Day one of the Frank Beamer BBQ was a success. The Hokies secured verbal commitments from both 2016 offensive tackle Patrick Kearns, and 2016 outside linebacker Tavante Beckett. Today is the camp portion of the two-day recruiting event. Prospects without a scholarship offer will work out for the Virginia Tech coaches to try to earn one. Meanwhile, Beamer Co. will try to leave a good impression on those prospects who they have already offered. Alex will be on-hand to cover the event.
There was a ton of juice on Twitter from those prospects in attendance yesterday, a recap is below.
Speedy wide receiver Grant Holloway and teammate Patrick Jones (defensive end target) showed up. Alex wrote a feature on the duo in June.

2017 quarterback Shon Mitchell was in town, and plans to throw for the coaches today.

2016 DE / OLB was on campus. Miller told Alex Koma last week his plan is to commit at the end of July. He's a lengthy, athletic, prospect that can dunk a basketball.

2017 Union, NJ defensive end Mike Tverdov was in Blacksburg yesterday afternoon. He does not have a Hokies offer as of yet.

2017 linebacker / athlete Dylan Rivers of Stephens City, VA (Sherando) made another visit to Virginia Tech today. He also visited for a junior day in February. He's rated as 4-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite.
Amazing visit at VT today! @coachfostervt— Dylan Rivers (@dylan_rivers) July 25, 2015
2016 defensive back Keyvone Bruton already has a Virginia Tech offer. He was offered in March of 2014, but plans to workout for the coaches tomorrow. Bruton played safety last season, but plans to play corner this year at Lake Taylor.
arriving in Blacksburg & I'm working out Sunday, no games, no fun, im going to disappoint a lot of WRs. #BruteDog #virginiatech #ColtBoyz— ThePolice (@NewYorkdatruth) July 25, 2015
2017 Highland Springs corner Justice Mayo does not currently have a Virginia Tech offer, and he will be in attendance for camp.
VT tomorrow, can't wait until I arrive in Blacksburg..— #FF (@JMayo_1) July 26, 2015
2016 Ocean Lakes outside linebacker Tre Hubbard does not currently have a Virginia Tech offer, and he will be in attendance for camp.

Hubbard's Ocean Lakes teammates, and 2017 4-star prospects (247Sports Composite) WR Tahj Capehart and 2017 DT Eric Crosby are in Blacksburg.

2016 Virginia Tech QB commit Josh Jackson did some of his own recruiting of 2016 WR Dredrick Snelson Jr.
Follow back bro @D_Snelson2 gotta get you to VT— Josh Jackson (@joshiejack17) July 26, 2015
This is what Snelson told Alex last week.
"If I don't make a decision this weekend, I'd consider waiting a while," Snelson said. "It kind of depends on the Hokies."
Dredrick did enjoy his visit to Tech.

2017 Capital High School (Charleston, WV) linebacker Dorian Etheridge plans to be at camp today. He holds a Hokies offer. Rivals rates him as a 3-star prospect and No. 3 recruit in West Virginia.

Torrian Gray seemingly wowed 2017 4-star prospect (247Sports Composite) LeAnthony Williams Jr. (Roswell, GA) and his father.

More parental approval: Ricky Slade Sr., father of Ricky Slade Jr. noted Team Slade will have to make it back to Blacksburg for a game.
Can't wait to get to a game!! https://t.co/yYNLVqzWoL— Ricky Slade Sr (@Team_Slade) July 25, 2015
The younger Slade is a 2018 running back and has already has a bevvy of scholarship offers from the who's who of college football programs. The C. D. Hylton (Woodbridge, VA) prospect visited with teammate, and 2017 TE Jarrett Powell who as of yet does not have a Tech offer.

Stud NJ tight end Jovani Haskins made it down to Blacksburg as well.

Excellent write-up Joe.
Several names I'm going to have to look up, including Ricky Slade.
Looks like Beamer & Co. knows how to throw a BBQ. Feeling really good about our chances with several of these guys. They have seen the VT way and if they come here they will have a great collegiate experience with their new family.
Great post, it's almost like I was there.
Need some Dade and Broward kids. Can NEVER compete nationally without.....
Also, just watched Fredrick's hudl video, kids got some wheels holy cow!
Joe with the slap down info! Thanks, Joe!
So I am fully expecting him to commit this weekend.
Joe you and Alex have done an awesome job with the coverage of this recruit event.
a lot of Jersey kids in that mix...would be great to beat out Rutgers regularly for the Garden State's best
Implying Rutgers even pulls the best recruits from its own state
It seems Penn State and Coach Franklin are now usually the ones to beat out for top talent in Jersey. VT needs to continue to get its foot in the door too.
Also Ohio State.
I am hoping for at least a couple more recruits today, hoping for Snelson and Dickerson.
Don't get your hopes up about Dickerson. He was at Auburn yesterday, don't think he's coming today unless it is a surprise. He visited earlier in the week though.
He told the coaches he'd be here this week and was planning on coming this weekend. Since he couldn't make it this weekend, he decided to visit earlier in the week instead. That one's gonna go on for a while.
Joe are most of the established players with offers staying around for today? Or is today mostly for unoffered players and only a few players with offers sticking around? How likely is it we see any more commits today?
Tell me more about this BBQ. What was on the menu? Does Frank have a secret pulled pork recipe? What were the sides? Call up all your sources, we need to know!
Sources or sauces? /s
Most I've heard is that it was "impressive."
Great report. Thanks for keeping us posted with details!
DId they do the Beamer BBQ right outside the Beamer Barn? No wonder everyone loved it.
Being a 4-star, I believe Dylan Rivers is the highest regarded prospect out of Sherando since Kelley Washington. Seems like the north part of the valley is usually kind of ignored, so the kid must be pretty good if he's gotten this sort of attention.
Constantly refreshing waiting to see a tweet from Snelson saying that he is a Hokie, haha.
Awesome stuff. The coaching staff is doing a good job recruiting. Hopefully there's more good news from recruits after the camp.
Great report!
But how many stars was the BBQ?! Was Sweet Baby Rays involved? And the sides?
While sweet baby rays is good for a last minute option or at the firehouse if they used it for an event like this I would be ashamed.
Sorry guy, I just named off a random sauce. I don't know anything about bbq for I am just an automaton with a Windows Vista operating system programmed for acting
Awesome tweet from the staff.
Awful quiet after yesterday's excitement. Any rumors?
Not sure we'll see any more commits today, but guys are having a great time and things might be getting interesting in the 757.
Yes they are!!!!!! Good things are coming!
#sauces
I vote this replaces the official "#sources" line for #sources.
That was like a kid's visit to a candy store for me. I saw several players I'd like to add to our recruiting bag. Never gonna get them all, but I do like the buzz Beamer's BBQ generated. While I am concerned about the sauce, I'm thinking those kids are too young to be totally opinionated about it like most of us older folk are, so I'll give Frank the benefit of the doubt on that one.
I've discovered that mission BBQ catered the event, http://mission-bbq.com
So no secret sources or coaches on the grill.
what, no Due South?
Due South is amazing, but Mission is definitely quite delicious.
did they break out the t shirts?
Where is Mission?
Accomplished
I notice that under pulled pork it says "traditional or NC style." Ladies and gentlemen, we have a problem here.
You bet, as far as I'm concerned there is only one traditional BBQ and that IS NC style.
Honestly, being from NC, if I were a recruit, that alone would be enough to eliminate Tech from consideration.
Just wrong in so many ways.
At this point, it looks like Tino will pick the Twerps on Friday and Patterson will pick Tech on Saturday. I think that once the staff figured that Tino was likely heading to College Park, they went harder after Patterson.
I'm hoping Ellis blows everyone's mind and picks Virginia Tech, but I welcome Patterson as well.
"Love the one you're with" is my motto. If they don't love us, screw 'em.
pretty sure you can get arrested for that kind of attitude
Can I make an FSU joke or does that cross a line? :/
