I'm starting to think Hodges is going to show us what we missed out on with Logan Thomas switching to QB. The only difference, he runs like a WR instead of a bulldozer. This year could be a very special one.

He was the number 1 rated TE out of high school, regardless of playing QB and was recruited by VT as such. Although he projected to be a star TE for us, we needed a QB more. IIRC, he wanted to stay at TE probably because of NFL projections but agreed to make the switch to QB.

And how many articles were printed that interviewed Thomas where he said he had to be convinced to play qb because he anyways envisioned himself as a te?

Not to dive into this rabbit hole too much, but for me personally, I think it is wrong to say he is a "converted" TE or that he "switched" his position. He played exactly zero downs at that position in a game, ever. He split out as a WR in a game against Wake and that was it. Whatever the prognosticators envisioned or what LT hoped he would do are, for me, irrelevant in this argument. It's what he played on the field. Maybe he spent some time on the practice squad as TE, but then we have to be saying how Bucky is such an amazing converted QB to be playing TE - the anti-LT!

But do you really think he would have come to the school that wanted him to play QB when he wanted to play TE? Sure they may have had plans for him to play QB in the future but the priority at the time was to get him on campus. I'm sure it was something along the lines of "you'll have the opportunity to play TE or QB". Point is, he wasn't expecting QB but had fallen in love with the team so he did what the coaches asked of him. I'm sure this happens all the time.

So Stinespring and FB knew they wanted him as a QB, recruited him as a TE and then put him in the position he had been playing. If he had played TE that would have been the position switch. LT was not a high school TE he was a QB. The whole "moved LT to QB" is a bunch of BS.

What I like about this gif is Ford, a freshman in this huge game, having the maturity to come over and basically say 'Dude, stop. You're gonna get a flag.'

Either that or he's thinking "Why the hell did I get tickets in the student section? I hope Virginia Tech scores another touchdown so these damn kids will shut up!"

This may be a dumb question, but would it make sense to run the following scenario/how would a defense react to it: bucky lines up in a traditional TE in-line stance. A LB is matched up with him. He motions out wide. Cam moves to the slot (after bucky is set, can't have two in motion). Does the lb stay on bucky out wide, does he cover cam in the slot, does a safety move down to cover cam leaving room over the top?

THIS. I can't wait to see the types of mismatches he will help create! There is hope for our offense yet....if only we brush off the "false start"/"illegal procedure"/"illegal formation" bug.

Leg up. Our penalties have been egregious and ongoing the past few seasons. Eliminate more than the normal and unavoidable of them, and we have a different story going for us. This has been hard to swallow for me, and I don't know whether to blame the players or the coaches, but it must stop for us to reach our potential.

So then what you are saying is that this year....
So you're saying that Bucky is like....
AB how does Cline look? Will he be back to making plays? How will this effect Hodges?

Ok first things first LT did not switch to QB from TE. LT was a QB who lead his team to the state playoffs.
He was the number 1 rated TE out of high school, regardless of playing QB and was recruited by VT as such. Although he projected to be a star TE for us, we needed a QB more. IIRC, he wanted to stay at TE probably because of NFL projections but agreed to make the switch to QB.
Must we, again?
Thank you
Not sure where you saw that VT recruited him as a TE, but Stinespring and FB both said they brought him to Tech to play QB.
And how many articles were printed that interviewed Thomas where he said he had to be convinced to play qb because he anyways envisioned himself as a te?

While he may have wanted to play TE the coaching staff all along knew what they were getting him for.

He actually said any team that recruited him as a QB only was off his list.
Not sure which side of the discussion you're on at this point but thanks for this supporting statement!

On a quasi-related note, am I the only one who gets way too much enjoyment from the fact that Stinespring's initials are BS?

To which Bucky replies: ' I ain't hearing it.'

I can't stop watching
He knows.

Let's predict the top 3. Bitter said they're all on the offensive side of the ball...
"Two reliable backs" has already been used and so I don't imagine it's a running back (ala JC Coleman after his nice finish last season).
WR's have already been mentioned
#1 is probably Michael Brewer
#2 is probably the offensive line
Who/what am I missing?
Scot Loeffler
Beat me to it

Frank the tank!
Even though he is also #17, all 3 spots will be occupied by Sam Rogers.
Scot Loeffler...

Brush it off? We need to kill that bug
You run a zone defense and blitz so that Brewer doesn't have time to identify the open hole.
Someone on our offense creating mismatches. Yes, it is happening and I could not be happier.
We have an O player that will cause defenses to be afraid? super duper!
Been dancing since...
