Virginia Tech offensive line coach Stacy Searels offered the Rome, Georgia product in May. After his offer, the 6-5, 275 pound prospect told The Key Play, "I definitely want good academics, but I really want a place to feel at home, that makes me feel comfortable."
The 247Sports composite ranks Kearns as a 3-star prospect. He selected Virginia Tech over N.C. State, Kentucky and Georgia Tech. He joins OT Thomas Jarrett Hopple as Tech's second offensive lineman in committed for the 2016 cycle.
Kearns made his first trip to Blacksburg on June 15, and was sold on the campus.
"I really liked it, it was just such a great college town," Kearns told The Key Play in July . "They showed me around the new indoor facility, it was something else."
"He's really my kind of guy (Stacy Searels), a country guy like me," Kearns told The Key Play in July. "I'd love to have him as my offensive line coach someday."
Someday was Saturday.

I get the feeling he will be the first of several to commit this weekend. Welcome to Hokie Nation Patrick.
More coming!
Welcome to Hokie Nation! Now let's get him into West End
Excellent news.
Searels pulling in big boys!! Love it
Nice - looks like he was the only OL in the group visiting this weekend.....
with Kearns committed, we need Dickerson next!
welcome to Hokie Nation, Patrick!
Fricking A right! Just what we needed! A big body for the OL. This guy looks like he could carry 300 lbs easily without losing agility. A few more of these road graders and the run game will be spitting out 1000 yd rushers again in no time.
And he didn't use the chicken emoji!
You know...as stronger as we are in CS and Eng, you would think we have someone on the inside at Apple to get a turkey or HOKIE bird or somethInc in their emoji list.
Outstanding! Hokie Haven is reporting Beckett also committed.
They jumped the gun and didn't let the kid have his time, not a big fan of that.
Boom!! Cant wait to watch the pancakes this kid makes!! Welcome to hokie nation good sir.
After watching this kids film, I have 2 comments:
1. Right now he's a lean 6'5" tackle. He'll need a yr or two b4 he can contribute, but once he fills out his large shoulder frame, he could be nasty. In a few of those highlights, even though he had good positioning, he struggled to move some of the bigger defenders. I like his base; as Wade Hansen put it: "mass moves mass". Get some, and he'll factor in.
2. I love how he continued play through the whistle. On multiple plays he released his first level of contact and moved on to the second and third, looking for guys to hit. He's been coached up, looks like a great get!
Kip always will get you a leg. Enjoy!
Thought you said Kif.

Back when wrestling was good. Great, even.
YES! OL! I counted 4 pancakes and 1 maybe. Betcha he is around 300 when he gets here. One of his jobs, Jake Grove style, will be to protect the lighter weight classes on the wrestling team when they antagonize someone much larger than them. Oh yeah,,get one more!
Throw a massive barbecue for 20+ recruits and their families? 10 grand more or less. Pick up a commitment that make Coach Searels drool for more than cooked meat? PRICELESS!!
It was much more than 20, but the point still stands.
Better keep an eye on little bro to his left! Kid looks like he gonna be BIG!!
GUYS, THE MOD IS BACK! HIDE YOUR NSFW STUFF! EVERYONE ACT COOL!
Move along, nothing to see here.
This dude and Hopple and Dickerson and the other studs bodes for a great future in our offensive trenches. The return of the run game is nigh.

have to land Dickerson first.
I might have confused a dream with real life there, but here's to hoping!
