a beautiful thing.

How Firm Thy Friendship

I'll agree with you on most of what you said about NoVa, but I have to draw the line about being compared to New Jersey. I have lived in NoVa since 1968 and the last 18 years in Clifton. We still don't have a stoplight in town. You can't even say that about Blacksburg. You have to pick your spots. But I will get the hell out in by 2018, 50 years is enough.

"No one likes Northern Virginia"

I don't think that's a really fair/nice thing to say. While there are a lot of transplants living in Northern Virginia, there are a lot of families who have lived there for a long time.

I'm originally from the Loudoun area, which is not nearly as populated and busy as Fairfax. I guess the "Northern Virginia" that some people don't care for is the Fairfax part, but even with the chaos that comes with it, I still think there are plenty of positives.

For starters, Northern VA is very diverse, which allows for a wide array of businesses and restaurants to exist; there are many more options here than there are in other parts of the state. You also don't have to travel very far for shopping either. Sure, the traffic sucks, but everything is within reach.

Also, and I say this without trying to be horribly offensive to New Jerseyans, people from NoVA ARE NOT like people from New Jersey. Maybe the people originally from New Jersey are like New Jerseyans, but on average, NoVA people are not as rude as some may think. Even people from New Jersey (the one's I've met while at Tech) aren't even that rude. I'm fairly sure that a lot of the families who have been living in Nothern VA for decades are not too different in terms of hospitality than people from other parts of the state.

Absolutely love NOVA... as a single male, there is not a place in this world I'd rather be. The female talent and job opps in this area is unreal. There is a metro for a reason to deal with traffic, and no weekend is the same. I grew up in Evansville, Indiana and understand the idea of a simple life, but to get a career on track and for entertainment purposes, not many places match up to the DC metro.

Also, I was born in Columbus and both my parents went to anOSU (chose VT over them and the Spartans), I have been to numerous games at the Shoe (including last year), and nothing compares to a night game in the Burg. I had bragging rights for several months until they won the SHIP, but this year I am looking for a full year of reaching our potential. I'm drinking this MillerLite to 60 days, and to registering on the Richter Scale 9/7.

a mint? that's interesting because my friend just quit his job as a can-crusher. He said it was soda pressing.

That's rough for him; did he head to the bar afterwards? Speaking of bars, did you hear about the ham sandwich that went to the bar? The bartender said "I'm sorry, we don't serve food here".

Tell him to be careful walking. I heard about these 2 guys that walked into a bar, but the third one ducked.

As a West Virginian, your description of SW VA is why I like it. Feels like home.

''The food, the amusement parks, no traffic every time I want to go somewhere, the people are more polite, the food, the golfing, state parks, caves, Lake Erie, the hunting is better''

it is well documented that VT has the best food in the nation.
The fact that Ohio has more '' Caves '' is way too depressing for me to live there.

the people are more polite

pfft... clearly you have forgotten

Same. Anyone who can knock Columbus has never spent any time there.

I've never been to Columbus, but I imagine if you don't like OSU it might get old quickly?!

I wouldn't say that all of the Ohio State hype in Columbus would make the city "get old" to a non-Buckeye fan, but it would probably annoy you. I'm an Ohio State grad who grew up in Columbus, but now live in the southeast.

The bottom line is that both Columbus, Ohio and Blacksburg, Virginia "punch" well above their weight classes. They're just in different categories. Columbus is one of the better semi-large (not too large) cities in the U.S. Blacksburg is one the most pleasant, picturesque, appealing college towns in America.

Buckeye fans lucky enough to travel to Blacksburg this fall are very excited about the trip. We'd like to think that V Tech fans who made the trip to C-Bus last season had a good time. If they didn't, they probably didn't get very good restaurant recommendations, because C-Bus is a very good food town.

"Columbus is one of the better semi-large (not too large) cities in the U.S."
It is weird, Columbus is the 15th largest city by population in the U.S. but you just don't see it. It never seems to dense when you're in the city.

How Firm Thy Friendship

Because it's a sprawling mess. It stretches into 5 counties.

I agree, it is weird how it is laid out and I've never understood it. It really sucks when the roads need plowed and the trucks are miles and miles away.

How Firm Thy Friendship

It's true that Columbus is sprawling. But the mess is Tysons Corner.

Tyson's, at this point, is solely commercial. They're trying to change that, which will take a lot of time, but I don't think it's fair to compare a populated city to a mall and office buildings.

That being said, I gave you a leg because I agree, Tyson's is a mess.

I will likely get beaten up for this, but I've never enjoyed Tyson's and a vast majority of "NoVA" (as they term it on VTs campus). I live currently across the Potomac River in MD and it, too is a sprawling mess (hell, this is true for the whole DC Metro area). Blacksburg and the rest of SW VA, on the other hand, has beautiful weather and landscape during late spring thru early fall (winter can be longer some years due to the mountainous location).
...damn I miss being there...

Well, if you had come back to that beer festival a couple weeks ago...

VT Class of '12 (MSE), MVBone, Go Hokies!

I will come back this summer for my own beer festival.

To me, Columbus doesn't feel like a "big city," and to me that's a huge positive (as you said, the traffic is not bad, a lot of down-to-earth nice people, etc.). Then again, if we go by the population of metro areas, Columbus does only rank 32nd, whereas the DC/Arlington/Alexandria/VA/MD/WV statistical area is 7th.

Not bad traffic? Travelled 270 between 315 and 23 then onto 70. Or Polaris. Or 670 and 70.

Have to agree, my parents live in Gahanna and traveling 670 always makes me want to pull my hair out

If you live in Northern Virginia, the traffic in Columbus seems like a non-event.

Dude. If you can find any study that has Columbus, OH even remotely similar to Washington, DC in traffic congestion, please do share it.

It probably seems like that because its 30th as a metro area, which is what makes other places seem busier. Idk though I've never been

I traveled to the game last year and got in the Sunday before. We had a great time at the OSU, met a lot of nice people and then saw a great football game. I hope we can return the favor for all Ohioans who come to Blacksburg.

I wouldn't say that all of the Ohio State hype in Columbus would make the city "get old" to a non-Buckeye fan, but it would probably annoy you

Florida annoyed me that way for a long, long time.

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

Made the trip, only could stay for about 18-20 hours, but I was floored with how nice everyone was... and that was after the game. OSU fans were actually hi-fiving my friends and I on a good game by our Hokies. Then again, maybe they all had a vision of them winning the championship so that game was irrelevant in the grand scheme of their season, so who knows.

But Columbus seemed like a pretty cool, bigger college town intertwined in an urban environment that I wish I could've experienced for at least two nights. Nothing bad to say about it. Except that it's not as good as Blacksburg.

Just kidding... but seriously.

Oh no look what I've started....

Thank goodness you're a Fireman!

Been to Columbus twice, just for weekends, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I have lived on three continents and both coasts of the US, and although I have spent most of my life in VA, I wouldn't say it's the end all and be all of places. Love the mountains, but I've seen bigger and better ones. Love the rivers, but again, I've seen bigger and better. There is some good hunting, but, again... Blacksburg was a big draw for me, but it was the Hokies and all of the friends I made at VT in the 70's that made it so special. Rural folk can be the best people in the whole wide world, and the biggest jerks you ever need to meet up with. And I have lived the preponderance of my 65 years in the country, so I have met a pretty fair representation of them. Hunting in VA isn't what it used to be, either. VA has allowed the quail and grouse to languish, we've sorely treated the Chesapeake Bay, we are very good at revering the past and resisting the future, but most of us love it here because it's home. I think you were quite right in saying that home-bias is unshakable, and it is an argument with no resolution.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

But which one is BETTER???

Oh, leave it to you to not accept an honest attempt at equivocation! Six days in Columbus does not an opinion solidify, but I liked it. If not for my buds and the Hokies in Blacksburg, I might lean toward Columbus, but I'm no city boy, and to be honest, I have been in several big cities folks would be happy to put down but that I found fascinating. NYC, San Francisco, Denver, London come to mind, but we ain't talking about them. I just think that it's a big wide wonderful world out there and if someone thinks VA is the best place in the world, it's a personal opinion, not likely to change, but "it ain't necessarily so", in my humble opinion. Better? Only if you think so, but that's good enough.

I guess, though, to seriously answer your playful question, I'd have to say neither, overall, was better. Just different.

Edit: After time to think, I'd say that I think of all of the places I've lived, Oregon was the best. Yes, better than Virginia. If I could have found decent work out there, I'd still be there. Alas, though, one of the perqs of home is the networking that can help one get work, among other things. Just my opinion, though, and I'm sure I've said more than enough about this. Leg to you, though, for making me think about it.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

I spent a couple days in Columbus earlier this year. Had planned on seeing a good bit of the city, but I got really hung up around the Brewery District. It was fun for a craft beer lover. Stopped by this brewery that I think had just gotten up and running, Land Grant Brewing Co. Really good Oatmeal Raisin Stout and IPA, and the whole theme of the brewery revolved around the Morril Land Grant Acts that created OSU, VT, etc. Really neat place.

That being said, Blacksburg trumps just about anywhere.

I've lived in both states for considerable years of my life and I would honestly prefer Ohio. Not starting an argument and this has nothing to do with football but I enjoy my time there more than here.

Because it actually makes a difference, where in VA did you live? I can understand that you may prefer OH based on certain qualities, but, honest to goodness, you cannot beat the serenity and beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. (At least, I imagine most of OH is pretty flat to slightly hilly from my first impressions driving thru OH.)

I've lived in a few pArts Of VA and never disliked the state till I lived in NoVA. I lived in Arlington and then Tysons. I was ready to dip out of the region and bought a place in NE DC. Love being in the area now, unless of course I'm traveling down 66. People are great in my hood and love access to all the great amenities. We may move down the road to say Asheville, but not because of where we live (other reasons...)

I'll throw my 2 worthless cents in - having lived in both states. I'm originally from Kentucky. From there, going south, the summers are stifling (although mountainous areas south of there are a little better). This summer has been weird up here in NE Ohio with heat/humidity, some cold spells, and tons of rain (8" in June). I live in Holmes County, Ohio (Amish Country), and typically I have summer days of near 80 with low humidity - and I just find that delightful. I grew up with 90+ degrees and high humidity where you can't breathe and you start sweating the second you step out of a cold shower. The weather is a mixed bag in April and May. It can be hot or snowing. June, July, and August are warm and comfortable to do anything outside. Sept and Oct are my favorite months: 60's and 70's for highs and 40s to 50's for lows. Now, at some point in Nov or Dec you start asking: why in the heck do I live here? The cold and snow is no joke, and it lasts through March. You get really sick of blowing and shoveling snow. That's the tough part, but if I have the choice of Ohio summers with the downside of the winter, or southern summers with the upside of winter, I'm taking where I am at. But that's a personal preference. If you have winter like we do, you need a 4WD truck and a few toys to have fun in the snow, and just make the best of it.

I live on a township road about 1/2 mile long. All of my immediate neighbors are Amish. We have no crime. I haven't locked my doors or taken my keys out of the ignition in decades. We have no slums. Everyone is employed. It's a great, great place to live. The tourists just about drive us out of our minds, mainly for driving 30 MPH in 55 MPH zones, and for stopping in the middle of a state highway to snap a picture of a cow or the like. But we know the back roads to avoid them. The Amish have some wonderful principles that would be applicable to every person and family, and they do some things that are real head-scratchers. But they are the best neighbors I have ever had. You couldn't move me out of here with an Abram's tank.

But I have nothing negative to say about central Va. If I could wake up every morning and see those mountains, you would never hear any complaints from me. It's a little too hot in the summer, but the winters are more tolerable. Neither one is better than the other, just different.

Behind an Amish buggy going up a long, curvy hill

Probably figured he had less competition to start at anOSU than DBU.

He's no good to me dead.

Win a national title and recruiting suddenly gets much easier. Rich get richer. Alas.

He is a top player (18th to 40th rated CB), but I saw on another site that he ran a 4.58 40 at a combine. That's not exactly elite for a DB. I suspect he has posted better times than that at camps and workouts, and he does appear to have good cover skills. Regardless, this doesn't look like a "can't miss" guy. But if Urban recruited him, he saw something he liked. I'm interested in finding out what he knows that isn't apparent.

Behind an Amish buggy going up a long, curvy hill

Our old rival OSU fell for the honey trap. We knew that Urban would think that if Virginia Tech wanted him he must be gold. Hehehehehe, Dr. Evil strikes again. Our September 7th plan is falling into place. Hehehehehe!

Nah, can't blame a kid for choosing what he believes will work best for him.

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

If that is where he wants to be fine, but hopefully he'll reconsider after the game result on September 7th.

I can't wait for 9/7. My dreams are getting more vivid - I dreamt this morning I was tailgating before the game and when I woke up, I thought for a good 30 seconds that the game was actually today and I had to get my Buckeye gear on. Then I realized it's still July and I just had to go to the eye doctor and work. Disappointment.

I'm a Hokie, but many of my cousins are Buckeyes. And I have respect for the school and program. I am really excited for this game too. My opinion is the key will be Ohio State's rushing attack. If the Hokies can contain the Buckeyes run game, then it will be a close game where either team could conceivably win. However, if the Buckeyes run like they did against Alabama and Oregon, then OSU will demonstrate why they are #1.

I'll never fret over losing out on a DB.

Would he had been a nice addition? Yes, but we accomplish more with 2 - 3 stars DB recruits than most schools do with 5 star recruits. Foster and Gray will be just fine with the DBs that want to be Hokies.

THIS! Well said.

@AMB4VT

While the track record does create confidence, you still can't overlook the importance of getting some of these guys.

Men like Kendall Fuller for example don't just show up on campus and start going beast mode from Day 1 very often.

Men like Kendall Fuller do. Ordinary men do not.

What's Important Now

We probably will be fine but it's hard to ignore what Foster and Gray can do with the 4/5 star guys.

Agreed and it's his loss that he won't have coaches Foster and Gray for the next 3 or 4 years!

"Most students who are there want to be nowhere else... Once a Hokie, always a Hokie." - Chris Fowler

The way I see it, Bud takes 3-star recruits (personally stars don't mean crap, it's the size of the heart that is important but I digress) and will turn them into an All-American from DBU!!!

Yea except there's a Huge difference in Chuck Clark and Kendall Fuller

One could leave in a year as a 1st round Draft Pick, or chose to stay a final year and leave as Tech's most awarded player. In the next 2 Years I see Fuller winning both Chuck Bednarik Award and the Jim Thorpe Award

Clark is a great player

But huge difference

I don't smell anything...wait, what's that? OMG!!

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

We haven't had our annual summer meltdown as a fan base yet. Cue the chicken littles? As good a time as any.

I am sure the immediate gratification lunatic fringe is airing their grievances over other forms of communication.

I am not thrilled with this. However, when I look at the performance of the other high profile misses associated with VT in recent years, very few (Stephone Anthony, Travis Hughes, Marquise Williams, Jonathan Allen, Landon Turner) have become productive players. Many others are still developing (Hand) or never panned out (see Curtis Grant.)

The guys that they have missed that were under the radar, like Anthony Harris, Kevin Hogan, etc- nobody was screaming about them either way.

I wonder if we could have coached them up better or fit them better in our system than the other schools. I'm not one of those burn it down people but I always wonder what could have been with some of those guys

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Still mad about Stephone Anthony... please stop bringing him up. I'm trying to enjoy the fact that he's in the NFL now.

(Why, Bud, why!!?? Why couldn't we get him here???!!!!!)

Leonard. Duh.

Does it make you feel better to know Luther Maddy got the scholarship earmarked for Anthony?

It does actually, since I also understand that Maddy's recruitment also got us a kid named Wedley Estime. Now known as Dadi Nicolas.

Thank you.

Leonard. Duh.

Happy to help. That bit of info softened the blow considerably for me as well.

and even with all that, Bud still physically appears in pain when Anthony is mentioned. Bud loved his game.

It's hard to be upset by recruiting anymore. We are what we are.

And this year, in particular, we don't even have a lot of high profile targets. Davis was way up there for me, but he's imminently replaceable. We need some good OL recruits, but mining guys we have yet to even hear about would probably work out just as fine as the guys you have.

Our regime change seems to be downright imminent at this point, so it's hard to expect recruiting to improve. Just hope this year has enough good players that it doesn't set us back.

the good news is that it seems we are identifying quality talent. I haven't followed recruiting that closely this year, but seems like plenty of guys we saw first or nearly first now have long offer lists. We are good at identifying good players, so go sign 25 3* kids and hope we get 10-13 or so who are productive.

Much appreciated.

Was it because we act entitled?

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

There's that word again...

He's no good to me dead.

The only reason this bothers me at all is that it means we're not landing any of the top10 prospects from VA in the 2016 class. (Pending any potential flips)

Wiley, Brown, Russell, Drakeford, Gray, Banks, Prioleau, Charleton, Midget, Bird, McCadam, Pile, Hall, Green, Fuller, Williams, Hamilton, Rouse, Flowers, Harris, Chancellor, Carmichael, Hosley, Fuller, Exum, Jarrett

Yes, I agree. It's not losing this one guy, it the cumulative effect of striking out on the entire VA top 10.

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

Bye....

Apparently this actually does sum up Torrian's feelings pretty well. The guys (read: not posters, sane people) over on 247 were saying that Torrian just didn't see him as a fit for what he likes to do with his DBs. He was important for perception, but not necessarily for on-field success.

My problem is that we could have both Fuller and Facyson go pro next year and with the other graduating DBs we could be looking thin next year. He looks to be the kind that could fill right in. So the combination of being the best DB factory in the country, mixed with immediate PT was not enough to bring this kid in, where do we make improvements? Is it just winning?

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Honestly we'll probably stay at this level of recruiting until Beamer retires. Not that he's a bad recruiter or anything, but it's very easy to recruit against coaches that might retire any minute now (see the meltdown at SCAR with Spurrier). Winning and losing don't matter as much as coaching for recruiting, its about the sales pitch, which the coach is a central part of (see Tom Herman).

Best case, we hover around this level of borderline top 30 classes until we get a new HC. Then hopefully he can sell the "new" program like many new coaches do.

And Fuller and Facyson could grow antlers next year too. Facyson isn't going anywhere next year.

And I'm pretty confident that at least one of the several promising guys currently on campus - that will probably be getting plenty of playing time in 2015 - will be ready in 2016.

I think Facyson is back next year for certain. Not only the injuries the guy has had to endure, but he has already made it clear that he sees a future for himself that is not all football. He wants to go to medical school I believe, and getting your degree is a huge part of that.

He seems to me like one of those kids that is extremely passionate about football, because he also sees it as the way to achieve what he really wants, and is taking advantage of the opportunity it provides . Its a very refreshing thing to see in a top college athlete.

There is a good chance he might change his mind on 9/8.

Or at least wish he had.

Sure would like to get some good recruiting news instead of this.

even more reason for head shaking. As someone pointed out above, by the time he gets here, it's possible we will have just sent our starting corners to the NFL (Fuller and Facyson) and he'd be able to compete for playing time right off the bat.

Well, we all know what "verbal commitments" are worth. Sometimes a lot and sometimes nothing. This is one I will be watching to see how solid it is.

But this is where you have to hand it to Alabama. For 10 years they have been able to stock 4 and 5 star players at every position, but the guys coming in keep coming. I think Saban challenges them as to whether they are afraid of competition, and I think the lure of national championships makes them willing to wait their turn.

Am I the only one who is disturbed by the whole recruiting set up? Seriously, there are grown-ass men who are stalking every tweet a 17 year old boy sends out. A kid commits to a school and those same men are calling him names and condemning him to hell. Some of these kids have 5 rounds of commit/decommit before they land somewhere. I hate the whole hat-fake-out thing, and the "I'm taking my incredible talent to..." It's really ridiculous.

I get excited when I see a kid commit with little hoopla, a lot of humility, and says things like, "I look forward to working hard as a student and player, finding my place, and contributing however I can." That's the kid that's a keeper.

^ YUP. I agree on all fronts. The way these high-schoolers are courted is really disturbing. That's why I really love and respect the way, ostensibly, we go after kids. The team is a family and if you want to be a part of it, you're in.

Totally just read this thinking we were on the Shai underage sex scandal thread. Boy, that would be awkward.

He's no good to me dead.

Now I feel like I need to take a long shower to scrub that off!

I'm 51 years old. If you are 30, I might refer to you as a "kid". If you are 17, you are a child - even if you are 6-5, 300. It's one of the habits of perspective that come with age - and maybe its a bad one. :)

I hit 65 in a couple of months, and I concur. And no, I don't think that's a bad perspective. It's a natural one. While we might wish to be able to be younger again, they can only hope to grow old. I wish them all the luck and half the pain.

According to many experts over at TSL, its starting to look very likely that we're going to go 0-fer with the Top 10 in the Commonwealth in recruiting this year.

Not good.

Interesting how the post stating that torrian thought he wasn't a good fit got completely ignored. If TG doesn't think he'll work out for us then no loss in my book.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

That post referenced "The guys (read: not posters, sane people) over on 247", which is still #sources in my mind.

If TG had come out and stated on the record something like "I don't know why we are listed among potential schools for him because he doesn't have and won't receive an offer from VT.", then that would be a different matter.

Would we have expended any recruiting effort on a DB that TG thought "wasn't a good fit"? I hope not, unless we had a different position in mind for him (WR?).

Torrian is prevented by NCAA rules from commenting on any recruit. #Sources are the best we're going to get. Believe if you want, or not.

"Exit light..."

Schools cannot name recruits to which they have and have not extended offers?

No, they cannot comment on any prospect at all until the LOI is sent in.

"Exit light..."

Well then...

Thanks.

So not sure if this has been mentioned, Davis is ANOTHER throughbreds player. Are they still pushing kids Away?

Saw 170+ comments on a thread about a recruit going somewhere else. Expected the worst...Got a really long thread comparing Ohio and Virginia, complaints about Nova, Amish puppy mills, and some really bad (even for TKP) puns.

In this one case I'll say, thank goodness for the off-season.
