Hey guys,
I don't know if this has been addressed yet on TKP but there is a vtfootball snapchat that seems to be someone on the inside of things during football activities.
The posts on this snapchat user are lots of drills, views of the new indoor facility, and other football related activities.
Today there are a few posts of some of the team lifting. Snaps include front squats from Isaiah Ford, Terrell Edmunds, JC Coleman, and others!
How to add vtfootball snapchat:
1) Open app
2) Click ghost icon in top center of photo screen
3) Click Add Friends
4) Add by Username "vtfootball" and you're all set.
Go Hokies!

Its been mentioned but there's a solid portion of TKP that refuse to use it.
I like it. You get to see a bunch "behind the scenes" stuff
Yes although some here despise it, it does give you some stuff that you won't get anywhere else! That's the only reason I have snapchat to see some awesome stuff!
Refresh my memory - why do people dislike it?

"I'm old, I don't want to"
Well thanks for calling us out like that....
Don't look at me, I'm just relaying the info
Old?
More like, I got better things to do than learn every new app that comes out and monitor 15 of them.
2 jobs, 2 kids and starting a new business. Don't have time for that.
You guys will post the important stuff here.
To put a bit of a PR spin on this...at 31, I feel that I would be the social media equivalent of the weird old guy at the metal concert. So, I shall entrust the young TKP'rs to comb the web for the awesome VT Football stuff that I don't find and post it here. Because I'm old...and lazy.
And now I play the waiting game.
I'm older than that but due to my previous job and my current one, I'm pretty clued in but have other priorities.
I have other guys that stare at their phones all day at work.
They'll not get far. I have been far in a couple fields and will go far in a new, different field.
And I want to open my own brewery.
Not enough time to futz with different apps for different stuff, all alerting me I've got things to look at.
It's a distraction.
Just priorities.
I feel ya, starting a new business right now too.
I know social media plays a role in businesses these days, just have to pick a couple and go full steam.
I still have over a month of my 20s left before I get old.
I just turned 30 two months ago. its all down hill from here.....
It starts really picking up speed when you hit sixty.
I really do respect all opinions on here, but hope that there is no one saying VT should be using a different platform to distribute this stuff and has also commented on VT needing to improve recruiting strategies (VT is behind, and trying to catch up).
I for one enjoy a little nugget here and there of behind the scenes action. Took 30 seconds to download the app, and about 30 seconds now and then to check out the feed. We all have a lot going on, but if you have time to post here, then you have ample time to watch an 8 second clip, or as another alternative as mentioned, others will comb for the good stuff and post.
It's not we don't want to use it or see the content there has to be a better way to put it out there. I use it but the app is not exactly without faults. The same videos could easily be uploaded to better platforms.
Better platforms for Alumni and fans, yeah maybe. But this is what recruit aged dudes use, this is the best platform for them to get exposed to VT through video. It is beyond smart for VT Football to use snapchat as a platform for sharing videos.
Correct and they should do both in fact do every platform from Twitter, to snapchat, to Facebook to Instagram.
Doing that would just flood all of those feeds with videos that for the most part aren't anything more than mildly interesting. That's why snapchat is perfect for this. No need for 10 videos of our players doing 3 squat reps
Exactly. Each medium is geared towards a certain type of message.
Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the
Pay the coaches, to get new facilities and scholarship cost of attendance? One would think doing everything to get EVERYONE involved would pay out in the end.
No one's stopping you from using Snapchat. It's your choice not to use it, and there are plenty of other mediums for you to get your Virginia Tech news. Tech have to find a way to connect to the younger, future donors and using meidums like snapchat do a great job at it.
It was the original post which smacked of a bit of ageism which raised the hackles.
They reach their target audience, the under 25 crowd. It's the easiest and fastest way for VT football to reach out to their younger fans. Uploading and posting things to websites takes much more time, this is much more efficient.
You completely misunderstand/are misusing the medium. Snapchat is supposed to give you a quick glance into someone's life. Media isn't put on snapchat to be analyzed or replayed (obviously).
yeah, everyone needs to calm down. Snapchat is ONE (1) form of social media that you can choose to be part of, or not. If you like it, GREAT! If you don't like it, GREAT! Lives and careers will not be made or ruined by knowing how an app works.
The VT Football snapchat's are pretty awesome. Anyone who says I refuse to snapchat is missing out on great content that they literally cannot get any other place. Watching the entire team get hyped around JC Coleman as he front squats big weight was pretty cool.
It was awesome seeing all of the squat videos today, and all the previous stuff from workouts, drills in the spring, etc are really cool
Did you see those 1 on 1 tug of war clips? Easily the coolest so far
Everyone on here would enjoy JC doing the 465 squat. It's worth the add for sure.
Ugh, I was hoping to check that out without having to sign up for something.
Oh wait nevermind I forgot hot to internet:
http://virginiatech.247sports.com/Board/59428/Contents/VIDEO-JC-Coleman-...
Damn, I wish I had never signed up for tkp. I can get all of the information without signing up and knowing how to internet. /s
Nay!
I thought snapchat was just for flashing people via them mobile phone thingies. /s
Some great video from the workouts this AM on the vtfootball snapchat. Worth the add for sure
This.
Is that the crossbar in the Beamer Barn? Why is it all wonky?
It actually hangs down from the ceiling and is not rigid.
It's just a net with a ribbon/banner for the goal posts.
Ah, gotcha.
I think it's a net with a yellow outline, not an actual field goal/cross bar.
Just downloaded and added to my phone. Enjoyed this video of the early workout. Good stuff
A whole lot of J. Evans this morning...
If you don't embrace Snapchat and other social media platforms, a lot of BTS access will pass you by. If you don't like the BTS, that's fine, but their own Snapchat, Periscope, whatever other platform pops up tomorrow, is gonna be the best access you can have to your teams. Traditional media is watered down for the most part, and slowly dying in it's current format.
BTS?
behind the scenes
Behind the scenes
Yep. Behind the scenes.
No one else is gonna get that access. They can control the narrative as well. Pretty brilliant, especially if they can find a way to monetize it...I mean...THE STUDENTS COME FIRST.
Diablo doesn't look like a grown ass man out there.
I'm out of breath just watching that minute or so of snapchat story. The players weren't kidding about conditioning being amped up this year.
Fuente is looking extra comfortable in those sweats.
Durkin working out with the WRs and TEs. Really hope we see him angrily run over some people this fall.
Evans looks very quick and fluid. Plus he looks built like a LB. Love how hard the QBs are going to be pushing each other.
Definitely can see the intensity and pace under the new staff. Fuente also very hands on. Like it.
I was going to comment on the mentality. I'm really hoping Fuente brings the underdog mentality to practice that he had at Memphis. Could you imagine having raw talent leaps and bounds ahead of what you were used to but still having them bust their ass like they were no name 0 stars with a chip on their shoulders?
Same thoughts on Evans. Holy crap. He definitely looks like an LB but was SOOO agile and fluid with his cuts and movements. Man he is quick.
Lawson also looked good in a different set, but whoever went right after Evans (Motley I think, did he cut his hair?) looked like he had nothing on Evans' mobility. I've been dialing back the hype on Evans but he is an animal. Oh boy...
Yeah, that was Motley who went after Evans in that drill. I wasn't sure if he was still recovering from his surgery/if that surgery was in any way inhibiting his mobility, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt there. But still, Evans looks unbelievably swift at his size. He got in and out of that drill in no time. His feet are incredibly quick.
Motley might still be recovering from surgery. Yes, it was on his upper body, but I think the procedure was somewhere around 6-8 weeks ago.
Edit: What he said ^. Also, try not to make comparisons from what you see on Snapchat. Evans finished last in a sprint this morning... but that doesn't mean he's the slowest QB out there.
Certainly wind sprints are different than foot drills, & totally different metrics (fast vs quick).
But I get your point and I agree about the edited lense of snapchat being incomplete yet we can still make some comparisons from what we've seen. After all, it's the offseason haha. But seriously, it's plain as day that Evans is on another level than Motley in regards to foot speed and agility, even taking the surgery into account. Not knocking Motley, they just have very different skill sets.
Evans is a guy on the field I don't think will look fast, but everyone around him will look really, really slow. He's just so smooth in stride.
Sounds like Marcus Vick.........what could have been......
Yeah. That career got stomped out.
excuse the ignorance...I hate technology...but how in the world do you see the posts on snapchat? It keeps wanting me to send a chat to them....
1. Open the app (first screen will be a camera view of either yourself or in front of you)
2. place thumb on screen and move towards the left (this will bring up your story board)
3. find account labeled "vtfootball"
4. tap account labeled "vtfootball" (may need to load, which requires a second tap after loading)
5. Profit
Checkout this youtube video!

There we go!! That worked. Couldn't get the other procedure to work...lol. Man I really hate new technology. The future is going to suck! lol.
How long do the videos stay in snapchat? I just added vtfootball today and there are no videos under the story board
I think snaps only stay posted to your story for 24hrs. So if there's nothing posted they haven't added anything in the last 24.
I'm old (in my 30's) but I always though snap chat was for sending dong pix to girls... /s
Might be the least necessary /s ever.
Dong pics?
Obligatory....

I hate when it trickles...
It's a shame he retired before Flomax came out. That was a sponsorship match made in heaven.
I find most of what's posted on snapchat to be fluff, but I'm glad that people who enjoy watching it have access to it!
Are the videos at least recorded with the correct orientation?...or do these people have the too-lazy-to-hold-phone-correctly affliction also?
Snapchat requires vertical video. So yes, the too-lazy-to-hold-phone-correctly affliction. But it's what the medium demands, so it fills the screen. No black bars. I honestly don't follow, but if they are shooting it horizontally, that's bad.
Does it come with a free fro-gurt?
What do you mean by "requires vertical video"?
Because you can absolutely take videos while holding the phone horizontally.
Yeah but any text/filters (by filters I mean the "This Is Home" logo for example) will be flipped 90 degrees because the app is intended for vertical video.
True. Odd that they haven't addressed that.
A "tech" school using technology! Gasp!! /s
I get that some don't want to use it, I don't either, but really come on people. One look at the hokiesports website and the asinine video player they use and it should tell you how far the athletic department needs to go to even get contemporary in website design, let alone "inventing the future" as it should be. However and whatever they can use to get closer to "up to date" with technology the better in my opinion, and as some stated it's a great way to connect to recruits.
all that being said, if someone wants to record the videos and post on youtube I would greatly appreciate it.
It's not just the athletic program either. Banner is a terrible system and it's everywhere. I'm VP for a club on-campus and the room reservation system makes me want to shoot myself in the face every time I have to use it.
Apparently they listened to TKP yesterday. They posted a bunch of stuff on HokiesFB twitter account this morning.
Great work everybody! Really got after it.
Who was the little white kid with maybe red hair (not Sam this kid was skinny)smoking the sprints this morning??
I don't know but he reminds me of Danny Coale
He reminds me of Edelman, Welker, Amendola, and Jordy Nelson. /s
Because they are all fast and short?
Isn't his last name Fox out of Salem High School? I mean all the white guys look the same S/
They all have a great motor and are good route runners.
Maybe CJ Caroll, not sure at all though
Man, if you ask me - Marshawn Williams is looking....hefty. And not in a good way. I know he hasn't been able to do a ton of conditioning, but yikes.
He was lookin like a DT, i actually didnt recognize him till you said that and i rewatched the stories
There is nothing to back this up but my own gut feeling (no #sauces here) but I'm not optimistic about either Marshawn or Shai's prospects going forward.
I feel a little bit more optimistic about Shai since they shut him down pretty quick last season when it was apparent he wasn't 100% (he just rushed back too quickly). Marshawn reinjuring the same knee in less than 12 months and having significant weight issues is very troubling. I also think he probably tried to rush himself back last year WAY too quickly, while Shai was borderline. In any case, Juice looks like he's going to have to drop a bunch of weight to be in playing shape from the video this morning.
It's almost like he should be getting up early every morning and running 5am workouts to get in shape. s/
Let's hope he can get down to a good playing weight with the workouts. He already had trouble staying at the right weight before the knee injury. I'd hate to see him put all this work in this spring and show back up in the fall above weight.
One of Shane's last interviews in December he said that Shai seemed to be back to old form. Marshawn likely won'y play next year, he's got time to shed the weight
What about Travon? TMac was grooving at the end of last season. Don't sleep on him.
I thought Travon is the man to beat for the starting spot coming into this year.
Seconded. Motion carries.
via GIPHY
I agree. My gut instinct is to not depend on either of them going forward. If one of the two of them returns and can be a backup, I would consider that a success.
I remember the George Bell situation clearly.
I think that Shai will be ok. It sounded like he was looking good at the end of the season in practice. M. Williams should probably sit this coming season out. Two injuries to the same knee in 12 months is not good.
I've said it before, but I really question the medical staff after what happened to M. Williams and Shai. Shai had two serious knee injuries in back to back seasons, and Williams injured his knee in Oct of his freshman year. These guys should not have been pushing themselves to be ready for last season. I understand why THEY would want to and I think it is great that they want to play, but the medical staff should have shut them down.
I believe they have said Shai will be a go in the spring. Maybe not for contact but for other work. I expect him to be back and 100% for fall. Marshawn I don't think will be ready
100% sometimes just ain't what it used to be.
100% is the same as 100% from 1000 years ago.
Nah. George Bell was "100%" when he returned. His 100% just wasn't as good as his 100% was before his injuries.
I'm 100% today. My 100% just isn't what it was when I was 22.
Nah. You getting old is not analogous to returning from injury. For every Adrian Peterson or Deshaun Watson, yes, there are George Bells. 100% physically healed does not always translate to being the same player. There are obviously the mental issues that come along with it among other things.
A coach calling a player 100% is different from a trainer. Granted, this came from Shane, so take it with a grain of salt. But George Bell is not the only reference point here.
Exactly. Performance and healed are different. Saying he will be 100% for fall camp means he is healed and ready to play. It does not say he is as good as he would have been if he was not injured. Different measuring sticks.
Yeah, we're saying the same thing, you have stated it wonderfully.
He'll be 100% healthy, but will he ever be 100% of the runner he once was? We should be cautious to assume so.
If you don't get it, you don't get it.
what is this, the Washington Post?
3 claps and a ric flair
Joey Slye is out there looking massive and killing it in the workouts.
Anyone else notice a few players were wearing Maroon shirts instead of the white everyone else was wearing. The only two players I could ID were Sam Rogers and Bucky Hodges wearing Maroon. Didn't know if this was a "established" player vs none, or players showing great work ethic.
Well, there were a lot more. Look at the first scene - DeAndre Plantin, Terrell Edmunds, and several other guys in the middle are in maroon. Probably just different colors for different drills or something. Initially I thought it might be some sort of "captain" role, which it could be, but it seems there are a lot of guys with them.
But that said, damn is Sam Rogers a good and vocal leader. I got a kick out of the "three claps and a Ric Flair" deal. Hilarious.
The players earn the Maroon shirts for going 100%. Those are your workout warriors and giving everything they have every drill. Conte and Teller are two others that have earned the Maroon shirt. I would not be shocked to see more and more players in Maroon in upcoming snaps.
Figured it was something like that. Great to see that happening. What does the front of the short say I couldn't read it on my phone screen.
Plus, I'm pretty sure at the end Fuente said something about he's seeing a lot of guys who are mad that they are in white shirts. Seems like a motivational tool. I like it
Dang, beat me to it. Not refreshing the page will really get after ya
I didn't play sound, I'll do that when I'm free later.
And there is hardly a player not busting there ass at this practice. Everyone is hauling ass.
Plus there was video from our beautiful weight room. Looking at you Fireman.
...then I'm especially pleased to hear Plantin is wearing maroon. We need that kid.
Last snap this morning Fuente addressed that there were players still in white and that they needed to earn their maroon shirts. So as mentioned above, it seems like a merit based recognition.
It is a merit based program, It has been so for spring workouts for a very long time now. Beamer regime had done it as well. Players are split into teams where they switch from drill to drill, the team thats performs the best that day receives the shirt to wear for oncoming workouts. By the end of workouts everyone will work their way to getting one.
Love all the snaps but i swear this account alone destroys my battery life with how many videos they put up. Game day is the best when you see everyone getting hyped on the sidelines after big plays.
Really wish VT football had picked a different slogan other than "draw the line" too many potential political uses of that for it to be a slogan used on social media.
Who knew this forum topic would be getting so much love 7 months later? Glad I posted it. Sorry, old guys.
This made my morning.
Let me get 3 claps and a Ric Flair!
Love the echo!!
